Helen Nelson Brandt
SPENCER — The funeral will be
Saturday for Helen Nelson Brandt, 92, Spencer, who died Tuesday (July 10, 2001)
at Western Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, after a short illness.
Born June 16, 1909, in Fries,
Va., Mrs. Brandt, a daughter of the late William E. and Minnie Fulton Nelson,
was a graduate of Martinsville, Va., High School. She was a homemaker.
A member of Spencer Presbyterian
Church, she was active in the Presbyterian Women, the Adult Sunday School Class
and the Sarah Circle and was a youth group advisor. She was a member of Spencer
High School PTA, Spencer Garden Club and was a charter member of Spencer
Woman’s Club, where she served on the youth committee.
Her husband, John Addison Brandt,
died April 14, 1974. A son, Donald Frank Brandt, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons Charles F.
Brandt, Mason, Ohio, and Thomas E. Brandt, Spencer; daughters Faye Jacobs,
Charlotte, and Elizabeth Earnhardt, Raleigh; 10 grandchildren; 22
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday,
Spencer Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Ruth Lenger. Burial,Rowan
Memorial Park, Salisbury.
Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Friday,

Christine H. Brown
KANNAPOLIS — Christine
“Mother Brown” Hendrick Brown, 68, 548 S. Little Texas Road, died Wednesday
(July 11, 2001) at her home after four months of serious illness.
Born June 8, 1933, in Cabarrus
County, Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late Lacey and Rosie Hendrick Shaw. She
was educated in the Cabarrus County schools and retired from Cannon Mills.
A member of Community Baptist
Church, Statesville, she was Mother of the Church, missionary president,
president of the kitchen committee, an usher and member of the floral committee.
She was a member of Kannapolis Seniors and a mother of the community.
Her husband, the Rev. James Henry
Brown, died Jan. 1, 1995.
Survivors include sons James
Brown Jr., of the home, and Hamp Brown, Kannapolis; daughters Betty and Wanda K.
Brown, both of Kannapolis, and Annette “Coda” Brown, of the home; brother
William “Bill” Shaw, Salisbury; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Maude M. Correll
KANNAPOLIS — Fannie Maude
McCombs Correll, 98, 505 Jackson Park Road, died Wednesday (July 11, 2001) at
Best of Care Rest Home after four years of declining health.
Born March 16, 1903, in Rowan
County, Mrs. Correll, a daughter of the late Dorset Monroe and Dora Krimminger
McCombs, was a charter member of St.John’s United Church of Christ. She
retired after 40 years from Cannon Mills Plant 1, sewing room.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Jacob W. Correll, and a son, Jacob William Correll Jr.
Survivors include son Dr. Earl E.
Correll, Kannapolis; sister Lenna McCombs Overcash, Kannapolis; four
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services: 4 p.m. Friday, Lady’s
Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy J. Norred. Entombment, Carolina
Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the
funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Dr. Earl Correll,

Douglas Kuykendall

Douglas “Doug” Fairbanks Kuykendall, 75, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (July
11, 2001) at his home.
Born Aug. 1, 1925, in Rowan
County, Mr.Kuykendall, a son of the late Hal B. and Pearl Gantt Kuykendall, was
educated in the Rowan County schools. In 1987, he retired from Owen-Illinois,
where he worked in the shipping and receiving department. He was a member of
Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Mildred
Lippard Kuykendall, whom he married Dec. 6, 1947; and sister Miriam Deal, Faith.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Faith
Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles R. Brawley. The body will be
placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Timothy R. Pleasants
The funeral will be Saturday for
Timothy Reid Pleasants, 49, 2350 Leonard Road, who died Thursday (July 12, 2001)
at his home.
Born Aug. 11, 1951, Mr. Pleasants
was a son of Robert “Bobby” Reid and Sandra Shumaker Pleasants, Charlotte,
and the late Mary Gail Ballard Pleasants. He was employed by Freightliner.
A member of Parkdale Baptist
Church, he had served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
Survivors include wife Diane
Swanson Pleasants; son Christopher Reid Pleasants, Kannapolis; daughter Monica
Dawn Pleasants,Charlotte; brothers Tony Don Pleasants, Cherryville, and Michael

Lois W. Reznicek
The funeral is today for Lois
Gene Wolf Reznicek, 82, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (July 10, 2001) at Rowan
Regional Medical Center.
Born July 9, 1929, in Chicago,
Ill., Mrs. Reznicek, a daughter of the late Edwin and Geraldine Wynn Wolf, was
educated in the Chicago, Ill., schools. She was a homemaker and a member of
Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Her first husband, Robert Waddick,
died Feb. 9, 1967, and her second husband, William Reznicek, died May 20, 1976.
A son, Steven Reznicek, died Oct. 28, 1996.
Survivors include sons David
Reznicek, Illinois, and Richard, Robert and Jeffrey Reznicek, all of Florida;
daughter Mary Linda Waddick, Salisbury; 19 grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
Services: Memorial mass, 2 today,
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, conducted by the Rev. John T. Putnam.
