Johnny Emory
FAITH — The funeral will be
held Sunday for Johnny Lee Emory, 79, who died Friday (Jan. 12, 2001) at Genesis
ElderCare in Salisbury.
Born Dec. 3, 1921, in Vance
County, he was the son of the late Maggie Parks and Lee Roy Emory. Educated in
the Rowan County Schools, he was a painter for N.C. Finishing Co. for 45 years.
He was also a self-employed painter.
Mr. Emory belonged to Shiloh
United Church of Christ and Faith American Legion Post 327. He was a U.S. Army
veteran.
His son, John L. Emory Jr., died
Nov. 27, 1988, and his wife, Nell Fraley Emory, died Aug. 6, 1992.
Survivors include a daughter,
Dawn Joyner, Salisbury; a sister, Estelle Williams, Tampa, Fla.; and two
grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Shiloh
United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Lawrence Bolick, pastor. Burial,
church cemetery.

Franklin S. Harris
ROXBORO — Franklin Sidney
Harris, 66, Walker’s Path, formerly of Lexington, died Thursday (Jan. 11,
2001) at the VAMedical Center in Durham
Born July 10, 1934, in Halifax
County, Va., he was the son of Walter Lewis Harris and Ruth Irene Hall Saunders.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he had retired from Byrd Motor Lines
as a truck driver. Mr. Harris attended Highview Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters Linda
Harris Whitlow, Roxboro, and Dorothy Ann Burrow, Patricia Smith and Susan
Watkins, all of Lexington; a son, Franklin S. Harris Jr., Mount Airy; sisters
Agnes Dunkley and Marion Clayton, both of Roxboro, and Maxine Moore, Timberlake;
brothers Elwood and John Harris, both of Roxboro; nine grandchildren, five
step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Joe Louis Heggins
The funeral for Joe Louis Heggins,
64, 526 W. Marsh St., will be held Sunday. Mr. Heggins died Thursday (Jan. 11,
2001) at Genesis ElderCare after an illness of three weeks.

Joyce Sifford Parker
Joyce Ann Sifford Parker, 51, 203
E. Horah St., died Thursday (Jan. 11, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center
after declining health of two months and a serious illness of a week.
Born Jan. 3, 1950, she was the
daughter of the late Ruby Parker Sifford and the late Lester Little. A graduate
of Dunbar High School in East Spencer, she also attended bartending school. A
former textile worker, she was last employed by the Salisbury Post.
Survivors include brothers John
Sifford, Ronnie Lee Sifford and Edward Sifford, all of Salisbury; and a sister,
Cynthia Wetlock, Marietta, Ga.
There will be no funeral service.

Helen Carter Patterson
A graveside service will be held
Sunday for Helen Davis Carter Patterson, 74, of Monetta, S.C., formerly of Rowan
County, who died Wednesday (Jan. 10, 2001) at Medical College of Georgia after a
week of serious illness.
Born Aug. 24, 1926, in Columbus,
Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Betty Jane Davis Carter. Educated in the
Columbus schools, she was a retired textile worker.
Survivors include her husband,
Orval Ray Patterson, whom she married Sept. 28, 1968; sons Hugh William Wilkins,
Salisbury, and Robert William Wilkins, Ocala, Fla.; daughters Sharon K. Linker,
Port Royal, S.C., Beverly Ann Charlton, Monroe, Nancy Lee Wilkins, Ocala, Fla.,
and Betty Jane Mullin, Fredericktown, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 25
great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m.

Lucille Sides Poole
ROCKWELL — The funeral will be
Sunday for Lucille Sides Poole, 91, who died Friday (Jan. 12, 2001) at the
Meadows Retirement Center.
Born June 25, 1909, in Rowan
County, Mrs. Poole was the daughter of the late Cora Belle Trexler and Julian
Henry Sides. Educated at Rockwell High School, she worked at Cannon Mills, China
Grove Cotton Mill and Rockwell Mills in her earlier life. She retired in 1983
from Rowan Industries after 35 years as a seamstress.
She was a lifelong member of St.
James Lutheran Church, where she was a life member of WELCA and belonged to the
Daisy Trexler Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the church choir.
She was also a member of the
Rockwell Senior Citizens Club.
Her husband, Ernest W. Poole,
died March 16, 1984.
Survivors include a son, Jim F.
Poole, Rockwell; sisters Pearl S. Barringer and Ruth S. Carter, both of
Rockwell; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, St.
James Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Craig E. Sigmon, pastor. Burial,
church cemetery.

Billy S. Rary
CHINA GROVE — Billy Sanders
Rary, 78, 390 Brown Road, died Friday (Jan. 12, 2001) at NorthEast Medical
Center, Concord.
Born Sept. 29, 1922, in Cabarrus
County, he was son of the late Mary Kirk and Archie Y. Rary. Educated in the
Rowan County schools, he had retired as a supervisor in the weaving room at
Cannon Mills.
Mr. Rary belonged to Oak Grove
Methodist Church. He served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne of the U.S.
Army in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Helen
Freeze Rary; sons Tony Rary, Kannapolis, and Dean Rary, China Grove; daughter
Benita Wooten, Cleveland; brothers Howard and Jack Rary, both of China Grove;
sisters Thelma Webb and Louise Fust, both of China Grove; seven grandchildren
and two step-grandchildren.

Grove United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Paula Judy. Burial, West
Lawn Memorial Park.

‘Jim’ Sides
KANNAPOLIS — Harry James
“Jim” Sides, 81, 2995 Camp Julia Road, died Friday (Jan. 12, 2001) at Rowan
Regional Medical Center after declining health of several months and a serious
illness of a week.
Born Feb. 15, 1919, in Cabarrus
County, he was the son of the late William Lee and Dora Alice Hileman Sides.
Mr. Sides had retired from the
weave room at Cannon Mills after 35 years with the company. He served as a medic
with the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by a
daughter, Faye Alice Sides Milstead.
Survivors include son Edward
Sides, Chesterfield, S.C.; sister Bernice Sides Barrier, Kannapolis; a grandson;
and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Lady’s
Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Raymond Ross. Burial, Sunset Cemetery, with
military graveside rites by the Disabled American Veterans of Concord.
