Leida Mary Grimmett

The funeral was Monday for Leida Mary Grimmett, 87, Carillon Assisted Living, formerly of Elyria, Ohio, who died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Born Feb. 22, 1913, in Bruce, W.Va., Mrs. Grimmett was a daughter of the late David and Fonda Wills Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of North Main Baptist Church.

Her husband, Murray M. Grimmett, died April 22, 1960, and a daughter, Mary Field, died Nov. 16, 1989. She was also preceded in death by a grandson.

Survivors include son Ray Grimmett, Forest Lakes, Ariz.; daughters Louise Carter, Spencer, and Doris King, Elyria, Ohio; sisters Gay Lipps, Mount Nebo, W.Va., and Pauline Sutphin, Interlachen, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were held 2 p.m. Monday at Wallace &Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, W.Va., conducted by the Rev. Garlin Groves. Burial was at Spruce Grove Cemetery, Mount Nebo, W.Va.

The family received friends on Feb. 11.

 

‘Sue’ Fesperman Hall

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Wednesday for Sudie “Sue” Fesperman Hall, 77, Rockwell, who died Sunday (Feb. 18, 2001) at her home.

Born Aug. 18, 1923, in Stanly County, Mrs. Hall, a daughter of the late Jessie Alfred and Cora Lee Henley Fesperman, was educated at Mount Pleasant High School and Evans Business College, Charlotte. She retired as credit manager from Normans of Salisbury.

An active member of Ursinus United Church, she was a Sunday school teacher, youth advisor and president of the church women, who presented her a life membership in 1985. She was a member of the Joy Club and was involved with the merging of the Reformed Churches into the United Church of Christ.

Also active in numerous civic and professional organizations, she was a charter member of Rockwell Women’s Club and Pilots Club and a member of Inter-Civic Council, Career Club, Credit Women International, Rockwell Community Organization. Past president of the Rockwell Young at Heart Club, she helped organize Brownie and Girl Scout troops in Rockwell and was director of the Girl Scout Council.

She was active in the Rockwell and East Rowan High School PTA and was an advisor for the Teen Club of Rockwell.

She held both local and state offices in the Association of Credit Women and was named a Local Woman of Achievement during National Business Women’s Week. She was a member of the T.L.C. Group of Powles Funeral Home.

Her husband, Marvin W. “Bill” Hall, died Aug. 28, 1985, and a son, Gary W. Hall, died May 19, 1998.

Survivors include daughter Gail H. Greenwood, Houston, Texas; brother James O. Henley, Hemett, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m .Wednesday, Ursinus United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Jim Staunton, pastor, and the Rev. Guy Fisher, former pastor. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Powles Funeral Home.

Memorials: Ursinus United Church of Christ, Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 175, Rockwell, NC 28138.

 

Natina Marie Mills

Natina Marie Mills, seven-month-old daughter of Reginald and Morgan L. Smith, 37 Kesler St., died Monday (Feb. 19, 2001) at her home.

The infant was born July 14, 2000, in Salisbury.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include brothers Ragi Mills and Reginald Mills Jr., both of the home, and Demariae Campbell, Mooresville; sister Rosetta Smitherson, Mooresville; maternal grandmother Nina Smith,Salisbury; maternal grandfather Craig Herbin, Jamestown, N.Y.; paternal grandmother Bessie Coble, Kannapolis; paternal grandfather Robert Smith, Mooresville; maternal great-grandparents Carl and Inez Smith, Kannapolis; maternal great-grandfather Clyde Herbin, Burlington; and paternal great-grandmother Tecola Moore, Mooresville.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Charles M. Parker

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Charles Madison Parker, 69, 201 Dalewood Ave., who died Monday (Feb. 19, 2001) at his home.

Born Aug. 16, 1931, in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Parker was a son of the late Dwight L. and Margaret Hurt Parker. He retired from Fieldcrest Vending Services.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served in Japan from 1950-1954.

Survivors include wife Eva Hardy Parker; daughters Kelley Hiller, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Marilyn Stauter, Kannapolis; sister Marilyn Withers, Marietta, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Dalewood Avenue.

Memorials: American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 928, Concord, NC 28026-0928.
