Ruby Sedberry Blackwood
MOCKSVILLE —Ruby Sedberry Blackwood, 85, Junction Road, died Wednesday (Jan. 24, 2001) at her home.
Born May 18, 1915, in Davie County, Mrs. Blackwood was a daughter of the late Eugene Kenneth and Ida Brogdon Sedberry. She retired from Burlington Industries, Cooleemee, and from Davie County Hospital, where she was a dietary supervisor.
She was a member of Cooleemee United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Ray Blackwood, died in 1969.
Survivors include son Bob Blackwood, of the home; sister Mildred S. Stallings, Rutherfordton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Friday, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Sandra Martin.

KANNAPOLIS — Gladys L. Brooks, 75, 102 S. Rose Ave., died Wednesday (Jan. 24, 2001) at her home.

Sadie Ellenburg Burkhardt
The funeral will be Friday for Sadie Ellenburg Burkhardt, 75, Maupin Avenue, who died Friday (Jan. 19, 2001) at Brightmoor Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 10, 1925, in Davie County, Mrs. Burkhardt was a daughter of the late Joseph C. and Hester Robertson Ellenburg. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters Vicki Nelson, Salisbury, and Sandra Ambrose, Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services:Graveside, 2 p.m. Friday, Liberty United Methodist Church cemetery, Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Dale Robertson. The body will be cremated.

Maude McKinney Fisher, 93, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Jan. 24, 2001) at Lutheran Nursing Home at Trinity Oaks.

Jan Ellis Purser Herbert
ALBEMARLE — Jan Ellis Purser Herbert, 58, 33420 Old Salisbury Road, died Tuesday (Jan. 23, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 24, 1942, in Stanly County, Mrs. Herbert was a daughter of the late Ellis Miller and Lila Stallings Purser. She was a graduate of Kings Business College, Charlotte.
A secretary, she retired from East Albemarle School. She was a member of New London United Methodist Church.
Known for her arts and crafts ability, she designed a cross stitchery for the Pfeiffer University Falcon mascot now displayed in the lobby of the Pfeiffer gym.
Her husband, Wayne Bradford Herbert, preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Jeffrey Herbert, Albemarle; daughter Lorie Starke, Richfield; sister Carolyn Darlene Burgess, Albemarle; and five grandchildren.
Services: 7 p.m. Friday, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Vaughn.
Visitation: At the funeral home after the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Jeff Herbert, 905 Moss Springs Road.

Luna Kimmer Myers
MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be Friday for Luna Kimmer Myers, 89, U.S. Hwy. 601 S., who died Tuesday (Jan. 23, 2001) at RowanRegional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Dec. 19, 1911, in Davie County, Mrs. Myers, a daughter of the late Charlie and Susie Everhart Kimmer, retired from Erwin Mills after 25 years.
She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, where she was president of the Senior Citizens Sunday School Class for eight years. She was also a member of Cooleemee Senior Citizens Club for 24 years.
Her husband,Louie Vestal Myers, died in 1992.
Survivors include sons Hayden Myers, Mocksville, and Harold Wayne Myers, Salisbury; daughter Linda Leazer, Mocksville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Eaton Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev.Phillip Park, the Rev. Bruce Rayburn and the Rev. Franklin Myers. Burial, Liberty UnitedMethodist Church cemetery.

Harvey H. ‘Billy’ Pearson
The funeral will be Saturday for Harvey H. “Billy” Pearson, 73, 1331 Hillsborough St., who died Monday (Jan. 22, 2001) at his home.
Born Oct. 26, 1927, in Salisbury, Mr. Pearson was a son of the late Jesse E. and Ida Bell Gee Pearson. Educated at J.C. Price High School, he was a retired construction worker, a member of the United House of Prayer for All People and a former member of the band.
Survivors include sons Benjamin and Drew Pearson, both of New York City; daughters Deborah Pearson-Haywood, Bronx, N.Y., and Yolanda Connors, Queens, N.Y.; brothers K.B. Pearson, New York City, and Jesse P. Pearson,Granite Quarry; sister Annie Reid, Salisbury; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

SPENCER — The funeral will be Saturday for Rachel Brattain Redding, 80, Spencer, who died Tuesday (Jan. 23, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after eight weeks of serious illness.
Born Dec. 28, 1920, in Stanly County, Mrs. Redding, a daughter of the late Oscar Jerome and Cornelia Brooks Brattain, was a 1937 graduate of Boyden High School, Salisbury. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of North Main Baptist Church and the Annie Brantley Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Salisbury Singing Seniors and the United Transportation Union Auxiliary.
Survivors include husband George Redding, whom she married Oct. 6, 1940; sons Michael Redding, Fredericksburg, Va., and Stephen Redding, Pulaski, Va.; sisters Croppsie Barnhart, Oakboro, and Velma Jacobs, Eunice Murphy, Hazel Snider, Flonnie Hysinger, Mary Lee Thompson and Ruth Hogsed, all of Salisbury; and three grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, North Main Baptist Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Dale Robertson. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Dewey Foster Williams
KANNAPOLIS — Dewey Foster “Pap” Williams, 90, 1007 N. Cannon Blvd., died Wednesday (Jan. 24, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born April 5, 1910, in Granville County, Mr. Williams was a son of the late Clem C. and Naomi Hicks Williams. He retired in 1975 from Cannon Mills Plant one, No. 6 weave room after 35 years. He was a member of Grace Covenant Church.
Survivors include wife of 67 years Ava McGhee Williams; daughter Rachel Williams Gabriel, Greensboro; sons Ronnie E.Williams, Kannapolis, and Dewey Ray Williams; sister Sara Williams Fuller, Franklinton; brother Leo Williams, Franklinton; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
