Daniel Brunson

Daniel Lemonte “Danny”Brunson, 22, 210 Partee St., died Thursday at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Rowan Funeral Service is in charge.

 

Robert Lee Hailey

Robert Lee Hailey, 81, 3365 E. Ridge Road, died Wednesday (May 30, 2001) at Brian Nursing Center in Salisbury after a one-week illness.

Born July 5, 1919, in Rowan County, Mr. Hailey was the son of the late Claude and Daisy Green Hailey. A retired security guard, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former member of Yadkin Grove Baptist Church. He was a graduate of J.C. Price High School and Livingstone College.

Survivors include several cousins and an aunt.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. David Bracken, pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church, East Spencer. Burial, Salisbury National Cemetery. Military rites by Salisbury–Rowan Veterans Council.

Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of cousin Idella Watkins at 3565 E. Ridge Road, Spencer Forest community, with whom he made his home.

 

Alfred D. Hodge

LEXINGTON— Alfred Donald Hodge, 77, died Friday at Magnolia Gardens in Spencer.

Services: Memorial services, 7 p.m. Monday, Davidson Funeral Home, and 11 a.m. Wednesday, Fishersville Baptist Church, Fishersville, Va. Private burial, Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro, Va.

Visitation: Following each service.

Mary Nell Kelley

KANNAPOLIS — Mary Nell Holland Kelley, 98, formerly of Kannapolis, died Friday (June 1, 2001) at Carolina Meadows Health Center in Chapel Hill.

Born Sept. 11, 1902, in Holland, Va., Mrs. Kelley was the daughter of the late Elisha Thomas and Annie Lee Holland. A 1923 graduate of Elon College, she taught junior high school in Kannapolis for 16 years.

She was a charter member of Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis, where she was a former president of the Women of the Church. She was a former member of the Kannapolis Garden Club and the Kannapolis Book Club.

Her husband, Aubrey Walsh Kelley, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Shirley Bear, Oak Ridge; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Larry Pittman and the Rev. Robert C. Evans III. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2:30–3:30 p.m. Sunday, at the church.

Annie May P. Kinney

BURLINGTON — Annie May Patterson Kinney, 97, 611 Trail Three, formerly of Rowan County, died Friday (June 1, 2001) at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a two-month illness.

Mrs. Kinney was the daughter of the late William and Julia Patterson. She was a retired teacher with more than 40 years of experience in Iredell, Rowan and Alamance counties. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Burlington, where she was active with the Lutheran Church Women. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association.

Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Mae Kinney, Harrisburg; two sons, the Rev. James William Kinney, Ocean Springs, Miss., and the Rev. George Gladstone Kinney, Fleetwood, Pa.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. W.N. “Bill” Hoss. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6–8 tonight, Rich &Thompson Mortuary.

William E. McPeak

LEXINGTON — William “Bill” Edward McPeak, 75, Lexington, died Thursday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after a six-week illness.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Arrington Heights Freewill Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3074.

Visitation: 6–8 p.m. Saturday, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

 

Joyce Ann Sarratt

KANNAPOLIS — Joyce Ann Sarratt, 64, formerly of Bethpage Road and Big Elm Retirement Center, died Wednesday (May 30, 2001) in Bishopville, S.C., after six months of declining health.

Born March 30, 1937, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Rose Sarratt.

Survivors include sister Betty S. Loveless, Cheraw S.C., with whom she made her home.

Services: 3 p.m. today, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. James Masters. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1–3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

Loyd S. Stokes

LANDIS — Loyd S. Stokes, 78, Landis, died Thursday (May 31, 2001) at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.

Born July 11, 1922, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late William C. and Lila Miller Stokes. Mr. Stokes was a truck driver with Central Motor Lines and Akers Motor Lines. A graduate of Richfield High School, he was a member of Highest Praise Family Worship Center and United Commercial Travelers.

Survivors include wife Rachel Flowers Stokes; daughters Sandra Barrier, Landis, and Shelia Linker, Kannapolis; and sister Eulian Sullivan, Winston-Salem.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Highest Praise Family Worship Center, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Rabon. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation:2–3:30 p.m. Sunday, at the church.

Memorials: Highest Praise Family Worship Center, 1700 Bostian Road, China Grove, NC 28023.
