Watson Everett Allred

Watson Everett Allred, 68, of Linwood, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born June 22, 1932, in Guilford County, Mr. Allred was a son of the late Julius Everett and Ila Jane Wall Allred. Educated in Guilford County schools, he was a U.S. Army veteran, retiring after 20 years of service. He had served two years in Vietnam, where he was a member of the aerial medivac chopper, flying more than 175 missions. He also later retired from the W.G. “Bill” Hefner VA Medical Center.

Mr. Allred was a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge No. 473 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies, Charlotte Valley, and Oasis Temple of Charlotte. He was also a member of the Lexington Shrine Club, VFW Post 3006, Salisbury, and the Amvets Post No. 999, Salisbury. He was a Baptist.

His wife, Mary Barber Allred, died May 2, 1994.

Survivors include sons Monty Antonio Allred, Lexington, and Darrin Lee Allred, Mebane; daughter Jeanette Heffron, Lexington, and Sheila Diane Gobble, Mocksville; stepdaughter Mary Louise Parker, Linwood; brothers Ronald Allred, Kernersville, and Jerry Allred, Grand Rapids, Mich.; sister Phyllis Parker, Salisbury; two grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Salisbury National Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Raymond Miller, with military rites conducted by the Rowan County Veteran’s Council.

Visitation: 9:45-10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at their respective homes.

Larry J. Bean

SPENCER — Larry J. Bean, 58, of High Point, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001)at his mother’s Spencer residence.

Ernest Broadway

Ernest Broadway, 3720 Stokes Ferry Road, died Saturday (Jan. 6, 2001) at his residence.

Bertha Lambert Cagle

ALBEMARLE — Bertha Lambert Cagle, 79, 24467 Helms Road, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 20, 1921, in Stanly County, Mrs. Cagle was a daughter of the late Fetzer and Lilly Lowder Lambert. She was retired from Wiscassett Mills, where she was a yarn weigher, and was a member of Canton Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband Clyde William Cagle; son Lewis Cagle, Albemarle; foster son Mike Barbee, Albemarle; daughters Phyllis Parker, Badin, Virginia Eury and Ann Poplin, both of Albemarle, Bertha Lorene Bost, New London, and Bonnie Williams, Richfield; brother Grover Lambert, Albemarle; sisters Mildred Barbee and Ruth Dick, both of Albemarle, and Victoria McLendon, Fayetteville; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Palestine Cemetery, Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. Boyd Joyce.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home.

 

Vickie Shoaf Eagle

Vickie Shoaf Eagle, 43, 1245 Steven Drive, died Saturday (Jan. 6, 2001) at Brian Center Health &Rehabilitation of Salisbury.

Born Feb. 19, 1957, in Ft. Monroe, Va., Mrs. Eagle was a daughter of James Lee Shoaf, Salisbury, and the late Gwyndola Cook Shoaf. Educated in Rowan County schools, she was a certified nursing assistant with Rowan Medical Facilities. She was of the Baptist faith.

Her daughter, Misty Le-Ann Eagle, died June 4, 2000.

Survivors include husband Roy “Sonny” Eagle Jr.; son James Allen Eagle, Granite Quarry; sisters Tamara Hale, Spencer, and Shiela Shoaf, Salisbury; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Northcrest Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Clayton C. Palmer Jr., and Kathy Eagle Patterson. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 Monday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home.

 

Margaret B. Fritzsche

Margaret B. Fritzsche, 87, of Meadows of Rockwell, and formerly of Islip Terrace and Huntington Station, Long Island, N.Y., died Friday (Jan. 5, 2001)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, after five years of declining health.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Fritzsche.

Survivors include sons Robert Fritzsche and Kenneth Fritzsche; sister Helen Fiorello; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services:Graveside, Tuesday, Oakwood Cemetery, Bay Shore, Long Island, N.Y. Memorial, 2 p.m. Sunday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Salisbury.

Millard ‘Doc’ F. Gamble

Millard “Doc” F. Gamble, 87, 1022 South Church St., died Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001)at Brightmoor Nursing Center, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.

Frank Theodore Gardner

MOORESVILLE — Frank Theodore Gardner, 79, E. Waterlynn Road, died Saturday (Jan. 6, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Jan. 25, 1924, in Iredell County, Mr. Gardner was a son of the late John Frank and Frances Mae Spradley Gardner. A painter and retired weaver from Cannon Mills, Kannapolis, he was a member of Fieldstone Presbyterian Church, Mooresville. He was a member of Tom Swann VFW Post No. 1072, Mooresville.

Survivors include wife Amy Frye Gardner, Mooresville; sons Frank Gardner Jr., Katy, Texas, and Larry D. Gardner, Kannapolis; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Tuesday, Fieldstone Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Virginia Cowfer, and the Rev. Charles McHargue. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Janie Alexander Gibson

ROCKWELL — Janie Alexander Gibson, 78, of Virginia Beach, Va., and formerly of Salisbury, died Saturday (Jan. 6, 2001) at Virginia Beach.

Born Aug. 17, 1923, Mrs. Gibson was a daughter of the late James Torrence and Ann Garris Alexander. She worked for Carolina Maid and Cannon Mills for many years and was a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ, Faith.

Her husband, Robert Leo Gibson, died July 26, 1985, and a son, Robert Stewart Gibson, died in 1944.

Survivors include daughter Patricia Nemeth, Virginia Beach, Va.; brother James Alexander, Rockwell; sisters Louise Eagle, and Edna Drye, both of Rockwell, and Dorothy Hodges; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services:Graveside, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. Lawrence Bolick, pastor, Shiloh United Church of Christ, Faith.

HIGH POINT —Henry Preston Giles, 70, 140 Spring Gardens, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001) at High Point Regional Medical Center.

Salomie ‘J.V.’ Hall

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Tuesday for Salomie “J.V.”Hall, 96, of Rockwell, died Saturday (Jan. 6, 2001) at her residence.

Born April 7, 1904, in Davidson County, Mrs. Hall was a daughter of the late Theoadore S. and Sarah Lentz Poole. Educated in Rowan County schools, she retired from Cannon Mills spinning room, Rockwell, after 45 years with the company. She was a charter member of Rockwell United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a former chief choir member and sang with a quartet for many years.

Her husband, Robert B. Hall, died in 1974.

Survivors include daughter Doris Hall Beaver, Rockwell; brothers Joe Poole, Salisbury, and Beuford Poole, New London; sisters Lee Lyerly, Salisbury, and Carrie Earnhardt, Rockwell; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Tuesday, Rockwell United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ellen Harkey, pastor, and the Rev. Bill Currie, former pastor. Burial, Ursinus United Church of Christ cemetery.

James Franklin Hudson

CHINA GROVE — James Franklin Hudson, 89, 330 Rose Ave., died Monday (Jan. 8, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Hazel Glover Kluttz

Hazel Glover Kluttz, 94, of Salisbury, died Monday (Jan. 8, 2001) at N.C.Lutheran Home, Hickory.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Hazel Parrish Simpson

Hazel Parrish Simpson, 88, of Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center, Knoxville, Tenn., and formerly of Salisbury, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001) at St. Mary’s Hospital, Knoxville.

Born Sept. 13, 1912, in Salisbury, Mrs. Simpson was a daughter of the late James Franklin and Mary Elva Pearson Parrish. Educated in Salisbury schools, she retired from Cone Mills after 42 years with the company and moved to Knoxville in 1992.

Her husband, Thomas Ralph Simpson, died Dec. 23, 1967.

Survivors include daughters Martha S. Myrick, Knoxville, and Ellen S. Cobb, Denver, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services:Graveside, 1 p.m. Tuesday, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Frank Alridge.

Visitation:7-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home.

Pleasant ‘Smiley’ Walter

CONCORD — The funeral will be Tuesday for Pleasant William “Smiley” Walter, 71, 2355 Penninger Road, who died Saturday (Jan. 6, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, after seven months of declining health.

Born June 14, 1929, in Rowan County, Mr. Walter was a son of the late George Welburn and Louanna Saphire Troutman Walter. Employed with Aker’s Motor Lines from 1960 until the company closed in the early 1970s, he retired from Charlotte Precast in 1993. In 1988, Mr. Walter donated the use of his land for the creation of the “HorrorHills” Halloween trail, which operated to benefit Easter Seals through 1998 and raised more than $35,000 for the children’s charity.

Survivors include wife Amy Beatrice Drye Walter, to whom he was married for 52 years; sons Gary Douglas Walter, Roy Welburn Walter and Jeffrey LeReese Walter, all of Concord; daughter Michele Deanne Walter, Kannapolis; brother Boyden Troutman Walter, Winston-Salem; sisters Esther Louise Griffith, Kannapolis, and Gladys Katherine Shue, Salisbury; and five grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Mount Mitchell United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. David Duncan and the Rev. John Mark Lindsay. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

John Frank Williams

NEW LONDON — John Frank Williams, 52, 43686 Cyprus Crossing, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001) at the home of his mother.

Born Jan. 3, 1949, in Stanly County, Mr. Williams was a son of Cora Emma Bunch Williams, New London and the late Alexander Holt Williams. He was a retired machinist and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Patricia Ann Sites Williams; stepsons Mark Morton, Charlotte, Charlie Morton, Raleigh, Ryan Michael Duke, New London, and John Patton Duke, Norwood; sisters Lois W. Dixon, Charlotte, and Doris Sexton, Houston, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Bethel United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Carroll Flack, the Rev. Boyd Joyce and Hubert Ragsdale, eulogist. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation:7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home of the Cora Bunch Williams, 44018 Mountain Creek Road, New London.
