Edna Casper Beaver

CHINA GROVE — Edna Estelle Casper Beaver, 92, formerly of 79 Central Ave., died Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2001) at The Meadows of Rockwell.

Born July 25, 1908, in Rowan County, Mrs. Beaver, a daughter of the late WIlliam Adolphus and Ada Shuping Casper, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She retired from China Grove Cotton Mill and was a member of Landis Baptist Church.

Her husband, Mark O. Beaver, died April 1, 1999, and a daughter, Nelda Beaver, died at birth.

Survivors include son Max “Tim” Beaver, Salisbury; nephew reared in the home Jack Stirewalt, High Point; brother Vestal S. Casper, Salisbury; one grandchild; three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Rickey Brown and the Rev. Billy Honeycutt. Entombment, West Lawn Mausoleum.

Visitation: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of TimBeaver, 131 Gold Hill Drive, Salisbury.

Donald Richard Brigman

The funeral will be Thursday for Donald Richard Brigman, 54, Salisbury, who died Monday (Jan. 15, 2001) at Cumberland Medical Center, Crossville, Tenn., from injuries sustained in a truck accident.

Born Sept. 7, 1946, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Brigman was a son of the late Luther Adam and Ruby May Brigman. He was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School, Kannapolis. A truck driver and trainer, he was employed by Spencer Steel Co., Spencer.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Tabernacle and the men’s group. He was also a member of North American Hunt Club and the National Rifle Association.

A son, Donnie Wayne Brigman, died in May 1989.

Survivors include wife Sandra Brady Brigman, whom he married Dec. 31, 1982; son Donald Richard “Ritchie”Brigman, China Grove; daughters Tina Kay Simmons and Tonya Ann Rife, both of Salisbury; brother Michael Brigman, Salisbury; and eight grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Calvary Baptist Tabernacle, conducted by the Rev. Steve Holshouser, pastor; the Rev. Ronnie Simpson, pastor, Brightlight Baptist Church; and the Rev. Bob Lyons. Burial, Union Lutheran Church cemetery.

Visitation: 12-1:30 p.m. Thursday in the church fellowship hall.

Sarah J. Fleenor

Sarah J. Fleenor, 70, Salisbury, formerly of Greensboro, died Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born in Watauga County, she retired from AT&T. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Spencer, and a former member of Hinshaw Memorial United Methodist Church, Greensboro.

Survivors include daughters Janet Medlin, Salisbury, and Kay Adkins, Denton; sisters Elizabeth Combs, Vilas, and Ruth Henson, Zionville; brother Henry Johnson, Bristol, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Hanes-Lineberry, Sedgefield Chapel, Greensboro. Entombment at Guilford Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials: Central United Methodist Church, Organ Fund, P.O. Box 195, Spencer, NC 28159.

 

Bernice Roberts Graham

The funeral will be Friday for Bernice Elizabeth Roberts Graham, 79, 517 Third Street Extension, who died Saturday (Jan. 13, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include daughter Peggy Ann Irving, East Spencer; son Johnny Otis Graham, East Spencer; sisters Ida B. Summers, Statesville, and Estella Fiemster, Manhattan, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: Noon Friday, Refuge Church of God in Christ, conducted by Elder O.C. Hargon. Burial at the National Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday at the church.

Terry Lane Hartsell

ALBEMARLE — Terry Lane Hartsell, 47, 2411 Vickers Road, died Monday (Jan. 15, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Dec. 20, 1953, in Stanly County, Mr. Hartsell was a son of the late Fay J. and Priscilla Smith Hartsell. He was employed by Wiscassett Mill Co. and was a member of Mount View Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Jacqueline Tolbert Hartsell; sons Stephen J. and David L. Hartsell, both of Albemarle; daughters Melissa and Amanda Hartsell, both of Albemarle; and sisters Mary Ellen Smith, Norwood, and Bonnie Hudson, Albemarle.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Mount View Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steve Tucker. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 8-9 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home.

 

Lena Rumple Little

HIGH POINT — Lena Rumple Little, 87, Ardmore Circle, died Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2001) at High Point Regional Hospital.

Born Jan. 19, 1913, in Statesville, Mrs. Little was a daughter of the late John and Dora Troutman Rumple. She was a longtime Cleveland resident and retired in 1978 from Fiber Industries, now KoSa.

She was a member of Cleveland Methodist Church and High Point YWCA.

Her husband, A.C. Little, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Jean L. Freedle, High Point; sister Lou R. Bruns, Falls Church,Va.; brother Bill Rumple, Odenton, Md.; three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

Services: Memorial, 1 p.m. Friday, Harold C. Davis Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jill Auman.

Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ronnie Joseph McCrary

The funeral will be Sunday for Ronnie Joseph McCrary, 42, Salisbury, formerly of Davidson County, who died Sunday (Jan. 14, 2001) in Davidson County.

Born Aug. 21, 1958, in Davie County, Mr. McCrary was a son ofWilliam Joseph McCrary and the stepson of Shirley Jean Triplette McCrary, Salisbury, and the son of the late Joyce Setzer McCrary. He attended North Rowan High School. A Baptist, he was employed by McCrary Painting Company.

Survivors, in addition to his father and stepmother, include brothers Robert Lee and Scottie Wayne McCrary, both of Salisbury; sister Marsha Travis, Hickory; and stepsisters Angelia McCrary, Salisbury, Renee Foster, Thomasville, and Diahann Reich, Asheville.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Lyerly Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Margaret Garrison. Burial, family plot at Legion Memorial Park, Cooleemee.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the Salisbury home of his father and stepmother, William Joseph and Shirley Jean Triplette McCrary.

 

Samuel Lee Prevette

LEXINGTON — Samuel Lee Prevette, 81, 837 Sink Farm Road, died Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2001) at his home.

Born April 16, 1919, in Rowan County, Mr. Prevette was a son of the late Noah William and Rebecca Jane Trogdon Prevette. A resident of Davidson County for most of his life, he retired from the Lexington Post Office and was a member of Tyro United Methodist Church.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

His wife, Gloria Sink Prevette, and a daughter, Avril Jane Prevette, preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters Tamara Prevette Byrd and Gretchen Ann Prevette Trexler, both of Lexington; sons Sam Prevette Jr. and Steven Sink Prevette, both of Tyro; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Tyro United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Claude Kayler, the Rev. Chip Webb and the Rev.Jerry Webb. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial, Bethel Cemetery. Rites by Randolph County Honor Guard.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at 378 Sunset Drive.

Mary Bryant Perkins

Mary Bryant Perkins, 95, 612 W. Monroe St., died Tuesday (Jan. 16, at her home after two years of declining health and a week of serious illness.

Born Dec. 10, 1905, in Craven County, Mrs. Perkins was a daughter of the late William Isaac and Laura Francis Hoskins Bryant. She was educated in the Craven County schools and received a bachelor of arts degree from Shaw University, Raleigh, and a masters of arts degree from Columbia University, New York City.

Retired, she had worked in the Rowan County School System for 42 years as an elementary education teacher and speech pathologist.

She was a member of Soldiers Memorial AMEZion Church where she was affiliated as a trustee, was a former president of the associate trustees and the Anna Hause Missionary Society.

She organized and directed a children’s choir and was a church musician.

Mrs. Perkins was a member of numerous professional, fraternal and social organizations, including past worthy matron and secretary of Pearl White Chapter 180, Order of the Eastern Star; grand lecturer of the Western Region of North Carolina; grand chapter, Order of the Eastern Star (Price Hall affiliate).

Organizer of the Golden Circle, Joseph P. Evans Assembly 280, she was a member of Minor-Perkins Phyllis Society Auxiliary, which was named in her honor. She was also a member of the Alpha Alpha ZetaChapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Her husband of 60 years, Malcolm “M.H.”Perkins, died in 1998.

Survivors include foster sons Ernest McCray, Salisbury, Ernest “Pete” McCray, Fort Knox, Ky., and William McCray, Spencer; and foster daughters Frances McCray, Salisbury, and Wendy B. McCray, Atlanta, Ga.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Soldiers Memorial AMEZion Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Murray L. Edwards. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the home on West Monroe Street.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

Mitchell &Fair Funeral Service is in charge.
