O. Grant Bost
LANDIS — The funeral will be Sunday for Otha Grant Bost, 90, formerly of 719 S. Main St.. He died Friday (July 27, 2001) at Concord Place Assisted Living, where he had been a resident for the last three years.
Born Nov. 26, 1910, in Iredell County, he was son of the late Mary Elizabeth Waggoner Bost and John Henry Bost. He was educated in Rowan County schools and retired as a supervisor from Linn-Corriher Mills after 60 years.
Mr. Bost belonged to West A Church of God. His wife, Gertrude Nance Bost, died Dec. 11, 1970.
Survivors include son Bobby Glenn Bost, Landis; daughters Joan Powers, Charlotte, Nancy Barnes, Landis, and Wanda F. Greene, New London; sister Zelma Harrington, Raleigh; eight grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
Services: 3:30 p.m. Sunday, West A Church of God, conducted by the Rev. Sam Crisp and the Rev. Scott Mullis. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation: 2-3:30 p.m., Sunday, West A Church of God. The remainder of the time the family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs Kenny Barnes, 605 E. Ridge Ave.

MOORESVILLE — Frances Teeter Boyd, 87, formerly of Rowan County, died Thursday (July 26, 2001) at Huntersville Oaks.

KANNAPOLIS — Edwin R. Donahue, 84, formerly of 530 Florence Ave., died at 7:50 a.m. Friday (July 27, 2001) at the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Sampson Gunter
Sampson Gunter, 78, formerly of Mocksville, died Friday (July 27, 2001) at the Brian Health and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury after a period of declining health.
Born Feb. 2, 1923, in Mount Holly, he was son of the late Lillie Loretta Thomas Gunter and William Riley Gunter. Mr. Gunter was educated in Rowan County schools and served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
A retired stone cutter, he was of the Baptist faith.
His wife, Cora Ridenhour Gunter, and twin sons, Terry and Jerry Gunter, all preceded him in death.
Mr. Gunter is survived by a son, Steven William Gunter of Mocksville.

Carl Issac Hodge
SPENCER — The funeral will be Sunday for Carl Issac “Pop” Hodge, 85, who died Thursday (July 26, 2001) at Genesis Eldercare, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.
Born Oct. 24, 1915, in Wilkes County, he was son of the late Jeff and Annie Minton Hodge. He was educated in Wilkes County schools and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
Mr. Hodge was a retired stone cutter with Matthews International. He belonged to Morlan Park Church of God, Salisbury.
His wife, Mamie Carlton Hodge, son Clyde Hodge and daughter Betty H. Moretz all preceded him in death.
Survivors include son James Hodge, Salisbury; daughters Rose H. Dunaway, Salisbury, and Ruth H. Lee, Hickory; brother Charlie Hodge, Lenoir; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Mary Magdalene Gallimore Hopkins, 84, Welcome Bethesda Road, died at 9:40 p.m. Thursday (July 26, 2001) at Britthaven of Madison after declining health of 112 years.

Bill Jordan
MOCKSVILLE — Bill Harris Jordan, 77, 41 Marconi St., died Thursday (July 26, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 12, 1923, in Rowan County, he was son of the late Sally L. Harris Jordan and Oscar S. Jordan. He attended Boyden High School in Salisbury.
Mr. Jordan served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a electronic technician third class. He received the Purple Heart.
Later, he worked at the VA Medical Center for 32 years as a nursing assistant before his retirement in June 1995.
Mr. Jordan belonged to Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 3006.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bill Harris Jordan Jr., in 1960.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Anders Jordan, whom he married Nov. 2, 1958; and daughter Melissa Ann Jordan, Mocksville.
Services: graveside, 1 p.m. Monday, U.S. National Cemetery, Government Road location, conducted by the VA chaplain. The Rowan Veterans Council will conduct military rites.

Brenizer A. Lytle
MOORESVILLE — Brenizer A. Lytle, 88, 168 Maple St., died Wednesday (July 25, 2001) at Davis Hospital in Statesville.

Byron ‘Gene’ Moore
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Sunday for Byron Eugene “Gene” Moore, 54, 8201 Smith Road, who died Thursday (July 26, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born July 20, 1947, in Ruby, S.C., he was son of the late Parnell Wilson Moore and Ethel Johnson Moore.
Mr. Moore graduated from A.L. Brown High in 1967 and attended Biscayne College and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
For 19 years, he worked for Cannon Mills Plant No. 1’s machine shop before being employed with Duke Power Co. at Lark Maintenance Center, Mount Holly, for 15 years as a machinist/technician.
Mr. Moore belonged to West Point Baptist Church and the Hickory Flat Hunt Club.
He is a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam conflict in 1969.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Kathy Hickman Moore; daughters Deanna Brooks and Melissa Graham, both of Kannapolis; sister Terry Fisher, Kannapolis; four grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, West Point Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Greg Barefoot. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park. Military rites will be conducted by the DAV Chapter 27.

Rufus A. Morris
MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be Monday for Rufus Allen Morris, 74, formerly of Godbey Road, who died Thursday (July 26, 2001) at Autumn Care, where he had been a resident for two months.
Born April 18, 1927, in Rowan County, he was son of the late Ollie Almond and William David Morris.
A veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Marines, Morris drove for Glosson Motor Lines. He also had worked for Shaw Motor Lines and as an attendant at the Center Mobil Station. He volunteered for Davie County Meals on Wheels.
His wife, Margie Groce Morris, preceded him in death.
Survivors include son David Morris of Indiana; daughter Pam Tennerson, Salisbury; brothers Gonnie, Paul and Winslow Morris, all of Salisbury; sister Johnsie Cook, Gold Hill.
Services: graveside, 11 a.m. Monday, new National Cemetery, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. George Troyer`. Military rites will be conducted by the Rowan Veterans Council.
