Mary Frances Correll

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Sunday for Mary Frances Correll, 77, 1603 Eastwood Drive, who died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after four days of serious illness.

Born Dec. 2, 1923, in Kannapolis, Mrs. Correll, a daughter of the late Hubert K. and Laura Garver Overcash, was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Survivors include husband Dr. Earl E. Correll; daughters Cindy Leggett, Mooresville, and Tara Rhoades, China Grove; sons Kelly and Gene Correll, both of Kannapolis; sisters Kathleen O. Ridenhour, Kannapolis, and Clara O.Vanderford, Mooresville; brother H. Kenneth Overcash, Kannapolis; and eight grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Donald L. Shuman, pastor, and Kirk D. Sams of Kannapolis Church of Christ. Entombment, Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Eastwood Drive.

Edna Freeman Eaton

COOLEEMEE — Edna Freeman Eaton, 95, Pine Ridge Road, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.

Born Sept. 23, 1905, in Rowan County, Mrs. Eaton was a daughter of the late Sanford and Cora Gales Freeman. She was a homemaker and a member of Cooleemee First Baptist Church.

Her husband, Gordon Eaton, died in 1957.

Survivors include daughter Millie E. Modlin, Mocksville; and sister Ruby Williams, Mocksville.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Saturday, Rowan Memorial Park,Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Wayne E. Sterling.

Visitation: None.

Eaton Funeral Home, Mocksville, is in charge.

Lottie Lyerly Honbarger

Lottie Lyerly Honbarger, 96, Salisbury, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation after four months of declining health.

Born June 16, 1904, in Rowan County, Mrs. Honbarger, a daughter of the late Arthur Amandus and Angie Bostian Lyerly, was educated in the Rowan County schools and was a homemaker. A lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, she was a member of WELCA.

Her husband, John Luther Honbarger, died May 14, 1974.

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. William Ketchie. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of nephew Don Lyerly of Salisbury.

Lewis Edward Jones

MOCKSVILLE — Lewis Edward Jones, 71, U.S. Hwy. 601 N., died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at his home.

Born July 27, 1929, in Davie County, Mr. Jones, a son of the late Paul and Annie Draughn Jones, was a 1947 graduate of Davie High School.

He retired from J.P. Green Milling Co. after 10 years. Former owner/operator of Jones Sawmilling, he was also former chief deputy of Davie County Sheriffs Office and had been a driver with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

He was a charter member of North Ruritan and William R. Davie Fire Department. A member of Bear Creek Baptist Church, he served on the board of trustees and the pastor selection committee.

Survivors include wife Estie Miller Jones, Kernersville; son Ed Jones, Eden; daughters Leigh J. Yarbrough, Kernersville, and Lynn J.Lane, Sparta; brothers Bobby Jones, Mocksville, and Gerald Jones, Stockbridge, Ga.; sisters Irma Jean Shelton and Shirley Rollins, both of Mocksville, and Betty Cates, Houston,Texas; and six grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Bear Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Cecil Wetherholt and the Rev. Richard Eskew. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Eaton Funeral Home.

Ardath Lambert Lowder

ALBEMARLE — Ardath LambertLowder, 72, 1426 Hilltop St., died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Sweet Home Baptist Church.Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Hilltop Street.

 

Mary King Brown Moss

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for Mary King Brown Moss, 97, formerly of 1506 N. Ridge Ave., who died Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001) at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury after two years of declining health.

Born June 14, 1903, in Catawba County, Mrs. Moss was a daughter of the late Zennie Yancy and Lunda Licene Baker Brown. She graduated from Sherrills Ford School in 1925 and completed teacher training at Farm Life School in 1926 and attended Appalachian State Teachers College, Boone.

She began her teaching career at Sherrills Ford in 1926, where she taught until she was married June 3, 1933, to Ira Cullen Moss, then moving to Kannapolis. Employed at Cannon Mills’ Cabarrus Mill until her husband’s death in 1947, she returned to school to earn a teaching certificate, and then taught at China Grove Elementary School until her retirement.

A member of Hopewell Methodist Church since the age of 12, she started teaching Sunday school when she was 14. She moved her membership to Trinity Methodist Church, Kannapolis, in 1933 and began teaching a class there.

Elected children’s division superintendent, she served in that position for 42 years and was elected coordinator of children’s ministries in the Salisbury District for 16 years. She was active with the Methodist Women, Spiritual Life, Evangelism, Board of Stewards and other phases of church activities.

President of the North Kannapolis Home Extension Club for seven years and secretary for six years, she also did sewing for Social Services and Hefner VAMedical Center.

Survivors include sisters Bertie Cornelius, China Grove, Helen Barbee, Martinez, Ga., and Lorene Watson, Tupelo, Miss.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev.Don Shuman and SarahWeaver.Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 12-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home.
