Annie Mazell Angel

Annie Mazell Mauney Angel, 87, Sells Road, died Monday (July 2, 2001) at Genesis Eldercare of Salisbury after a period of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.

Born Aug. 8, 1913, in Rowan County, Mrs. Angel was a daughter of the late Dolphus and Dora Morgan Mauney. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was formerly employed by the Yadkin Hotel, where she worked in the dining room and the banquet facilities. She was a member of West Innes Street Church of Christ.

Her husband, William Alexander Angel, died June 29, 1981.

Survivors include son William A. “Bill” Angel, Woodleaf; daughters Libby Sells, Salisbury, and Patricia Murray, Lancaster, S.C.; sister Rena Leazer, Chattanooga, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m., Thursday, Summersett Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Mike Motley, pastor, Trading Ford Baptist Church, and the Rev. Geoffrey Mabe, pastor, Church of Christ, Knoxville, Tenn. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Memorials: West Innes Street Church of Christ, 2725 W. Innes St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

 

Andrew Angle

Andrew Angle, 59, 930 Locke St., died Tuesday (July 3, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born July 13, 1941, in Cleveland, Mr. Angle was a son of Nola Cowan Angle, Salisbury, and the late Roosevelt Angle. Educated at R.A. Clement High School, he was employed by Jack B. Wooten Trucking Co. for 40 years. He was a former member of Knox Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include son Harvey Everhart, Cleveland; daughter Tamara M. Angle, Statesville; brothers John Angle and David Brown, both of Cleveland, and James Angle and Jeffrey Brown, both of Salisbury; sisters Earline Florence of Mooresville, Ola Mae Deese, Salisbury, and Ann Clement, Cleveland; and one grandchild.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Willie Mae Brown

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Willie Mae Brown, 77, of Cleveland, died on Tuesday (June 26, 2001) at her home.

Born Aug. 2, 1923, in Great Falls, S.C., Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late Emma and Will Graham.

She graduated from Dunbar High School in East Spencer, N.C., in 1941. She later lived in Washington, D.C., and Cleveland, where she worked as a nursing assistant. Mrs. Brown was an active member of Enoree Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.

Survivors include her husband, Dorsey Brown, whom she married in 1946; daughters Pauline Brown Lewis, Deborah Howard, Carolyn Lane, Doreatha Brown and Yvonne Brown; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

H.M. Martin Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

 

Mancie Cheek Cook

COOLEEMEE — Mancie Cheek Cook, 92, formerly of Joyner Street, died Sunday (July 1, 2001) at Brian Health and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury.

Born May 17, 1909, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Cook was a daughter of the late Clingman and Cordova Wood Cheek.

She was a homemaker and a member of the former North Cooleemee Baptist Church.

Her husband, Robert Vironia Cook, died in 1976. Sons Clyde R. and Virgil L. Cook and daughter Gwyndola C. Shoaf also preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons Edward D. Cook, Milton, Fla., and Ray E. and David Cook, both of Salisbury; brother Brady Cheek, Boone; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m., Wednesday, Eaton Funeral Service chapel, conducted by the Rev. George Bradshaw, pastor of Pine Ridge Baptist Church, China Grove. Burial, Legion Memorial Park, Cooleemee.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

 

Alice Oliver Gibbs

Alice Sarah Oliver Gibbs, 81, 538 Lafayette Circle, died Saturday (June 30, 2001) at her home after an extended illness.

Born July 1, 1919, in Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Gibbs was a daughter of the late Lincoln and Anna Josephine Poteat Oliver. She was a homemaker and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and its Spiritual Choir.

Her husband, Thomas Gibbs, died in 1973.

Survivors include sons Thomas, Jesse and Johnny Gibbs, all of Salisbury; daughters Anna Gibbs Graham, Lillie Mae Gibbs Imes, Sarah Alice Gibbs Jackson, Barbara Jean Gibbs Torrence and Mary Gibbs Rhodes, all of Salisbury, and Annie Mae Gibbs Vann, Arlington, Va.; brothers Frank and James Oliver, both of Camden, S.C., and Jesse Oliver, New Haven, Conn.; grandsons raised in the home, Wilbert Torrence Jr, Salisbury, and Bobby Jackson, Sacramento, Calif.; 19 other grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m., Thursday, Gethsemane Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James Stowe, pastor. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m., Thursday, at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of Sarah Jackson, 138 Ridge Ave.

Rowan Funeral Service is in charge.

 

Randall E. Hamilton

Randall Eugene Hamilton, 48, of Salisbury, died Monday (July 2, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Jeffrey Neil Herlocker

NEW LONDON — Jeffrey Neil Herlocker, 22, 20932 Bear Creek Church Road, died Monday (July 2, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.

Born July 22, 1978, in Albemarle, Mr. Herlocker was a son of Terry Lee and Barbara Elaine Stamper Herlocker of the home. He was a mechanic for Trexler Trucking.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by sister Stacy Green, Albemarle; paternal grandparents Harold and Helen Herlocker, both of New London; and maternal grandmother Bessie Stamper, Albemarle.

Services: 11 a.m., Wednesday, Plyler Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Alvin Melton. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. The other times, the family will be at the Bear Creek Church Road home.

 

Henrietta Holman

MOCKSVILLE — Henrietta Holman, 81, 401 N. Main St., died Saturday (June 30, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center after an extended illness.

Born in Rowan County, Mrs. Holman lived most of her life in Mocksville, where she was an active member of St. John’s AME Zion Church.

Her two husbands, Ernest Marsh and Guy Holman, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services were at 11 a.m. today at St. John’s AME Zion Church. Burial, Moores Chapel AME Zion Church cemetery in Rowan County.

Graham Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Theodore R. Yeldell

Theodore R. Yeldell, 319 W. Council St., died Monday (July 2, 2001) at Brightmoor Nursing Center.

Gilmore Funeral Services, Winston-Salem, is in charge.
