Henrietta Holman
MOCKSVILLE — Henrietta Holman, 81, 401 N. Main
St., died Saturday (June 30, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center after an extended
illness.
Born in Rowan County, Mrs. Holman lived most of
her life in Mocksville, where she was an active member of St. John’s AME Zion
Church.
Her two husbands, Ernest Marsh and Guy Holman,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include two grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services were at 11 a.m. today at St. John’s
AME Zion Church. Burial, Moores Chapel AME Zion Church cemetery in Rowan County.
Graham Funeral Home is in charge.
Gladys J. Williams
COOLEEMEE — Gladys Juanita Williams, Cooleemee,
died Monday (July 2, 2001) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.

Garlon Lyons
MOCKSVILLE — Garlon Lyons, 52, 1345 Standish
St., died Friday (June 29, 2001) at his home.
Born in Forsyth County, Mr. Lyons was a son of
Gaston Lyons of Statesville. He last worked for Taylor Clay Products.
In addition to his father, survivors include
brothers Jasper Cuthrell and Nathaniel Lyons, both of Salisbury, David and
Harding Lyons, both of Mocksville, and Richard Lyons, Statesville; sisters
Madgalene, Elizabeth and Annie Mae Lyons, all of Statesville, and Helen Gregory,
Mocksville; and companion Essie Mae Nance, Salisbury.
Services: 2 p.m., Thursday, Graham Funeral Home
chapel, conducted by Elder Norman Gillispie. Burial, Rose Cemetery.
Visitation: 1 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral
home.
Lary Mae Scott
HARRISBURG, Pa. — Lary Mae Trueblood Scott, 79,
605 Seneca St., formerly of Salisbury, died Friday (June 29, 2001) at Camp Hill
Care Center.
Born in Salisbury, N.C., Mrs. Scott was a retired
clerk with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. She
was a member of St. Patrick Cathedral and the Salvation Army.
Survivors include daughter Shelia D. Sullivan,
Harrisburg, Pa.; son William D. Scott, Harrisburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren;
nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were at noon today at Winfield Funeral
Home in Steelton, Pa. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery in Harrisburg.
Lois Foutz Shinn
CHINA GROVE — Lois Foutz Shinn, 86, 199 Upright
Ave, died Saturday (June 30, 2001) at Best of Care Rest Home in Kannapolis.
Born Aug. 11, 1914, in Rowan County, Mrs. Shinn
was the daughter of the late Samuel Newton and Laura Angie Pethel Foutz.
Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and
the Myrtle Karriker Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by son George Newton
Shinn in 1937 and a grandson in 1991.
Survivors include daughters Comeleta Overcash,
Mooresville, Frankie Freeze, China Grove, Barbara Childress, Columbus, Ohio, and
Angie Duberstein, Boynton Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 21
great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m., Tuesday, Concordia Lutheran
Church, conducted by the Rev. Larry Bost. Burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn Honeycutt
Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times, the family will be at the home of
Comeleta Overcash, 3360 Deal Road, Mooresville.

James Weant Jr.
DURHAM— James Alexander Weant Jr., 83, formerly
of East Spencer, died Saturday at Treyburn Rehab.
Born in East Spencer, Mr. Weant was the son of
the late James A. and Carrie Brooks Weant. He served in the U.S. Army during
WorldWar II.
He had been employed as an agent with State
Capital Life and Prudential Life for many years.
A member of American Legion Post 7 for over 60
years, Mr. Weant was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include wife Marcella Kiefer Weant; and
several nieces and nephews.
Services: Memorial, 1 p.m., Tuesday, Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church, conducted by the Rev. Patrick Tuttle.
