Estella Adams Deal
KANNAPOLIS — Estella Lillie Adams Deal, 91,
formerly of Locust Street, died Thursday (July 5, 2001) at Big Elm Retirement
Center.
Born June 3, 1910, in Alexander County, Mrs. Deal
was a daughter of the late John Anderson and Cora Lee Tedder Adams Deal. She had
been employed in the washcloth department at Cannon Mills and as a nursing
assistant at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital. She taught Sunday school at North
Kannapolis Wesleyan Church, where she was a member.
Survivors include daughters Annie Elledge, China
Grove, Mary Cavin, Kannapolis, and Beatrice Price, Winston-Salem; brother Bill
Adams, Texas; sisters Ruby Foster, Kannapolis, and Lacy Davis, Landis; eight
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral
Home, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Edwin Luther. Burial, Carolina Memorial
Park.
Visitation: 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral
home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Annie Elledge,
2370 Cannon Farm Road, China Grove.

Bunyon Odell Dean
KANNAPOLIS — Bunyon Odell Dean, 81, 300 Eastway
Ave., died Friday (July 6, 2001) at Big Elm Retirement Center.
Born Dec. 20, 1919, in Pickens County, S.C., Mr.
Dean was a son of the late Birt Paul and Sarah Katherine Ellis Dean. A U.S. Army
veteran, he had retired after 20 years of service.
He then worked in the bleachery at Cannon Mills,
Plant 1, until retiring. He was a member of Poston Perkins VFW Post 8989 and a
lifetime member of Beaver Pittman American Legion Post 115.
His wife, Alice Hayes Dean, died Nov. 10, 1996.
Survivors include son Gerald Whitman, Heidelberg,
Germany; stepdaughters Wileen E. Rettinger, Asheboro, and Edna Aileen Maddocks,
Melbourne, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services:2 p.m. Sunday, Mount Zion First Freewill
Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Joe Rahme. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery, with
military rites conducted by DAV Chapter 27 of Concord.
Visitation:7-9 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home. At
other times the family will be at the residence.
Guy Leonard Deal
CHINA GROVE — Guy Leonard Deal, 90, 350 Saw
Road, died Thursday (July 5, 2001), at his home.
Born Oct. 13, 1910, in Rowan County, Mr. Deal was
a son of the late Leroy and Essie Corriher Deal. Educated in the Rowan County
schools, he was a retired farmer. He was a member of the original board of
directors for Atwell Fire Department and the Farm Bureau. Mr. Deal was also a
member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.
His wife, Virginia Rufty Deal, died Feb. 29,
1946.
Survivors include son Oscho Deal, China Grove;
and three grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, St. Paul’s United
Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Paul Pickler. Burial, Greenlawn
Cemetery.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt
Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

Barbara Finney
GASTONIA — Barbara McDowell Finney, 65,
Terrell, Texas, died Tuesday (July 3, 2001), at Gaston Memorial Hospital. She
was formerly of Rockwell.
Born in Forsyth County, Mrs. Finney was a
daughter of the late Fred and Etta Mae Whitt McDowell. She had retired from
Philip Morris Tobacco Co.
Survivors include daughters Michelle Crouch,
Texas, and Susan Joyce, Walnut Cove; sons Michael Finney, Belmont, and Warren
White, King; sisters Mary Hawkins, Omaha, Neb., and Betty Goins and Catherine
Forbes, both of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday at McLean
Funeral Directors. Burial will be private.
Marie Hamilton Hosch
Marie Hamilton Hosch, 52, 1110 Bryce Ave., died
Friday (July 6, 2001) at her home. She had been seriously ill for seven months.
Born Oct. 13, 1948, in Rowan County, Mrs. Hosch
was a daughter of the late Charles and Eva Hamilton Black. She attended Dunbar
High School in East Spencer. A homemaker, she was a member of Henderson Grove
Baptist Church and Boxwood Baptist Church in Mocksville.
Survivors include husband Rufus Hosch; sons
Darryl Charles Hamilton, Fort Bragg, and Ronnie Morton Hamilton, Calvin Wayne
Hosch and Kenneth Donnell Hosch, all of Salisbury; brother Curtis Ray Black,
Salisbury; and 15 grandchildren.
