The Livingstone College men’s basketball team dropped a heart-breaking 95-89 double-overtime decision to Fayetteville State onSaturday night.
The Blue Bears (6-18 overall, 4-11 CIAA) trailed by seven points at halftime before pulling even at the end of regulation. Both squads scored seven points in the first overtime period before the Broncos (14-11, 6-9) pulled away in the second extra period.
The loss ended the Blue Bears’ regular season. CIAA Tournament play begins Monday in Raleigh.
Fayetteville’s Kenny Haywood led all scorers with 34 points, hitting an amazing 15-of-16 field-goal attempts. Equally impressive was teammate Shun Riggins’ 16-for-20 showing from the free-throw line, as the guard finished with 25 points.
Four Blue Bears finished in double figures, led by Sheldon Payne’s 21 points. Shawn Wiseman and Peter Anders each scored 19 points and Rodney Gidney added 15.
Foul trouble took its toll as the game wore on. Livingstone lost Payne, Gidney and point guard Willie Rouse to fifth fouls. The Broncos lost Christon Simmons and Tony Taylor off the bench.
In the women’s game, Livingstone dropped a 72-56 decision as Fayetteville State jumped out to a 39-24 halftime advantage.
In a game marked by woeful shooting, the Lady Blue Bears actually out-shot the Broncos 38 percent to 32 percent from the field. Livingstone finished the first half 6-for-23 (26 percent); Fayetteville State went 9-for 33 (27 percent) in the second half.
Julie Tarrance took advantage of all the misses, grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds. She led Livingstone with 16 points. Shaunici Morgan paced the Broncos with 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. — NemSovic led the way with a game-high 24 points as Pfeiffer’s men downed Coker 81-59 in Carolinas Virginia Athletic Conference basketball here Saturday.
Joining Sovic in double figures were Shakil Brew with 16, Terrance Baxter with 11, and Joe Holmes with 10.
Sovic went 8-for-12 on field goals and 8-9 at the foul line for his 24.
Pfeiffer finished the regular season with a 15-7 CVAC record and a 19-7 overall mark. The Falcons will play in the CVAC Tournament this week.
Coker, which dropped to 9-17 and 6-16, was led by Derrick Brown and Herb Hunter with 17 and 12 points, respectively.
Pfeiffer’s women won 66-53 in the first game of the doubleheader. The Falcons closed the regular season 16-10 overall and 15-7 in the CVAC.
Shannon Reid led the winners with 15 points, while Jessica Wilber scored 14.
Coker (2-23, 2-20) was paced by Chanda Brooker with 10.
