Gary Beaver files for Landis board

BY JESSIE BURCHETTE
SALISBURY POST

LANDIS — Gary Beaver, the current mayor pro tem, has filed for re-election to the Board of Aldermen.

Beaver, 63, filed Wednesday with the Rowan County Board of Elections. He is the third candidate to file for the four seats available on the Landis board.

The Landis native is retired from General Motors and currently owns and operates Beaver Concessions.

The top vote-getter among candidates for alderman in the last two elections, Beaver has been selected mayor pro tem, making him the town’s second highest elected official.

Beaver vowed to continue to work to keep Landis taxes low while providing needed, adequate services.

He pointed to the need for an in-depth study of the town’s water distribution system and future water needs.

“Landis water lines are not adequate for proper fire protection and must be replaced,” said Beaver. He said many areas of the town do not have the water pressure necessary for fire protection.

Beaver said he has serious concerns about the town’s overall water supply and the potential cost of buying water from Salisbury.

A resident of 209 W. Round St., he is a graduate of Landis High School. He attended Rowan Tech and Florida Professional Academy.

He is a member of the Landis Senior Citizens Group and Eureka Masonic Lodge.

Tony Corriher and incumbent Craig Sloop previously filed for alderman, and Mayor Fred Steen is seeking re-election.
