Laura Way Denton

WOODLEAF — Laura Way Denton, 2745 S. River Church Road, died Friday (July 20, 2001) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.

D. Thomas Ford

CHINA GROVE — D. Thomas Ford, 81, Linn Road, died Thursday (July 19, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Carey Lewis Greenlee

BADIN — Carey Ray Lewis Greenlee, 100, 85 Maple St., died Wednesday (July 18, 2001) at Stanly Manor.

Born Nov. 20, 1900, in Newport County, Tenn., Mrs. Greenlee, a daughter of the late John Wesley and Nancy Dennis Lewis, attended King’s College, Charlotte, and Maryville College in Tennessee.

She retired as a clerk from the U.S. Post Office and was a member of Badin United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Saturday, Stony Hill United Methodist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Robert Romanello.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle.

Memorials: Badin United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 746, Badin,NC 28009.

 

Charles W. Hysinger

SPENCER — The funeral will be Saturday for Charles Wilburn Hysinger, 79, 109 N. Rowan Ave., who died Wednesday (July 18, 2001) at his home after four months of declining health.

Born Sept. 6, 1921, in Greenville, Tenn., Mr. Hysinger was a son of the late Will and Bessie Faye Constable Hysinger. He graduated in 1939 from Spencer High School and attended North Carolina State University, Raleigh. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Employed by Southern Railway and Norfolk Southern Railroad for 40 years, he retired in 1982. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Spencer, where he was active in the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class, Christian Men’s Fellowship and the Good Time Club.

Also a member of the Mount Tabor Nutrition Site and Happy Travelers Club at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, he delivered for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342, Spencer Moose Lodge 2019, and McCanless Golf Club.

Survivors include wife Doris Allen Hysinger, whom he married Aug. 5, 1948; daughters Suzanne Hysinger Frey, St. Louis, Mo., and Karen Hysinger Brown, Landis; and four grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Franklin Myers, pastor. The Mount Tabor Nutrition Site and Happy Travelers Club members will be seated as a group. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home on North Rowan Avenue.

Gerald ‘Moe’ Lowder

ALBEMARLE — The funeral was this morning for Gerald James “Moe” Lowder, 73, 321 First Ave., who died Wednesday (July 18, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

Graveside services were held at Salem United Methodist Church cemetery. The family is at the home on First Avenue.

Hartsell Funeral Home was in charge.

Beatrice Click Powe

CLEVELAND — Beatrice Click Powe, 96, formerly of Cleveland, died Wednesday (July 18, 2001) at Village Green Nursing Center, Fayetteville, after a period of declining health.

Born July 4, 1905, in Rowan County, Mrs. Powe was a daughter of the late Milas and Katie Tomlin Click. She graduated from the Rowan County schools, Barber Scotia College, Concord and Livingstone College.

A retired elementary school teacher, she taught in the Rowan County schools. She was a member of Third Creek AME Zion Church and was involved with various church, civic and community organizations.

Her husband, the Rev. T.M. Powe, presiding elder, died in 1988.

Survivors include son Thomas W. Powe Jr., Stone Mountain,Ga.; daughters Edith Fleming, Seat Pleasant, Md., Valeria Fleming, Fayetteville, and Wanda Burns, Charlotte; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday,Third Creek AME Zion Church, conducted by the Rev. Donnie Kent. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Timothy Paul Stitt

GOLD HILL — Timothy Paul Stitt, 80-day-old son of Paul Orion and Lenor Christine McBride Stitt, Gold Hill, died Tuesday (July 17, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

The infant was born April 28, 2001, in Cabarrus County.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include sister Tiffani Nicole Stitt, of the home; grandparents David and Vicky Stitt, Rockwell, and Bruce and Linda McBride, Concord; and great-grandparents Alice Mae Stitt and Paul James Simpson, both of Rockwell, Lucille McBride,Augusta, Ga., and Frances Yow, Kannapolis.

The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, is in charge.

 

Victor Mott Whitley

KANNAPOLIS — Victor Mott Whitley, 89, formerly of 1603 Lane St., died Thursday (July 19, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after 2 12 months of declining health.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.
