Hugh Wilson Baucom

POLKTON — Hugh Wilson Baucom, 75, Rocky Mount Church Road, died Tuesday (July 17, 2001) at First Health. He retired as a fixer from Albemarle Spinning, Albemarle.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. Burial, Barbee’s Grove Baptist Church cemetery, Oakboro.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of son Wilson Baucom, 727 Livingston Point, Mount Gilead.

 

Brevard H. Day

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Brevard Hamilton Day, 79, formerly of Coventry Road, who died Tuesday (July 17, 2001) at Transitional Health Services after five years of declining health.

Born May 9, 1922, in CaldwellCounty, Mr.Day was a son of the late Thomas Hamilton and Lilla McNeely Day. He was a graduate of Mars Hill College and received a degree in engineering from North Carolina State University.

His career began at Peden Steel, Raleigh, where he was head of the engineering department for 36 years. He took early retirement in 1981.Later he moved to Kannapolis, where he managed Wesco Signs Inc., for many years until he retired for health reasons.

During World War II, Mr. Day served in the U.S. Army Infantry Division. He was part of the Normandy Invasion and served in Europe until the end of the war. He met his wife, the the former Beryl Hembery, while in England recovering from injuries. She died July 15, 1996.

Mr. Day was a former member of Kannapolis Rotary Club and was a member of First Baptist Church of Kannapolis.

Survivors include brothers Dr. Troy L. Day, Kannapolis, Grady K. Day, Raleigh, and Garva T. Day, Morganton; and sisters Kathleen Hoyle, Hickory, Willadean Rector, Drexel, Reba Huffman, Birmingham, Ala., and Caroleen Rector,Winston-Salem.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tom Cabaniss.Entombment, Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum. Military rites by DAVChapter 27.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Dr. Troy L.Day, 1620 Eastwood Drive.

Memorials: First Baptist Church, 101 N. Main St., Kannapolis, NC 28081.

 

Lee Roy Redwine Jr.

The funeral will be Friday for Lee Roy Redwine Jr., 60, 5865 Bertie Ave., who died Tuesday (July 17, 2001) at Rowan RegionalMedical Center.

Born Oct. 26, 1940, in Rowan County, Mr. Redwine, a son of the late Lee Roy and Elizabeth FurrRedwine, was educated in the Rowan County schools. He served with the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War and was a former member of Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post.

Retired, he was formerly employed at the Rowan County Vocational Workshop. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include wife Gaynelle Waller Redwine; daughters Debbie R. Grissom and Wendy R. Gardner, both of Salisbury; sister Barbara Kincaid,Salisbury; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Wilkes. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park,Salisbury. Military rites by Rowan Veterans Council.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
