Dillon James Aldridge

CHINA GROVE — Dillon James Aldridge, infant son of Billy James Aldridge and Gina Rene Hartsell, 105 Dogwood Estates, died Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001)at his home.

The infant was born Dec. 13, 2000, in Cabarrus County.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include paternal grandparents David and Patricia Aldridge, Salisbury; maternal grandparents Charles and Betty Hartsell, Mount Pleasant; and paternal great-grandmother Dolly Moffitt, China Grove.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Friday, West Lawn Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Utley and the Rev. Mike Harreson.

Visitation: The family will be at the home of David and Patricia Aldridge, 675 Overcash Road, Salisbury.

Whitley’s Funeral Home,Kannapolis, is in charge.

 

Imogene Smith Biddix

Imogene Smith Biddix, 88, of Lexington, formerly of Salisbury, died Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001) at Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks after a year of declining health.

Born March 5, 1912, in Murphy, Mrs. Biddix, a daughter of the late Burton Lester and Tishie Moss Smith, was educated in the Clay County schools. She retired from Parkdale Mills after 30 years of service and was a member of Parkdale Baptist Church.

Her husband, Fred Thomas Biddix, died June 20, 1987, and a son, Ralph Putmon, died Oct. 20, 1986.

Survivors include daughter Mickey Surratt, Lexington; sister Maggie Davidson, Murphy; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Friday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Bill Huffman, pastor, Parkdale Baptist Church.

Visitation: None. The family will be at the home of Mickey Surratt.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

James R. Henderson

ASHEVILLE — James R. Henderson, 78, Asheville, father of John Henderson, Mocksville, died Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001) at his home.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Asheville. Burial, Western North Carolina State Veterans’ Cemetery, Black Mountain.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Williams Funeral Service.

Memorials: ABCCM, 24 Cumberland Ave., Asheville, NC 28801.

 

 

Fred H. Kincaid

KANNAPOLIS — Fred H. Kincaid, 74, 700 Packard Ave., died Tuesday (Feb. 20, 2001)at W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Feb. 1, 1927, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Kincaid was a son of the late Ralph and Virgie Cox Kincaid. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he also served with the U.S. Army and Merchant Marines.

He was a former truck driver with Johnson Motor Lines and later worked and retired as a security guard at Fieldcrest-Cannon with Wackenhut Security. He was a lifetime member of VFW Poston-Perkins Post 8989.

Survivors include wife Dorothy Clontz Kincaid; sons Larry Kincaid, Oklahoma, Johnny Kincaid, Las Vegas, Nev., and Jeffrey Kincaid, Kannapolis; stepdaughter Nancy Beaver, Kannapolis; stepson Scott Dellinger, Rockwell; brother Carl “Mickey” Kincaid, Kannapolis; sisters Joann McReynolds, San Antonio, Texas, and Marie Jackson, Kannapolis; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: Private graveside service Friday at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home at Packland Avenue.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.

 

Garland Ezell Lawing

KANNAPOLIS — Garland Ezell “Shorty” Lawing, 81, 2106 Englewood St., died Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001) at Five Oaks Nursing Center.

Born Oct. 8, 1919, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Lawing was a son of the late Earnest and Bertha Queen Lawing. He retired from Cannon Mills Co.’s overhauling department after 43 years of service.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Concord.

His first wife, Virginia Lawing, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Mary Lee Karriker Lawing; daughter Savilla James, Kannapolis; son David Lawing, Washington; stepdaughter Sylvia Hill, Kannapolis; brother the Rev. L.E. Lawing, Kannapolis; sister Caroline Phillips, Kannapolis; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Lisa Anderson. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home of Sylvia Hill at 509 Queensgate Drive.

Natina Marie Mills

The funeral will be Friday for Natina Marie Mills, seven-months-old, 37 Kesler St., daughter of Reginald and Morgan L. Smith, who died Monday (Feb. 19, 2001) at her home.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday at New Life Baptist Church, Concord, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Steele, pastor. Burial, church cemetery.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Fred Savage

The funeral will be Friday for Fred Savage, 86, Tarboro, formerly of Dunham Avenue, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Feb. 20, 2001) at Tarboro Nursing Center, Tarboro, after a period of declining health.

Born Nov. 30, 1914, in Van Wyke, S.C., Mr. Savage, a son of the late J.T. and Ida Jane Greenway Savage, was educated in the Georgia schools.

In earlier years he worked as a conductor for Southern Railroad, until he retired due to ill health. He later worked at Fiber Industries, now KoSa. He was of the United Methodist faith.

A daughter, Judy Savage Head, preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife Ruby Ree Galloway Savage, whom he married June 7, 1934; son Fred Michael Savage, Bailey; daughters Ethelene Savage Baity, Newport News, Va., and Betty Savage Williams, Bailey; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Friday, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Bill Rintz, pastor, Midway United Methodist Church, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Friday, Lyerly Funeral Home.

 

 

Dorothy F. Smith

WOODLEAF — Dorothy Freeman Smith, 79, 3640 Needmore Road, died Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001) at Davis Regional Medical Center, Statesville.

Born Feb. 4, 1922, in Rowan County, Mrs.Smith, a daughter of the late Radford and Grace Young Freeman, was a retired beautician. She was a member of Corinth Church of Christ.

Her husband, John R. Smith, died Oct. 26, 1988, and a son, Thetus Smith, died in 1993.

Survivors include sister Vetra Reep, Mocksville.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Friday, Corinth Church of Christ cemetery, conducted by Tim Pinkston.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, Statesville, is in charge.
