Lily Gay Williams Honeycutt Brown, 80, 1627 N.
Main St., formerly of Kannapolis, died Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) at her home.
Born Oct. 22, 1920, in Martinsville, Va., Mrs.
Brown was a daughter of the late Nathaniel Williams and Vivian Leona Bishop
Williams. She retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1, sewing department, Kannapolis,
where she had worked for 40 years.
Her first husband,William Everette “Bill”
Honeycutt, died Dec. 5, 1977, and her second husband, Ernest E. Brown, died
Sept. 1, 1997.
Survivors include son James E. Williams, Concord;
sisters Vivian Moses and Ollie Williams, both of Salisbury; and one
granddaughter.
Services: 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Lady’s Funeral
Home chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. James Pauley. Burial, St. Enoch
Lutheran Church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-9 Wednesday at the funeral home. At
other times the family will be at the home on North Main Street.
Robert ‘Ed’ Archer
ALBEMARLE — Robert Edward“Ed” Archer, 74,
1325 Freeman Ave., died Sunday (Jan. 28, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center,
Concord.
Born Dec. 16, 1926, in Stanly County, Mr. Archer
was a son of the late John Vernon “J.V.” and Cannie Springer Archer. He
retired from Dawson Mills and formerly owned and operated Archer’s Barbecue.
He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Truly
Lambert Archer, and second wife, Cannie Shank Archer.
Survivors include son Robert Edward “Bobby”
Archer Jr. and Michael Steven Archer, both of Albemarle; brother Doug Archer,
Albemarle; sister Sarah Caffey, Albemarle; and four grandchildren.

Eva Suffair Barringer
MOUNT PLEASANT — The funeral will be Wednesday
for Eva Suffair Barringer, 96, Mount Pleasant, who died Sunday (Jan. 28, 2001)
at her home after several years of declining health.
Born Dec. 28, 1904, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Barringer was a daughter of the late James Franklin and Nellie Hall Barringer.
She was educated at New Bethel School in Stanly County.
A homemaker, she was a lifelong member of
Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church, Misenheimer.
Her husband, Charlie Marshall Barringer, died
July 27, 1952.
Survivors include daughter Bessie Pauline
Barringer, Mount Pleasant; and sister Sadie Shoe, Gold Hill.

Myrtle Hegler
MOUNT AIRY — Myrtle Louise Pope Hegler, 79,
Allred Mill Road, died Sunday (Jan. 28, 2001) at Northern Hospital of Surry
County.
Born Dec. 3, 1921, in Gaston County, Mrs. Hegler
was a daughter of the late Walter Bradford and Bessie Bell Clark Pope. She was a
homemaker.
She was preceded in death by three grandchildren.

Marion, Barbara Hegler Sechrest and Linda Hegler Helms, all of Lexington; sons
Paul Hegler Jr., Charlotte, and Roger Hegler, Mount Airy; sister Mazel Pope

KANNAPOLIS — Buenna Richardson Horton, 78, 119
Briarcliff Drive, died Sunday (Jan. 28, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center,
Concord.
Born April 2, 1922, in Madison County, Mrs.
Horton was a daughter of the late Floyd Washington and Ora Dell Waldroup Connor.
She was a 1939 graduate of Spring Creek High School and attended Louise Harkey
School of Nursing from 1944-1945.
A member of Calvary Baptist Church, she retired
in 1979 from Cannon Mills Plant 1 No. 7 spinning room.
Her first husband, Thomas J. Richardson, died
March 8, 1964; her second husband, Norman G. Horton, died Oct. 6, 1996; and a
son, Pfc. Harold Reid Richardson, died while serving in the VietnamWar on Feb.
4, 1969.
Survivors include daughters Annette Graham,
Concord, Buenna Lynne Richardson, Salisbury; son Mark C. Richardson, Orange
Park, Fla.; stepchildren Willis W., Marie E. and Audrey L. Horton, all of
Charlotte; sisters Geraldine Hudson, Kannapolis, and Dot Tensley, Rock Hill,
S.C.; brother Floyd W. “Junior” Connor, Concord; four grandchildren; four
stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

CHINA GROVE — Jack Nelson Brown, 61, 2240
Cannon Farm Road, died Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center,
Concord.
Born Dec. 2, 1939, in Rowan County, Mr. Brown, a
son of the late Jack Moore and Julia Turner Brown, was a graduate of A.L. Brown
High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a truck driver for
Consolidated Freightways.
Survivors include wife Ingrid Brand Brown;
daughter Lorraine Childers, Mooresville; son Gerry Brown, Kannapolis; sisters
Martha May, Valle Crucis, and Carol Yarborough, Pensacola, Fla.; brothers Doug

EarlePhelps, 41, Salisbury, who died Friday (Jan. 26, 2001) at Hefner VAMedical
Center.
Born May 25, 1959, in Salisbury, Mr. Phelps was
the son of Cecil H. Phelps and Mary Ruth Pinkston Phelps of Salisbury. He was
educated in the Rowan County schools and was a member of the Church of Christ.
A veteran of the U.S. Army’s 87 Infantry in
Germany, he was a member of DAV and Kennedy Hall American Legion Post 106.
Survivors include his parents.

Cecil Ray Randolph
CHINA GROVE — Private funeral services will be
held for Cecil Ray Randolph, 87, 330 KimballLoop Road, who died Saturday (Jan.
27, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born July 12, 1913, in Parkersburg, W.Va., Mr.
Randolph was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired as a concessionaire in the
carnival business.
His wife, Margaret Arlene Randolph, preceded him
in death.
Survivors include children Becky Lee Randolph and
Ray Gene Randolph, both of China Grove, Richard Edward Randolph, Davie, Fla.,
and Linda L. Shaver, Salisbury; stepdaughter Charlotte Gatlin; five
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Miami,Fla.

MOCKSVILLE — Abner Randolph Steele, 77, 1565
U.S. Hwy. 601 S., died Sunday (Jan. 28, 2001) at his home after a period of
illness.
Born in Davie County, Mr. Steele, a son of the
late Forest McKinley and Blanche Jones Steele, was educated in the Davie and
Rowan County schools. He also attended Elizabeth City University and A&T
State University.
A veteran of World War II, he retired from
Southern Railroad Co., Linwood. He was a member of Mocksville Second
Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include wife Jimmy Lou Tabor Steele;
sons Abner and Jimmy Steele, both of Mocksville; daughter Jane Steele, of the
home; brothers John Q. Steele, Winston-Salem, Carl Steele, Camp Spring, Md., and
Minor Steele, Mocksville; and sisters Ruth Lewis and Sylvia Steele, both of
