SALISBURY POST

Marty Shane Atwell has never been charged with misdemeanor child abuse or sought treatment for heroin addiction.

An article in the Post on July 27 incorrectly quoted information about Atwell’s record.

Stephanie Atwell, Marty Atwell’s wife, and officials with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department said that he was the subject of a child abuse complaint, but the allegations were unfounded and no charges were ever filed.

Marty Atwell also sought treatment at a methadone clinic for addiction to prescription pain killers, a condition brought about by injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident, according to his wife. Marty Atwell had never faced any drug-related charges until last week when he and nine others were indicted by a federal grand jury.

The 10 people are charged with illegally selling OxyContin, a prescription painkiller, in North Carolina and three other states.
