Ed Dupree’s golf notebook: Spots available for Warrior tournament

The Warrior Golf Club still has openings for its upcoming spring two-man mulligan tournament.

The 36-hole stroke play tourney is scheduled March 10-11 with shotgun starts each day. Teams will be flighted after the first round.

There will also be a 7 a.m. breakfast buffet and Calcutta auction on Sunday.

The entry fee is $100 per team for Warrior members and $150 for non-members. That includes green and cart fees plus the breakfast on Sunday.

Entries are open to the first 64 paid teams.

Gift certificates will be awarded to the top two teams in each flight.

CRESCENT SHOOTOUT: Steven Harvey and Corey Basinger were the big winners in the Crescent Men’s Golf Association 150 Shootout at Crescent Golf Club on Feb. 17.

Harvey took low gross honors with a 56 in the format that had players teeing off from the 150-yard markers. He won $50 in gift certificates.

Basinger, who shot a 57, won low net honors with a 55 and collected $50.

Bob Kimball shot a 60 for second low gross, while Wayne Tate finished third with a 63.

Addison Smith and Linn Safley shared second low net with 58s.

Smith (No. 4) and Dennis Hinz (No. 16) won prizes for shots closest to the pin.

Tate also took over first place on the season points list with 90, while Joe DeRubeis and Harvey are tied for second at 85. Smith is fourth at 75.

The association’s next event will be held March 17.

BENEFIT TOURNEY: The first Aplastic Anemia Golf Tournament will be played at 1:30 p.m. Saturday,March 31 at Corbin Hills Golf Club.

The tournament will benefit Salisbury Police Department officer Matthew Farthing, who has been diagnosed with aplastic anemia. All proceeds will go toward his medical bills.

The entry fee is $160 per team or $40 per person with an entry deadline of March 24.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams and for the longest drive, longest putt and shot closest to the pin on a par-3 hole.

HOLE IN ONES: Donna Moser became the first female to ace a hole at Corbin Hills this year when she hit a 3-wood into the cup on the par-3, 130-yard No. 13 hole from the red tees. She was playing with Darrell Coble and Gina Airheart.

Bobby Whitesides aced the par-3, 120-yard No. 8 hole from the gold tees at Crescent. He used a 9-wood. Jim Burton, Tom Seamon and Bill Seamon were his playing partners.

Bob Bost got his ace on the par-3, 157-yard No. 10 hole at Rolling Hills Golf Club from the white tees. He used a 3-wood. Larry Thomas witnessed the ace.

Kevin Kimball also had a double-eagle 3 at Rolling Hills, hitting a pitching wedge into the cup from 125 yards out on the 423-yard par-5 hole (white tees). He was playing with Michael Powell.
