Marshall Bell

Marshall Bell, 85, of New Jersey Church Road, died Saturday (Dec. 30, 2000) at W.G. Heffner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born March 8, 1915, in Davidson County, Mr. Bell was a son of the late James “Jim” and Julia Cross Bell. Educated in the Davidson County school system, he was a graduate of Wood Morgan Barber School, Charlotte. He was a retired self- employed barber.

Mr. Bell was a chairman of the trustee board for New Jersey AME Zion Church and was a class leader and member of the graveyard committee. He was a past member of ACACIA Lodge 66 P.H.A., the JNO G. Lewis Consistory, a member of Al Kaltaha Temple of the Shrine and a member of Banks Miller American Legion Post 255.

Survivors include wife Lula Mae Hogan Bell; sons Aggrester Bell, Woodleaf, and Harold Bell, Oxon Hill, Md.; daughters Shirley Bynoe and Juliana Ballard, both of Newark, Del., Josephine Jones and Linda Talbert, both of Lexington, and Dr. Cynthia Bell, Washington, D.C.; brother Archie T. Bell, Jersey City, N.J.; sisters Mary Bell Thomas, Fayetteville, and Stella Mae Murphy, Lexington; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday, New Jersey AME Zion Church, conducted by the Rev. Allen Stinson. Burial, church cemetery with full military rites.

Visitation: 2:30-3 p.m. Friday, at the church. The remains can be viewed 1-8 p.m. today, and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Morrison-Studevent Funeral Home.

Memorials: New Jersey AME Zion Church, 1638 New Jersey Church Road, Lexington, NC 27292.

 

Edith Stoner Cranford

Edith Stoner Cranford, 92, of Salisbury, died Wednesday (Jan. 3, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Powles Funeral Home of Rockwell is in charge.

 

Samuel ‘Sam’ Gordon

Samuel “Sam”Harvey Gordon, 79, of Salisbury, died Thursday (Jan. 4, 2001) at his residence.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Willette Kelly Hollar

EAST SPENCER — The funeral will be Sunday for Willette Kelly Hollar, 82, 510 Andrews St., who died Saturday (Dec. 30, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after an extended illness.

Born Dec. 19, 1918, in Rowan County, Mrs. Hollar was a daughter of the late Louis Walter and Irene Threadgill Kelly. A graduate of Dunbar High School and Greensboro Beauty College, she was a supervisor at Bell Atlantic. She was a member of Church of God and Saints of Christ in Belleville, Va.

Survivors include brothers John Kelly, Washington, D.C., and Amos Kelly, Columbus, Ga.; and sister Pauline Flood, Detroit, Mich.

Services:10 a.m. Sunday, Church of God and Saints of Christ, conducted by Elder Judah N. Roberts, pastor. Burial, Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Va.

Visitation:None. The body can be viewed at Rowan Funeral Service today and Friday.

 

Mary Elizabeth Mooney

ALBEMARLE — Mary Elizabeth Leddy Mooney, 81, 1910 Woodhaven Lane Apt. 34, and formerly of Durham, died Tuesday (Jan. 2, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center.

Born Nov. 26, 1919, in Richmond Hill, N.Y., Mrs. Mooney was a daughter of the late Philip Joseph and Helen Augustas Barowsky Leddy. Educated in the Durham County school system, she was a library assistant at Jordan High School. She was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, as well as a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Durham, where she was one of the Catholic Daughters.

Survivors include daughters Maureen Ann Mooney Lefler, Albemarle, and Patricia Mary Mooney Way, Clemmons; sisters Edna Brown, Millbrook, N.Y., Anne Cowden, Medford, N.Y., Fran McCormock, Hicksville, N.Y., and Helen McPartland, East Hampton, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

Services: Mass, 11 a.m. Saturday, Annunciation Catholic Church, Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. Lawrence W. Heiney. Burial, Salisbury National Cemetery, VA Medical Center site.

Visitation:None scheduled.

Memorials: Annunciation Catholic Church, 416 N. Second St., Albemarle, NC 28001; or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 810 W. Chapel Hill St., Durham, NC 27707.

Wesley Berry Petty

FUQUAY-VARINA — Wesley Berry Petty, 74, 4200 Hilltop Road, died Thursday (Dec. 28, 2000)at the Laurels of Chatham Nursing Home, Pittsboro.

Mr. Petty was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include son John Wesley Petty, Waycross, Ga.; sisters Jackie P. Arthurs and Edna P. Cook, both of Salisbury; and brother Frank Petty, Warren, Rhode Island.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Apex.

Apex Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
