Phillip Wayne Adkins
Phillip Wayne Adkins, 38, of Salisbury, died
Sunday (Jan. 14, 2001)at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center,
Winston-Salem, after a brief illness.
Born March 11, 1962, in Rowan County, Mr. Adkins
was a son of E.W. “Bill” and Nancy Roberts Adkins of Landis. Educated in
Rowan County schools, he attended N.C. State University, Raleigh, and graduated
from Catawba College. He was employed for Alcoa, Badin, as an information
technology technician.
Mr. Adkins was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran
Church, where he served on the congregational council, was a member of the
church choir and the Lutheran Men in Mission. He was an Eagle Scout.
Survivors include wife Ellen Kesler Adkins, whom
he married May 25, 1985; daughter Maria Elizabeth Adkins, of the home; brothers
David Adkins, Salisbury and Darren Adkins, Troutman; and maternal grandfather
Roy Roberts, Landis.
Services:2 p.m. Tuesday, Gloria Dei Lutheran
Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. William H. Batterman, minister. The body will
be cremated.
Visitation:7-9 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home.
At other times the family will be at the residence.

KANNAPOLIS — Joseph Paul Chastain, 89, 2007
West A St., died Sunday (Jan. 14, 2001) at Spencer Nursing Center.
Born Sept. 7, 1911, in Franklin County, Ga., Mr.
Chastain was a son of the late Balus S. and Ada Bray Chastain. He retired from
Cannon Mills, Plant No. 1 bleachery department in 1971 and was a member of
Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church, Kannapolis.
Survivors include wife Pauline Barney Chastain;
sons Robert Glenn Chastain, Salisbury, and Balus S. Chastain, Arden; brothers J.
Frank Chastain, Anderson, S.C., and F. Taylor Chastain, Peachtree City, Ga.;
sisters Reba C. Mann, Greenville, S.C., and Hanna C. Brosche, Atlanta, Ga.; six
grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Adam Warren Love
BADIN — Adam Warren Love, 83, 217 Spruce St.,
died Saturday (Jan. 13, 2001) at the home of daughter Gay Shaver, Statesville.
Born Dec. 19, 1917, in Stanly County, Mr. Love
was a son of the late Bruce V. and Annie Baucom Love. Educated in Stanly County
and Cabarrus County schools, he graduated and was valedictorian of the class of
1936 of Mount Pleasant High School. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a retired major
in the N.C. National Guard. He served with the 7th Army in the Pacific Theater
during World War II. He was a member of Badin United Methodist Church, where he
served as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, member of the
Methodist Men and the administrative board. He was a member of the Badin VFW and
Yadkin Falls Masonic Lodge No. 637. He was employed with Alcoa Badin Works for
44 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1981.
Survivors, in addition to his daughter, include
wife Marie Carter Love, whom he married July 31, 1942; son Warren Love Jr.,
Pembroke; sister Alice L. Purvis, Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Badin United Methodist
Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert E. Romanello. Burial, Palestine Cemetery,
Albemarle, with military rites by the Stanly County DAV Chapter 12.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Hartsell Funeral

Blanche Culler Mann
Blanche Alice Culler Mann, 93, of Swannanoa,
formerly of Salisbury, died Saturday (Jan. 13, 2001)in a local health care
center.
Born in High Point, Mrs. Mann was a beautician
and owner of Emerywood Beauty Shop. A resident of Salisbury from 1972-1993, she
was a member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church.
Survivors include son Ronald “Ron” Mann;
sister Thelma Royals, High Point; two grandchildren; and one
great-granddaughter.

Jerry Eugene Surratt
Jerry Eugene Surratt, 62, of Summit Avenue, died
Saturday (Jan. 13, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, after several weeks
of declining health.
Born Nov. 2, 1938, in Davidson County, Mr.
Surratt was a son of the late Carl Gilmar and Eunice Lomax Surratt. A graduate
of Campbell University, he had been a machinist with ColorTex. Amember of St.
Luke’s Episcopal Church, Salisbury, he served on the usher board and was a
member of the Spencer Moose.
Survivors include sons Jason Surratt, Charlotte,
and Jeremy Surratt, Salisbury.
Services:Memorial, 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Luke’s
Episcopal Church, conducted by Rector Stephen B. Morris. The body will be
cremated. Eaton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
