John David Canady

LEXINTON — John D. Canady, 72, of Old Mountain Road, died Tuesday (July 3, 2001) at the home of his daughter, Becky Crotts, on Young Road.

Services: 4 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel, led by the Rev. Billy Joe Leonard. Burial at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the home of daughter Martha Shaw at 7254 Highway 8.

Randy Hamilton

Randall Eugene “Randy” Hamilton, 48, of Salisbury, died Monday (July 2, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 3, 1952 in Salisbury, he is the son of the Peggy Lookabill Hamilton and the late Thomas W. Hamilton.

Mr. Hamilton graduated from North Rowan High School class of 1971. He attended Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Forsyth Technical College and graduated from Mitchell College in Statesville.

He was employed by Norandal, USA for 19 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a charter member of Franklin Baptist Church and former member of the World Karting Association.

Survivors include wife Patricia Moseley “Patti” Hamilton; sons, Adam Jordan Hamilton who is stationed in Key West, Fla., and Luke Randall Hamilton of Wilmington; and brother Tony Dean Hamilton of Blacksburg, SC.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Franklin Baptist Church, led by the Rev. Gary Hoffman, minister of Baptist Church in Norwood, and the Rev. Andrea Redard, of First United Methodist Church of Landis.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Summersett Funeral Home and other times at the home of his mother.

Steve Ingram

MOORESVILLE — Willie Steve Ingram, 51, of 106 Stratus Lane, died Tuesday (July 3, 2001) after a battle with cancer.

Survivors include brother James Ingram of Kannapolis.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis, led by the Rev. Jerry Woolery. Burial at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Margaret Ann Koerber

ALBEMARLE — Margaret Ann Gaiser Mason Koerber, 75, of 32256 NC Highway 24-27, Lot 1, died Tuesday (July 3, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Stanly Memorial Chapel, led by the Rev. David Rollins. Entombment in the Stanly Gardens Chapel of Memories.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

 

Martha Mills

KANNAPOLIS — Martha Lettie Tice Mills, 81, of Brian Center, formerly of Marie Avenue, died Tuesday (July 3, 2001) at the Brian Center.

Born Sept. 3, 1919, in Union County to the late Oscar P. and Mary Rogers Tice, she was a member of the High Ridge Primitive Baptist Church in Marshville.

Survivors include daughters Ella Louise Mills and Martha Helen Mills, both of Kannapolis, and Ruby Mason of Tampa, Fla.; son, David Clarence Mills of Kannapolis; brother Rogers Tice of Monroe and three grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, led by the Rev. Elder Richard Almond. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

 

Nancy Jane Morgan

KANNAPOLIS — Nancy Jane F. Morgan, 96, of 1011 Rosemary Ave., died Tuesday (July 3, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born Feb. 21, 1905, in Faith, she was the daughter of the late William Monroe Foil and Ella Jeanetta Hodge Foil. She was retired from the sewing room of Cannon Mills Plant One.

Mrs. Morgan was a member of East Corinth Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school, was a member of the choir and served as a substitute pianist. She was a former member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Coy Lee Morgan, who died in 1985; and two daughters, Jeanette Chastain and Thelma Lucille Morgan.

Survivors include daughters, Faye M. Oliver of Kannapolis, Phyllis M. Dunlap of Eden, Nancy M. Wilcox of North Agusta, SC; sons, Charlie Morgan of Kannapolis and James Morgan of Salisbury; sister Alma F. Overcash of Manor House in Concord and formerly of Kannapolis; brothers Floyd Foil of Rockwell and Frank Foil of Kannapolis; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at East Corinth Baptist Church in Gold Hill, led by the Rev. Johnny Daniels. Burial at church cemetery.

Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight at Lady’s Funeral home.

Spencer G. Overcash

MOORESVILLE — Spencer Grey Overcash, 79, Mooresville, died Monday (July 2, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Services: 2 p.m., Thursday, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8 p.m. tonight, at the funeral home.

Harold A. Sides

THOMASVILLE — Harold Alexander Sides, 67, 109 Arthur Drive, died Monday (July 2, 2001) at his home.

Born May 23, 1934, in Rowan County, Mr. Sides was a son of the late Charles Emerson and Pearl Kluttz Sides. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Seabees and the Naval Reserve.

Mr. Sides was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Albert Roofing Co., where he worked for 42 years.

Son Rusty Sides preceded him in death.

Survivors include son Andy Sides, Wilmington; daughters Connie Birse, Seattle, Wash., and Karen Parham, Thomasville; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Prospect United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Karl Kelly and the Rev. Ardis Payne. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

Stanley Upright

CHINA GROVE — Stanley Richard Upright, 70, of 108 East Liberty St., died at his home Tuesday (July 3, 2001). Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Gladys J. Williams

COOLEEMEE — Gladys Juanita Williams Williams, 89, formerly of Watts Street, died Monday (July 2, 2001) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.

Born Nov. 28, 1911, in Davie County, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Wesley and Julia Baker Williams. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Cooleemee Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey F. Williams, in 1984; a daughter, Margie Allen; and a son, Tom Williams.

Survivors include sons Marvin F. Williams, Cooleemee, Robert L. Williams, Yadkinville, and James Williams, Lexington; daughters Doris Tise, Cooleemee, Peggy Potts, Mocksville, Alice Crider, Statesville, and Ann Williams, Woodleaf; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m., Thursday, Eaton Funeral Service chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dwight Durham. Burial, Legion Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the funeral home.

Memorials: Cooleemee Church of God, 7692 N.C. Hwy. 801, Cooleemee, NC 27104; or donor’s choice.

 

Ruben Lee Speaks

Ruben Lee Speaks, 81, of 1238 Maxwell St., Salisbury, died Tuesday (July 3, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after declining in health for several weeks.

He was a retired bishop of the AME Zion Church.

Mitchell & Fair Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
