Arthur ‘Steve’ Amick
HIGH POINT — Arthur Stephen “Steve” Amick,
50, 120 Briggs Place, died Saturday (Feb. 17, 2001).
Born July 11, 1950, in Guilford County, Mr. Amick
was a son of Jean Weekly Amick, High Point, and the late Rev. Alvin Amick. He
was a resident of Rowan County for many years, while his father served as pastor
at Rowan United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of South Rowan High School
and attended Pfeiffer University.
He was employed by D. W. Griffin Wrecking Co. in
Greensboro and was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include
wife Allison Amick, Julian; son Daniel Amick, Julian; brothers Victor Amick,
Greensboro, Kent Amick, Eden, Chris Amick, Thomasville, Alex Amick, Archdale,
Martin Amick, High Point, and Kelly Amick, Asheboro; sisters Karen Clark,
Greensboro, Rebecca Candler, High Point, and Andrea Buskirk, Madison; and
grandmother Fannie Weekly, High Point.

Samuel Elliott Clark
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be held Tuesday
for Samuel Elliott Clark, 63, formerly of 1985 Mount Hope Church Road, who died
Saturday (Feb. 17, 2001) at Brightmoor Nursing Center, Salisbury, after a year
and a half of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Born July 24, 1937, in Lancaster County, S.C.,
Mr. Clark was a son of the late Smith Elmore and Jesie Blackmon Clark. Employed
by Bitsy Bakery in Kannapolis for many years, he was a member of Blackwelder
Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Loree T. Clark; daughters
Kristie Warr, Salisbury, and Sandy Clark, China Grove; stepdaughters Cherrie
Fink, Salisbury, and Breta Millard, Texas; sisters Shirley Player and Peggy
Bowers, both of South Carolina; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.

James C. Hill
KANNAPOLIS — James C. Hill, 66, of Kannapolis,
died Saturday (Feb. 17, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, as the
result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Sept. 19, 1934, in Kannapolis, Mr. Hill was
a son of the late Caleb Groome and Grace Hill. A 1953 graduate of A. L. Brown
High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving for three years in
England and Germany.
Mr. Hill had retired as a senior technician at
Lucent Technologies in Huntersville, formerly AT&T Western Electric, where
he had been employed for 36 years. He had also previously been employed with
Douglas Aircraft, Charlotte.
A lifetime member of the Kannapolis Church of
God, he had served as youth activities director, senior high superintendent. He
was also a choir member.
He was a member of Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge
and the United Commercial Travelers Club.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Patricia
Hill; daughter Crystal Combs, Monroe; brothers John P. Hill, Kannapolis, and
Joel T. Hill, Sewanee, Ga.; and two granddaughters.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Kannapolis Church of
God, conducted by the Rev. Sam Crisp. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, with
Masonic graveside rites conducted by the Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge.

Luther Creamer Jr.
LEXINGTON — The funeral will be Tuesday for
Luther Creamer Jr., 76, 214 B. Booker St., who died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at
Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 4, 1924, in Shelby, Mr. Creamer was a
son of the late Bessie Haynes Creamer Curry and Luther Creamer and the stepson
of the late Rufus Curry. He had retired from United Furniture and was a veteran
of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
Survivors include daughters Elizabeth Faye Mays,
Jacqueline C. Kennedy and Yolanda A. Carmille, all of Lexington, and Linda C.
Dehe of Mississippi; and six grandchildren.

Frank B. Gilbreth Jr.
CHARLESTON, S.C. —Frank B. Gilbreth Jr.,
best-selling author and longtime columnist for The Post and Courier, died
Sunday. He was 89.
Gilbreth and his sister collaborated in writing
“Cheaper by the Dozen,” their story of growing up in a family of 12 children
with “efficiency expert” parents. Gilbreth went on to write several more
books.
He was the retired assistant publisher of The
Post and Courier and vice president of Evening Post Publishing Co.

Harold Ray Hutchins
Harold Ray Hutchins, 74, Salisbury, died Sunday
(Feb. 18, 2001), at Rowan Regional Medical Center following a two-week illness.
Born Aug. 3, 1926, in Rowan County, Mr. Hutchins
was a son of the late William Hillary and Bertha Mae Taylor Hutchens. Educated
in the Rowan County schools, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was
employed by Southern Railway and Norfolk Southern Railroad for 39 years before
retiring.
He was a member of Harold B. Jarrett American
Legion Post 342 and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include sons Robert Harold Hutchins,
Wilmington, David Ray Hutchins, Hickory, and Randall Morgan Hutchins,
Greensboro; daughters Bonnie Hutchins Hill, Gold Hill, and Patricia Hutchins

John ‘Whitey’ Shoe
CHINA GROVE — John Marvin “Whitey” Shoe,
81, 1726 N. Main Street, died Saturday (Feb. 17, 2001) at Wake Forest University
Baptist Medical Center.
Born Aug. 7, 1919, in Rowan County, Mr. Shoe was
a son of the late John David and Ollie Wilhelm Shoe. He was educated in Rowan
County schools and retired from Cannon Mills dye department. He was also a
carpenter.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where
he was on the property committee. He was also a member of VFW Post 8989, where
he was honored as the 1996 Rowan County Veteran of the Year, and was a member of
American Legion Post 185.
Survivors include wife Ruth Snider Shoe;
daughters Linda S. Brinkley, Kannapolis, and Joyce S. Lane, Kernersville; four
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

was a son of the late Claude Lee and Ruby Mariene Burris Smith. Educated in the
New London schools, he had retired as a shipping clerk at Wiscassett Mills.
