MOCKSVILLE — Edna Cushwa Griffin, 92, formerly
of Mock Place, died Thursday (Jan. 18, 2001) at Autumn Care of Mocksville, where
she resided for two years.

Arthur Fred Love Jr.
Arthur Fred Love Jr., 80, 237 S. McCoy Road, died
Thursday (Jan. 18, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 17, 1920, in Mecklenburg County, Mr.
Love, a son of the late Arthur Fred and Ollie Hinshaw Love, was educated in the
Mecklenburg County schools. He retired from Ford Motor Co., where he was
national sales manager of the truck division.
A veteran, during World War II he was a B24 pilot
in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include wife Ann Helms Love; and half
sister Christine Hunter, Charlotte.
Services: Private graveside services will be
heldMonday at the U.S. National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd., Salisbury. The body
will be cremated.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at
the home on South McCoy Road.

Mary Dayvault Peeler
KANNAPOLIS— The funeral will be Saturday for
Mary Dayvault Peeler, 88, formerly of 505 Jackson St., who died Thursday (Jan.
18, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Sept. 15, 1912, in Rowan County, Mrs. Peeler
was a daughter of the late David Henderson and Mertie Patterson Dayvault. In
1972, she retired after 50 years from Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1 sewing room.
She was a member of St. John’s United Church of
Christ, where she sang in the choir for 60 years and was active with Sunday
school, the Women’s Guild and the Jennie Peeler Circle.
Her husband, George D. Peeler, died Sept. 15,
1996.
Survivors include brothers Roy D. Dayvault,
Charlotte, and Kenneth Dayvault, Wilmington; and sisters Helen D. Richardson and
Alice D. McCombs, both of Kannapolis.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, St. John’s United
Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Norred.Burial, Carolina Memorial
Park.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Saturday in the church
sanctuary.

Roy Lee Taulbee
MIDLAND — Roy Lee Taulbee, 92, 2912 Chrystal
Drive, died Thursday (Jan. 18, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont, Albemarle.
Born June 22, 1908, in Lee City, Ky., Mr. Taulbee
was a son of the late Cortney and Ida Mae Strong Taulbee. He was the manager of
Eastern Motor Express.
Survivors include wife Janet S. Taulbee; sons Roy
L. Taulbee Jr., Salisbury, and Rocky Taulbee, Wilmington; daughter Joann Estel,
Midland; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 today, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel,
Midland, conducted by the Rev. Jim Sherman. Burial, West Concord Cemetery,
Concord.
Visitation: 2-3 today at the funeral home. At
other times the family will be at the home on Crystal Drive.
Brownie Powell Williams
MOCKSVILLE — Brownie Powell Williams, 93,
Fairfield Road, died Wednesday (Jan. 17, 2001) at her home after a short
illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1907, in Iredell County, Mrs.
Williams, a daughter of Thomas Frank and Maude Hayes Powell, was a homemaker.
She had been employed by Cone Mills and was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church,
Cooleemee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie
A. Williams, and a daughter, Margaret Louise Williams.
Survivors include sons William Baxter Williams,
Ozark, Ala., Wayne A. and Roger Dale Williams, both of Mocksville, and Kenneth
G. Williams, Jonesboro, Ga.; daughters Eloise Green and Betty Sue Bean, both of
Mocksville; brothers Herman Powell, Mocksville, Gilmer Powell,Greensboro, and
Kenneth Powell, Salisbury; sister Hazel Thournburg, Graham; 11 grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Edgewood Baptist
Church, Cooleemee, conducted by the Rev. Danny Shores, the Rev. Clyde Settle and
the Rev.Fred Carlton. Burial, Rocky Springs Baptist Church cemetery.
