Paul Taylor Currin

CONCORD —Paul Taylor Currin, 79, 290 S. Circle Drive, NW, died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at his residence.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Thomas Donald Lovette

Thomas Donald Lovette, 66, 308 Sowers Ferry Road, died Friday (Feb. 16, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born July 26, 1934, in High Point, Mr. Lovette was a son of Reuben Lester Lovette, Carolina Beach and the late Ruby Woolard Lovette. Mr. Lovette served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He attended Rowan Technical College, now Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, and earned an associate degree. He was a maintenance supervisor at N.C. Finishing Co. for more than 30 years and was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church, the Spencer Moose Lodge and the Spencer Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include wife Gaynell Hopkins Lovette, whom he married Nov. 3, 1958; sons the Rev. Donnie Lovette, Matthews and Monty Lovette, Salisbury; daughter Sherry L. Morgan, Salisbury; brothers R.L. Lovette, Carolina Beach, and Charles “Buck” Lovette, Cornelius; sisters Peggy Hughes, Denton, Gladys Holmes, Lexington, Nancy Bracey, Holden Beach, and Connie Tracy, Wilmington; and six grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Monday, Summersett Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Gene Swinson, Graceway Church, Augusta, Ga. and the Rev. Donnie Lovette, Hartis Grove Baptist Church, Indian Trail. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Billy Monroe Nantz

MOCKSVILLE — Billy Monroe Nantz, 42, Highway 64 West, died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Statesville.

Born Nov. 2, 1958, in Iredell County, Mr. Nantz was a son of Johnny M. and Phyllis Winecoff Nantz, of Mocksville. Mr. Nantz formerly worked as a restaurant manager.

In addition to his parents, survivors include son Jonathon Nantz, Rocky Mount; daughter Jacqueline Nantz, Rocky Mount; brother Rodney D. Nantz, Mocksville; and sister Cindy A. Nantz, Charlotte.

Services:2 p.m. Sunday, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, conducted by the Rev. Randy Crowell. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville.

Visitation:7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

William Howard Story

KANNAPOLIS —William Howard Story, 92, 116 Newell Ave., died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at his residence.

Born March 8, 1908, in Watauga County, Mr. Story was a son of the late Thomas Lincoln and Minnie Hodges Story. He retired after 32 years in the machine shop at Cannon Mills Plant 1.

Mr. Story was preceded in death by four children, Brice, Leonard and Russell Story and Nellie Story James.

Survivors include wife Velma Story; daughters Gail S. Wilhelm and Louise S. Parrish, both of Kannapolis; sons Wade and C.V. Story, both of Kannapolis; brother Ross Story, China Grove; 30 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Lady’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Willis Parrish. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation:5-7 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

 

Roger Dale Sutton Jr.

ROCKWELL — Roger Dale Sutton Jr., 27, 285 Phaniels Church Road, died Friday (Feb. 16, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born June 16, 1973, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Sutton was a son of Roger Dale Sutton, Rockwell, and Sally Johnson Salamanchuk, Kannapolis. He was employed for several years as a dry wall finish carpenter with Holt Dry Wall, Salisbury.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include sister Carlene McCreary, Rockwell; paternal grandmother Dorothy Sutton, Rockwell; paternal great-grandmother Viola Rice, Mount Pleasant; stepfather Nick Salamanchuk, Kannapolis; step-grandmother Annie Salamanchuk, Kannapolis; stepsisters Sherry Porter, Harrisburg, and Lisa Aldridge, Mount Pleasant.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Sam Whittington. Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation: 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
