Earl Wilburn Britt

The funeral will be Friday for Earl Wilbur Britt, 67, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 21, 1933, in Elizabethton, Tenn., Mr. Britt was a son of the late Josephine Markland Britt and Monta Stewart Britt and the stepson of Ida Flores, Adarin, Mich. He was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, Elizabethton, and served in the U.S. Marine Corp.

Employed by Sperry-Rand in Tennessee for 10 years, he later worked for 23 years with Daniel’s Construction Co. He retired, due to ill health, from Reel-Reel Corp.

A Baptist, he was a 32 Degree Mason with Watauga Lodge 622, Watauga, Tenn. He was also with Scottish Rites and the Oasis Shrine Temple in Charlotte.

Survivors include wife Ronelle Howard Britt; sons Rickey E. Britt, Fort Myers, Fla., and Monta E. Britt, Foley, Ala.; daughter Billie Speas, Cleveland; stepdaughters Patsy Freeman, Salisbury, and Peggy Corriher, Cleveland; brother Tommy R. Britt, Foley, Ala.; half brother Carl Van Britt, Shelby; sisters Barbara Hyder, Elizabethton, Tenn., Alice Brandon, Pototoc, Miss., and Jean Hall, Hackleburg, Ala.; half sisters Betty Fox, Linda Johnson and Virginia Penney, all of Michigan; three grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Friday, National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Don Newman, pastor, Gay’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Military rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 12:30-2 p.m. Friday, Summersett Funeral Home.

Faye Deal Brooks

LANDIS — Faye Deal Brooks, 83, formerly of Zion Street, died Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2001) at Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home.

Born Feb. 21, 1917, in Alexander County, Mrs. Brooks was a daughter of the late Jim Blaine and Julia Harrington Deal. She retired several years ago the sewing room at Cannon Mills Plant 1, Kannapolis. An active member of Lakewood Baptist Church, Kannapolis, she was active with the Gleaner’s Club at Cannon Memorial YMCA.

Her husband, Tracy Earl Brooks, died Feb. 15, 1976.

Survivors include sons Tony Brooks, Landis, and Larry Joe “Joey” Brooks, Kannapolis; sisters Lucille D. Bowles, Kannapolis, and Virginia D. Bowles, Troutman; brothers Elboyd and Glenn Deal, both of Kannapolis; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Lakewood Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert D. Howard. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home of Troy Brooks, 815 Dial St.

John Snuggs Efird

ALBEMARLE — John Snuggs Efird, 86, 24724 N.C. Hwy. 52 S., died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Albemarle Lutheran Nursing Home.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Friday, Fairview Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. John W. Futterer.

Visitation: None

Hartsell Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Marlon Darnell Ellis

The funeral will be Saturday for Marlon Darnell Ellis, 33, 845 Legion Club Road, who died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001).

A maternal grandfather, David K. Ellis of Bryn Mawr, Pa., was omitted from an earlier obituary.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. William Gullick. Burial, White Rock AME Zion Church cemetery, Granite Quarry.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Willa Bly Fenters

WINSTON-SALEM — Willa Bly Fenters, 93, 306 Apt. 0, Park Ridge Circle, formerly of Albemarle, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel, Albemarle, conducted by Bishop Ted Brothers. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Alvin ‘Gene’ Jones

ROCKWELL —Alvin Eugene “Gene” Jones, 49, Rockwell, died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at his home.

Powles Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Betty Falke McElroy

LANDIS — The funeral will be Saturday for Betty Falke McElroy, 69, North Zion Street, who died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at her home.

Born Sept. 9, 1931, in Marion,Va., Mrs. McElroy was a daughter of the late Rudolph and India Falke. She was a graduate of Big Creek High School, War, W.Va., and Charleston General Hospital School of Nursing, Charleston, W.Va.

A nurse, she retired from Landis Medical Clinic. She was a member of First Reformed Church of Landis.

Her husband, Dr. Richard A. McElroy, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters Melinda McElroy Fuller, Landis, and Susan McElroy McCabe, Algonquin, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, First Reformed Church of Landis, conducted by the Rev. David Franks. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis.

Sarah Owens Riddle

ADVANCE — The funeral will be Friday for Sarah Marie Owens Riddle, 80, N.C. Hwy. 801 N., who died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at her home.

Born June 6, 1920, in Surry County, Mrs. Riddle was a daughter of the late Garfield and Cora Brown Owens. She retired from Hanes Corporation after 30 years.

She was a member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church.

Her husband, the Rev. John L. Riddle, died July 25, 1963.

Survivors include son John R. Riddle, of the home; half brother David Owens, Mocksville; and half sister Jane Smith, Mocksville.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Eaton Funeral Home chapel, Mocksville, conducted by the Rev.Don Sigmon and David Owens. Burial, Yadkin Valley Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Alis Alexander Ritchie

LANDIS — Alis Alexander Ritchie, 80, 801 N. Chapel St., died Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Feb. 18, 1920, in Rowan County, Mr. Ritchie was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Beulah Beaver Ritchie. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.

Retired from Owens Illinois, he was also employed in the construction field. He was a member of Memorial Independent Baptist Church.

His wife, Sally Hart Ritchie, died Feb. 10, 2000.

Survivors include son Charles Ritchie, Landis; daughters Becky Lyman and Nancy Simmons, both of Landis; brother Grover Ritchie, Kannapolis; sisters Louise Rex,Kannapolis, and Irene Drye,San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Bill Bauguess and the Rev. Dr. Greg Pierce. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on North Chapel Street.
