Wayne Tate and Steve Vail were the bigger winners on Saturday in the Crescent Men’s Golf Association’s “Snowman” Tournament.
Tate and Vail each had gross scores of 64 in the tournament that counted only eight holes on each side. Each golfer was allowed to throw out his worst hole on each nine.
Tate was awarded low gross, winning $45 in gift certificates, and Vail collected $45 for his low net score of 54.
Joe DeRubeis received the second low gross award ($35) worth his 65, while Mike Frye got third low gross ($25) worth a 66.
Second low net ($35) went to Brandon Denmon with a 58. Addison Smith and George Wilber each had 62s to share third low net, splitting $25.
Winning $20 prizes were DeRubeis for closest to the pin on No. 8 and Mike Harrison for the longest drive on No. 11.
Twenty-four golfers played in the association’s first event of 2001.

ANNUAL PLANS: Rocky River Golf Club of Concord has lowered its original prices on annual plans, designed to allow golfers to pay a one-time fee and enjoy membership-type privileges.
New promotional rates are available for each of three plans, with savings ranging from $300 annually for the premier plan to $500 for the senior plan.
“Our original prices were competitive with any other course in the Charlotte area,” said head pro Floyd Gragg. “Now it’s a financial no-brainer if you play a lot of golf.”
The premier plan is the Eagle Plan, which provides unlimited green fees seven days a week, range balls, 10-day priority access to tee times, USGA handicap service and 10 percent off merchandise. The price has dropped from $1,750 to $1,450 per year for nonresidents of Concord and from $1,450 to $1,150 for Concord residents.
The Birdie Plan, similar to the Eagle, offers unlimited green fees Monday through Friday.The price is down from $1,350 to $1,050 for nonresidents and down from $1,100 to $800 for residents.
The Bogey Plan is for seniors aged 55 and over. The rate has fallen from $1,250 to $750 annually for nonresidents and from $1,050 to $550 for residents. The plan has the same features as the other plans, with complimentary green fees Monday through Thursday.

ACES: Jeff Caudle and Kap Yang have made recent hole in ones at area courses.
Caudle, of Albemarle, aced the par-3, 164-yard No. 12 hole at Rolling Hills Golf Club with an 8-iron. He was playing with Ed Caudle, Don Goodwin and Walter Carpenter.
Yang, of Salisbury, aced the par-3, 150-yard No. 6 hole at McCanless Golf Club with a 6-iron. He was playing with Robert Heard.
