Christine H. Brown

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Sunday for Christine Hendrick “Mother Brown” Brown, 68, 548 S. Little Texas Road, who died Wednesday (July 11, 201)at her home after four months of serious illness.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, New Piney Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tracey Caldwell and the Rev. Isaac Pettis. Burial, 10 a.m. Monday, National Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-8 p.m. Saturday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury.

 

Suma Walker Childers

MOORESVILLE — Suma Walker Childers, 84, 6580 Hwy. 152 W., died Thursday (July 12, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, is in charge.

 

Raymond E. Childress

KANNAPOLIS — Raymond Elmore Childress, 80, 409 N. East Ave., died Friday (July 13, 2001)at his home.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Magarete H. Clark

Magarete H.Clark, 86, Salisbury, died Friday (July 13, 2001) at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

James Fredrick Eaton

James Fredrick Eaton, 43, Cocoa, Fla., died Tuesday (July 10, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Feb. 16, 1958, in Detroit, Mich., Mr. Eaton, a son of the late Marvin and Ruth Scherhorn Eaton, was educated in the Florida schools. A Baptist, he was a commercial and residential roofer.

Survivors include son Jimmy Smith, Titusville, Fla.; daughter Jeannie Smith, Titusville, Fla.; brothers Doug and Robert Eaton, both of Cocoa, Fla., and John Eaton,Rockwell; sisters Joann Mungall and June Kimbale, both of Westmorland, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Cocoa, Fla.

Frank R. Gibson

KANNAPOLIS — Frank Richardson Gibson 81, East 31st St., died Thursday (July 12, 2001) at Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury, after two weeks of serious illness.

Born July 12, 1920, in Rowan County, Mr. Gibson, a son of the late Albria and Beulah Sherrill Gibson, was a graduate of J.C.Price High School, Salisbury. He retired from Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

A member of Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church, Landis, and Bennett L. Johnson American Legion Post 413, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

His wife, Mary Ella Gibson, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sister Effie G. Wright, Claireton,Pa.

Services:1:30 p.m. Saturday,Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Smith. Burial, church cemetery. Military rites by Salisbury Rowan Veterans Council.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of a niece, Bettye N. Russell, 307 Airport Road, Kannapolis.

Maria B. Mashold

WOODLEAF — Maria Brenner Mashold, 80, Geigelsteinstr 6, Rosenheim, Germany, died Thursday (July 12, 2001) at the home of her daughter, Eva M. Snider of Woodleaf.

Born Jan. 18, 1921, in Alt-Futok, Yugoslavia, Mrs. Mashold was a daughter of the late Franz and Apolonia Dillinger Brenner. She was educated in the Alt-Futok, Yugoslavia, schools.

A homemaker, she was a member of Furstatt Catholic Church, Rosenheim,Germany.

Her husband, Stefan Mashold, died Aug. 29, 1979.

Survivors, in addition to her daughter, include two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Carroll Robinson, pastor, Lebanon Lutheran Church. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: The family will be at her daughter’s home in Woodleaf.

Memorials: Rowan Regional Home Health and Hospice, 825-A W. Henderson St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

 

Lovie Lea Presnell

CLEMMONS — Lovie Lea Presnell, 60, 6010 Meadowbrook Mall Court, sister of Larry Presnell, Mocksville, died Wednesday (July 11, 2001) at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living.

Services: 2 today, Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, Boone. Burial, Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Garden.

Memorials: Alzheimer’s Association, Western North Carolina Chapter, 3 Louisiana Ave., Asheville, NC 28806.

 

Tommy Upright

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Saturday for Tommy Lee Upright, 45, 10855 U.S. Hwy. 52, who died Wednesday (July 11, 2001) at his home.

Born July 14, 1955, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Upright was a son of Abbie Rice Upright, Rockwell, and the late Ray Daniel Upright. He was a painter.

His wife, Jacqueline Upright, preceded him in death.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include daughters Tera Rattz and Erin Upright, both of Rockwell; sisters Shelia Allen,Granite Quarry, Debbie Fesperman,Salisbury, Linda Martin, Faith, and Barbara Crain and Lisa Ijames, both of Rockwell; brothers Daniel, Michael and Doug Upright, all of Rockwell; maternal grandmother Viola Rice, Mount Pleasant; and four grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Upright. Entombment, West Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Highway 52.

Christopher C. Wayne

DAVIDSON — The funeral will be Saturday for Christopher Columbus Wayne, 77, 8801 Columbus St., who died Thursday (July 12, 2001) at his home after three years of declining health.

Born Aug. 27, 1923, in Wilkes County, Mr. Wayne, a son of the late Jessie Everette and Martha Sheets Wayne, attended Sharon Baptist Church, Concord. He retired after 15 years from Cannon Mills plant 1, where he worked in the overhaul shop.

Survivors include wife Bessie Sturgill Wayne; sons Michael L. and Timothy C. Wayne, both of Davidson; brother Claude Wayne, Davidson; sisters Zada Brooks and Beulah Sheets, both of Kannapolis, and Adrin Patrick, Lincolnton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday,Sharon Baptist Church, Concord, conducted by the Rev. Jason Pierce and the Rev. James Smith. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Graveside, 4 p.m. Saturday, Sheets Cemetery, Laurel Springs.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home on Columbus Street.
