Gerald Francis Adams

CLEVELAND — The body will be cremated and no services held for Gerald Francis Adams, 62, 15115 Cool Springs Road, who died Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) at Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury.

Born June 5, 1938, in Bemidji, Minn., Mr. Adams, a son of the late Frank and Margaret Scrieveseth Adams, was a graduate of Spokane Community College, Spokane, Wash.

He served in Vietnam during his 10 years with the U.S. Army. A computer programmer for the American Association of Railroads, Washington, D.C., he later moved to Cleveland, where he owned and operated Adams Sharpening Service.

Survivors include wife Betty Higgins Adams; sons Frank Nicholas Adams, of the home, and Ed Dupree Adams, EasternNorth Carolina; daughter Brenda A. Smith, Missouri; and eight grandchildren.

Services: None.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury.

Leatha Cross

LEXINGTON — Leatha Cross, 83, formerly of Hoover Drive, died Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) in Davidson County.

Born May 10, 1917, in Davidson County, Mrs. Cross was a daughter of the late Lenora Dickerson. She was a life member of New Smith Grove Baptist Church, where she was in the Senior Choir and was named Mother of the Church.

She retired as a governess of the State of New York and as a beautician and model.

Her husband, Arvell Cross, preceded her in death.

There are no immediate survivors.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, New Smith Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Shoaf and the Rev. Steve Carlton. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: The body may be viewed from 1-8 today and from 8:30-12 p.m. Thursday at Morrison-Studevent Funeral Home, Lexington.

 

Magenta Stone Donnell

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Thursday for Magenta Stone Donnell, 74, formerly of China Grove, who died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at Reynolda Park Assisted Living, Winston-Salem.

Born April 24, 1926, in Robeson County, Mrs. Donnell was a graduate of Presbyterian Junior College. A retired teacher, she taught at South Rowan High School for 32 years. She was a former member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include husband James Harper Donnell, Welcome, whom she married July 11, 1951; son James Harper III; daughter Candy Donnell; brothers Arnold Stone, Lake Wylie, S.C., and Bob Stone, Harmony; sister Jo Ann Bracey, Fayetteville; and two grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m Thursday, Enterprise Moravian Church, Lexington, conducted by the Rev. Andy Langford and the Rev. Sally Langford, former pastors of First United Methodist Church, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove.

Barbara Morgan McBride

MOCKSVILLE —The funeral will be Thursday for Barbara Jean Morgan McBride, 61, 290 Hartley Road, who died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Oct. 5, 1939, in Salisbury, Mrs. McBride was a daughter of the late Lovelace E. Morgan and Louise Morgan Cranford. She was educated in the Salisbury City schools and graduated from Boyden High School.

Employed with the Bank of Davie, she was also a certified Realtor. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints but had been attending a Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband Franklin Gray McBride; sons Darryl McBride, Mocksville, and Sean McBride, Coats; brothers Wiley G. Morgan, Salisbury, and J.P. Morgan, Concord; stepbrother Jimmy Cranford, Wake Forest; stepsisters Marie Poole, Salisbury, and Earlene Crossett, Faith; and two grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Larry Summey, pastor, Franklin Presbyterian Church, Salisbury. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Donations: Donor’s choice.

 

Eileen Holliday Myers

The funeral will be Saturday for Eileen Bernice Holliday Myers, 96, Salisbury, who died Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born April 12, 1904, in Shunk, Pa., Mrs. Myers, a daughter of the late Albert and Eleanora Rightmire Holliday, was educated in the Shunk, Pa., schools. Retired, she was a nurse at Williamsburg Hospital. She was of the United Methodist faith.

Her husband, Dorsey J. Myers, and a great-granddaughter preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Shirley Smith, Salisbury; brother Charles Holliday, Vero Beach, Fla.; sister Laura Andrus,Williamsport, Pa.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Sanders Mortuary, Williamsport, Pa., conducted by a nephew. Burial, Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery, Pa.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Monroe ‘Slim’ O’Neal

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Monroe “Slim” O’Neal, 65, 519 Spring Garden Ave., who died Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born June 29, 1935, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mr. O’Neal was a son of the late Fuller and Bertha Winburn O’Neal. He retired in 1997 after 25 years with Fieldcrest Cannon Plant 1, machine shop. He had also worked for the former Crowder’s Garage for many years.

An active member of Church of God of the Bible, he served on the church board, as an usher and in various other phases of the church.

Survivors include wife Willie Fay Pigg O’Neal; daughters Diane Johnson, Kannapolis, and Debbie Lott, China Grove; sons Donnie Evans, Kannapolis, and James O’Neal, China Grove; seven sisters; two brothers, seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Furr and the Rev. Clayton Palmer. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Spring Garden Avenue.

Mary Swink Sechler

LANDIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Mary Elizabeth Swink Sechler, 92, Landis, who died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Nov. 11, 1908, in Rowan County, Mrs. Sechler was a daughter of the late John Rufus Swink. She was educated in the Rowan County schools. A homemaker, she was of the Church of God faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Sechler; sons William Marlowe and John Wayne Sechler; and daughter Shirley Ann Sechler Wise.

Survivors include son Jimmy Ray “Casey” Sechler, Landis; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, conducted by the Rev. William Coughlin. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Murell A. Stiller

Murell A. Stiller, 75, Salisbury, died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at his home.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Ellen Uzzell Tysinger

The funeral will be Thursday for Ellen Uzzell Tysinger, 79, Salisbury, who died Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) at the home of daughter Anne T. Corbell of States-ville. She had been in declining health.

Born Feb. 14, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. Tysinger, a daughter of the late Harry Marshall and Geneva Wright Uzzell, was educated in the Rowan County schools and Salisbury Business College.

A retired bookkeeper, she had worked for Carter-Mays Cadillac and earlier worked for Wallace Motor Co. and Kern Roll & Rubber Co. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Murray Franklin Tysinger, died Nov. 25, 1964.

Survivors, in addition to her daughter, include son Murray F. “Butch”Tysinger Jr., Hollister, Calif.; other daughters Marsha T. O’Neal and Nancy T. Turner, both of Durham; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, chapel of St. John’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl R. Sachtleben. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation: 1-1:45 p.m. Thursday in the church library. At other times the family will be at the home of Anne Corbell.
