Golf notebook: Gealy lights up Wilmington course with 63

SALISBURY POST

Salisbury’s Elliott Gealy had one of the best rounds of his playing career recently during the Michelob Light Classic of Wilmington.

Gealy, playing on the Hooters Tour, finished tied for seventh in the event but shot a third-round 63, which had him second going into the final round. He shot 72 on the fourth day.

His first two rounds were 68-70.

But the third round was a birdiefest for Gealy, whose father, Sam, is the Catawba College golf coach.

The 63 included birdies on four of the first five holes. After knocking in a birdie putt on 13, he did the same on 16, 17 and 18. He also had 10 pars during the round.

Gealy’s money total in 13 events is $22,319 after his $3,650 check in Wilmington. He has 13 starts and has made the cut in 11.

Gealy is playing this week at Bay Tree in Myrtle Beach.
