ALBEMARLE — Gurtha Faulkner
Ragsdale Clark, 89, 625 Bethany Road, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at Stanly
Manor.
Born Jan. 25, 1912, in Anson
County, she was the daughter of the late Hampton and Permiller Louvenia Thomas
Faulkner. Mrs. Clark was employed at Wiscassett Hosiery Mill. She was a charter
member of God’s Church.
Mrs. Clark was preceded in death
by husbands Tero W. Ragsdale and David C. Clark.
Survivors include son Curtis G.
Ragsdale of Albemarle; daughter Darthy R. Loy of Salisbury; stepson Edward Clark
of Siler City; stepdaughter Ruth Brown of Albemarle; brother Arlie Faulkner of
Albemarle; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Home, led by the Rev. Frank Thompson. Burial at Fairview Memorial Park.

Juanita S. Clayborn
Juanita Surratt Clayborn, 50,
1304 Old Plank Road, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at her residence after being
seriously ill for several months.
Born Sept. 26, 1950, in Concord,
she was the daughter of William and Clara Cooper Surratt of Concord. Educated at
Logan High School in Concord, she also attended nursing school. She was last
employed at Haleysville Drap-eries. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist
Church.
Survivors include husband Walter
“Walt” Clayborn; daughter Cynthia Huntley of Salisbury; foster son Shamari
Spears of Salisbury; brothers Jerry Surratt of Brentwood, Tenn., and Bruce
Surratt of Opelika, Ala., sister Caroly Parks of Concord; and two grandchildren
reared in the home, Juanita Huntley and Cenquarius Lawking, both of Salisbury.

Arthur James Craker, 71,
Salisbury, died Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord.
Born May 5, 1929, in Sanilac
County, Mich., he was the son of the late Lee Roy and Mina M. Williamson
Cracker. He was educated in the schools of Syracuse, N.Y. A self-employed
carpenter, he remodeled homes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include wife Adalaide
“Addy” Craker, whom he married May 5, 1990; stepsons Bud Loura and Glenn
Croop, both of Central Square, N.Y., and Ralph Loura of Sundale Calif.;
stepdaughter Cindy Cook of Mexico, N.Y.; and four step-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at
Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, led by the Rev. George Bradshaw, pastor of Pine
Ridge Baptist Church. The body will be cremated.

Nola Harris Malcolm
MOORESVILLE — Nola Harris
Malcolm, 86, Saddle Road, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at her residence.
Born Nov. 24, 1914, in Iredell
County, she was the daughter of the late Elias and Mary Calliher Harris. Mrs.
Malcolm was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she
taught Sunday school.
She was preceded in death by
husband Clarence Eugene Malcolm and two daughters.
Survivors include sons Charles H.
Malcolm and Wendell E. Malcolm, both of Mooresville; daughters Blanche M. Stroud
and Barbara M. Greer, both of Statesville, and Janet M. Fulbright and Carolyn M.
Dockerly, both of Mooresville; brothers William C. Harris and Lonnie Harris,
both of Harmony; sister Daisy H. Warren of Statesville; 22 grandchildren; 44
great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren.

Friendship Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Junnie Milam and the Rev. David
Troutman. Burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Troutman.

Lula B. Murray
CONCORD — Lula Blackwelder
Murray, 83, 2136 Barr Road, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at NorthEast Medical
Center.
Born Feb. 23, 1918, in Cabarrus
County, she was the daughter of the late Joshua Columbus and Betty Haynes
Blackwelder. Mrs. Murray had retired in 1980 after 37 years of service with
Cannon Mills, Plant 1, Kannapolis, No. 1 weave room. She was a member of Center
United Methodist Church.
Her husband, John Lander Murray,
died May 27, 1996.
Survivors include daughters
Johnsie Kee of Concord and Margaret Ann Trull of New Smyna Beach, Fla.; brother
J.C. Blackwelder of Charlotte; half sisters Bernice Sides and Edith Bost, both
of Kannapolis, Dorothy Stone of Virginia and Mary Moore of Concord; half brother
Robert Downum of Concord; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.

James Franklin Sain II
James “Jim” Franklin Sain II,
76, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at his home in Salisbury.
Born March 25, 1924, in Davie
County, he was the son of the late and James Franklin and Mary Addie Byerly Sain.
He was educated in the Davie County schools. A veteran of World War II, he
served with the U.S. Army Air Corps and the military police. Mr. Sain had
retired after 37 years with Norfolk-Southern Railway as a car foreman.
He was a member of Calvary
Lutheran Church in Spencer, where he was active in Lutheran Men in Mission and
the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class. A former Boy Scout leader, he served as
church coordinator for the Meals on Wheels program. He was also a member of the
Spencer Masonic Lodge, the Rowan Shrine Club and Harold B. Jarrett American
Legion Post.
Survivors include wife Mary
Swicegood Sain, whom he married April 6, 1944; son James F. Sain III of Kinston;
daughter Linda S. Bradley of Eatonton, Ga.; and one grandson.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at
Calvary Lutheran Church in Spencer, led by the Rev. Ralph Kraft, pastor. Burial
at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, with military rites by the Rowan County
Veterans Council.

at Lyerly Funeral Home.
