Two file for Rockwell board

BY JOANIE MORRIS
SALISBURY POST

ROCKWELL— Incumbent Alderman Terry Beaver and newcomer Clifford Josey have joined the race for five seats on the Rockwell Board of Aldermen.

There are five aldermen’s seats on the town board that need to be filled, and the mayor’s seat.

Terry Beaver feels like there is still a lot to do in Rockwell, so he filed Monday to run for a second term on the board.

Beaver, 38, of 365 Palmer Circle, is the owner of East Rowan Cafe.

A graduate of East Rowan High School, Beaver is a member of Keller Memorial Lodge, the Oasis Shrine and the Rockwell Fire Department. He is affiliated with First Baptist Church in Rockwell.

During his first term, Beaver served on the Public Safety and Public Works committees.

This term, Beaver would like to see the Police Department progress at a steady pace without thinning taxpayers’ wallets too much.

He also said that he hopes to see sidewalk projects finished in the future.

Clifford Paul Josey, 74, 210 Winecoff Street, is the newcomer who filed Tuesday for alderman.

Retired from construction, Josey feels that he can best help the town of Rockwell with cleanup. He said that in general, he feels the streets need cleaning up the most.

Also, Josey said he’d like to work with the senior citizens in the area, getting them more involved in the community.

Josey grew up in Faith and served in the Navy during World War II. He lived in Virginia for a while and then moved back to Rockwell.

He is running for office because there is a lot to be done for the town, and “I’ve got plenty of time to put in,” he said.

So far, seven candidates, including three newcomers, have filed for the five aldermen seats in Rockwell. The mayor’s seat also is up for re-lection, but incumbent Mayor Bob Bost has no challengers so far.

The deadline for candidates to file is noon Aug. 3.
