Hayden W. Anderson
MOCKSVILLE — Hayden W. Anderson, 79, Richie
Road, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at his home.
Born March 17, 1921, in Davie County, he was the
son of the late Jessie Walker and William F. Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a
self-employed landscaper and a member of the Church of Christ at North Main.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara
Anderson.
Survivors include sons Arnold and Alan Anderson,
both of Mocksville, Doug Anderson of Kernersville and Randy Anderson of
Winston-Salem; daughter Judy A. Brinkley; stepson Patrick Austin of Mocksville;
stepdaughter Renee Potts of Mocksville; brothers Wayne Anderson of
Winston-Salem, Jim Anderson of Kissimmee, Fla., and Bruce Anderson of
Mocksville; sisters Wilma Danner of Mocksville, Joyce Goodman of Winston-Salem
and Margaret Boger of Mocksville; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Church of Christ at
North Main, led by the Rev. Greg Elrod. Burial at Jericho Church of Christ.

Service Chapel.
Lucy Neilson Ball
MOUNT ULLA — Lucy Neilson Ball, 62, 240 Warren
Drive, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center,
Mooresville.
Survivors include husband Gurney Ball; son Jed
Lee Ball, Troutman; daughters Amy Scarboro and Mendee Ball, both of Mount Ulla;
brothers Robert Neilson, Troutman, Richard Neilson, Olin, and David Neilson,
Mooresville; sisters Betty Ingle, Mount Mourne, Nancy Holland, Olin, and Debbie
Hayes, Granite Falls; and six grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. today, Iredell Memorial Gardens,
conducted by the Rev. Dr. Doris Weddington.

Shirley ‘Sissy’ Davis
Shirley Hamilton “Sissy” Davis, 41, 525 Peach
Orchard Lane, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center,
Concord, of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born Aug. 9, 1959, in Stanly County, she was the
daughter of Mildred Hubbard Hamilton of Albemarle and the late Rev. Lonnie June
Hamilton. She was educated at West Stanly High School in Oakboro.
Mrs. Davis was an employee of Shortgen Hosiery
Mill in Concord. She was a member in her youth at the Galilee Baptist Church and
later joined New Parker’s Grove Baptist Church in Oakboro, where she served as
president of the Usher’s Board and sang in the Gospel Choir. She was currently
affiliated with the United Christian Fellowship in Salisbury.
Survivors include husband James H. “Tootsie”
Davis of Sanford; son Barry Dale Davis of Charlotte; daughters Shanta Neka Davis
of Charlotte and Quanta Noshay Davis of Albemarle; brothers Willie Hamilton of
Charlotte, Charles Hamilton and Jesse Hamilton, both of Albemarle, Ernest
Hamilton of Oakboro, Amos Hamilton of Asheville and Randy Hamilton of Badin;
sisters Loretta Harris, Emma Jean Broadway, Judy Tibbs and Shelia Huntley, all
of Albemarle, and Sandra Ellerby of Wadesboro.

‘Jimmy’ Harris
James Edward “Jimmy” Harris, 43, 525 Carolina
Blvd., died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at the Hefner VA Medical Center after one
month of illness.
Born Dec. 14, 1957, in Rowan County, he was the
son of Hattie Morris Harris of Salisbury and the late Robert Harris. Educated at
Salisbury High School, he was employed by N.C. Finishing Co. He was a veteran of
the U.S. Army.
A son, Edward Tremeine “Pete” Harris, died
March 14, 1992.
Survivors include wife Marie Swann Harris;
brother Terry Morris of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters Brenda Tucker of East
Spencer, Cathy Kerns and Rosalind Harris, both of Anchorage, Alaska, Barbara
Williams of California and Gloria “Michael” Bost of Salisbury; and 10
grandchildren.

Edna Davenport Hinson
ALBEMARLE — Edna Leone Davenport Hinson, 76,
Albemarle, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Oct. 12, 1924, in Mecklenburg County, she
was the daughter of the late Mary Edith and Plato Wilson Davenport.
Retired as a nurse at Stanly Memorial Hospital,
Mrs. Hinson was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. She was a
graduate of Paw Creek High School and Presbyterian School of Nursing, both of
Charlotte.
Survivors include son Dr. Tony R. Hinson of
Concord, sisters Doris Cathey and Betty Coleman, both of Charlotte, Rillma
Huffstickler of Stanley and Jeanette Counts of Denver, N.C.; and brother Joe C.
Davenport of Columbia, S.C.

Bingham Ardell Hunt
BALTIMORE — Bingham ‘Bing’ Ardell Hunt, 80,
died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) in Baltimore.
Born Dec. 23, 1921, in Mooresville, N.C., Mr.
Hunt grew up in Landis, N.C.. He was the son of the late Annie Vernet Crisco and
Dan Ray Hunt.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
In 1952, he joined the Baltimore Police Department, where he served as an
“officer friendly,” responsible for educating children about the department.
He also served with the Police Boys Club during the summer months.
Mr. Hunt was a member of the Police Retired
Benevolent Association; the Maryland Law Enforcement Officers; Dundalk Moose
Lodge 1228, where he served as secretary, administrator and governor; and Union
Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Boumi Temple, Union 60.
Survivors include son Steven Blane Hunt, daughter
Robyn Cheryl Nierwienski, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mabel Jacobi
KANNAPOLIS — Mabel Jones Jacobi, 89, 1803 N.
Cannon Blvd., died Wednesday at Britthaven of Kannapolis.
Born Nov. 17, 1911, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Jacobi
was a daughter of the late John M. and Senia Bradley Jones. She had retired from
the U.S. Department of the Navy.
Her husband, Jack Jacobi, preceded her in death.

Harold L. Rodgers
KANNAPOLIS — Harold Lawson Rodgers, 715 Margate
Ave., died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Aug. 15, 1924, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Rodgers was a son of the late Walter Calvin and Ethel Canup Rodgers. He served
in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Formerly employed at Cannon Mills, Plant 1. No. 1
spinning room, he later owned and operated the former Rodgers Grocery and
Service for many years. He attended Pleasant Avenue Freewill Baptist Church.
A son, Jeffrey N. Rodgers, preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife Ileana Potts Rodgers; son
Steven Harold Rodgers, Kannapolis; daughter Carol Foutz, Kannapolis; brother
Calvin Rodgers, Kannapolis; sisters Catherine Wentz, Concord, and Lucille Moss,
Kannapolis; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three
step-grandchildren.

Ruby Sillmon Tarleton
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Monday for
Ruby Sillmon Tarleton, 85, formerly of 1412 Cooper Ave., who died Monday (Feb.
19, 2001) in Austin,Texas, where she made her home with daughter Janis Bryant.
Born March 22, 1915, in Guilford County, Mrs.
Tarleton was a daughter of the late John and Kate Peninger Sillmon. Retired from
Cannon Mills, Plant 1, No. 7 weave room, she was a member of Midway United
Methodist Church.
Her husband, John Sebron Tarleton, died May 25,
1991.
Survivors include another daughter Julie Fureigh,
Greenbrier, Ark.; sons Randall Tarleton, Kannapolis, and Michael Tarleton,
Louisville, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS — Ada “Rusty” Bowers York, 73,
1920 Lindell Road, Richmond, Va., formerly of Kannapolis, died Wednesday (Feb.
21, 2001) at Health South Medical Center in Richmond.
Born Feb. 4, 1928, in Stanly County, Mrs. York
was a daughter of the late John W. and Ottis Hopkins Bowers. She had retired
from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Survivors include husband Albert E. York; sons
Larry S. York, Midlothian, Va., and Richard A. York, Bethesda, Md.; sister Lola
Baker, Kannapolis; brother Harry Bowers, Greensboro; and one granddaughter.
