CLEVELAND — The funeral will be Thursday for
Dewey Wayne Connell, 55, 6785 Chenault Road, who died Sunday (Feb. 25, 2001) at
Baptist Hospital of Cocke County, Newport, Tenn.
Born Aug. 1, 1945, in Rowan County, Mr. Connell,
a son of Olin Connell, Salisbury, and the late Bessie Waller Connell, was
educated in the Woodleaf schools. He was a driver for Epes Trucking Co. and had
previously driven for Schaffer Wood Products. He was a member of Community
Baptist Church, Cooleemee.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include
companion Margie L. Church; son Donald W. Connell, Salisbury; daughter Marsha C.
Frye, Salisbury; brothers Ray “Buck” Connell and R.J. Connell, both of
Cooleemee; sisters Paulette Chattin, Cooleemee, Brenda and Vickie Connell, both
of Mocksville, and Diane Waller, Salisbury; and three grandchildren.

Ralph Thomas Glasco
SPENCER — The funeral will be Wednesday for
Ralph Thomas Glasco, 33, 1240 Hollywood Drive, who died Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001)
at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born June 18, 1967, in Rowan County, Mr. Glasco
was a son of Laura Glasco Spratt, Salisbury. He was a graduate of North Rowan
High School, Rowan Beauty Academy and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
A hair stylist at Essence Salon, he was a
certified nurses’ assistant.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include
adopted parents Ralph Thomas and Mary W. Fleming, of the home; brother Eric
Glasco, Hickory; and sisters Angela Glasco Young, Hickory, and Louise Gray,
Salisbury.

LEXINGTON — Gary Dean Henson, 29, 123 Bertessa
Lane, died Sunday (Feb. 25, 2001) at his home.
Born Aug. 30, 1971, in Catawba County, Mr. Henson
was a son of Elizabeth Jean Gardner McConnell, Lexington, and Doug Poore,
Hickory. He attended Faith Baptist Tabernacle.

Edna Jean Hunt
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. —Edna Jean Hunt, 88, Myrtle
Beach, died Monday (Feb. 26, 2001) at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Born March 16, 1912, in Rockwell, N.C. ,Mrs. Hunt
was a daughter of the late Cyrus Adams and Elsia Elwood Foutz Trexler. She
relocated to the Myrtle Beach area in 1962, where she was employed for many
years at Driftwood Lodge. She was a member of First United Methodist Church,
Myrtle Beach.
Her husband,Wilson Hunt, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Nona H. Dobson, Myrtle
Beach; brother Gordon Trexler, Rockwell, N.C.; sister Elizabeth Shuping,
Rockwell, N.C.; and two grandsons.

Nancy Latham Knight
The funeral will be Wednesday for Nancy Margaret
Latham “Mother” Knight, 81, Salisbury, who died Sunday (Feb. 25, 2001) at
her home after two years of serious illness.
Born Nov. 9, 1919, in Union County, Ky., Mrs.
Knight was a daughter of the late Robert and Ivie Berry Latham. She was educated
in the Kentucky schools and was a former partner with Faye’s Flea Market. She
was a Baptist.
A son, John England “Speedy” Vann, preceded
her in death.
Survivors include husband, James Talmadge Knight,
whom she married March 21, 1969; son Robert Hillis Price, Salisbury; stepson
BillKnight, Woodleaf; daughters Wanda Jane Owens, Pensacola, Fla., and Donna
Miller and Diane Clark, both of Salisbury; stepdaughters Charlotte Nall,

James Edward Melton
EAST SPENCER — James Edward Melton, 76, East
Spencer, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at his home.
Born Nov. 5, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Melton
was a son of the late Arthur and Maybelle Sells Melton. He was a graduate of
Linwood High School.
A member and deacon of Providence Baptist Church,
he retired as a truck driver for Rusher Oil Co., after 20 years. He received a
Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Germany while serving in the U.S. Army
during World War II.
Survivors include half brother Steven Melton,
East Spencer.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Wednesday, National
Cemetery, Salisbury, Statesville Blvd. location, conducted by the Rev. Sy Ponds.

James Norman Moser
KANNAPOLIS — James Norman Moser, 63, 307 Larry
Drive, died Monday (Feb. 26, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Jan. 28, 1938, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Moser
was a son of James A. Moser, Rockwell, and the late Faye Kluttz Moser and the
stepson of Edith Moser of Rockwell. He was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High
School and North Carolina State University.
Employed by Cannon Mills Co. for 25 years, he was
plant manager. He was also an agent with Lutheran Brotherhood for many years
until his retirement in 2000.
He served on the Kannapolis City School Board,
North Carolina Boy Scout Council and was an Eagle Scout and recipient of the
Silver Beaver award. He was a member of Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge 626.
Also a member of Kannapolis Rotary Club, he was
inducted a Paul Harris Fellow.
A member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, he
was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years, president of the church council and
active in various phases of church activities.
In 1969, he was honored as the Kannapolis Jaycees
Young Man of the Year. He had also been a former board member of Hospice
ofCabarrus County and a former member of the Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors, in addition to his father and
stepmother, include wife of 42 years Pat Hahn Moser; son Scott Moser, Charlotte;
daughtersJan Ragan, Mount Pleasant, and Jill Rary, China Grove; brothers Don
Moser, Kannapolis, and Alvin and Joel Moser, both of Rockwell; and six
grandchildren.

Williard Overcash, 79, 510 Morlan Park Road, who died Sunday (Feb. 25, 2001) at
Spencer Healthcare.
Born March 15, 1921, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Overcash was a son of the late Very Edgar Vance and Essie Grady Overcash. He was
educated in the Kannapolis City schools.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during
World War II. He retired as a security guard with Alcoa Co.
Survivors include sons Charles Overcash Jr., Los
Angeles, Calif., and LeRoy Overcash, Mount Holly; daughter Carol Overcash,

Hilda W. Ray, 71, Pinellas Park, Fla., sister of
Edward Wright, Salisbury, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at Hospice Woodside.

Frances P. Trexler
The funeral will be Wednesday for Frances Parker
Trexler, 72, Salisbury, who died Sunday (Feb. 25, 2001) at Rowan Regional
Medical Center after 18 months of declining health and a month of serious
illness.
Born Sept. 25, 1928, in Rowan County, Mrs.
Trexler, a daughter of the late Luther and Mary Jane Wyatt Parker, was educated
in the Rowan County schools. A homemaker, she had earlier worked at Cannon
Mills. She was a member of Union Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Paul Herbert “Hub” Trexler, died
June 17, 2000.
