Leon Marchall Albritton

ALBEMARLE — Leon Marchall Albritton, 72, 28109 McSwain Road, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Albemarle Lutheran NursingHome.

Services: 2 today, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: 1-2 today at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Lynn Boysworth, 516 McGillSt.

Earl Wilbur Britt

Earl Wilbur Britt, 67, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Johnny Ray Campbell

CONCORD — Johnny Ray Campbell, 56, 4251 Laurelwood Court, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews.

Born Oct. 2, 1944, in North Wilkesboro, Mr. Campbell was a son of the late Vander and Faye Davis Campbell. He attended Mecklenburg Community Church. Retired from Liberty Life Insurance Co., after 27 years, he worked part-time at Stone Mechanical, Indian Trail.

A son, Shane Campbell, died in 2000.

Survivors include wife Renee Jorgenson Campbell; sons Johnny Ray Campbell Jr., Kannapolis, and Christopher Brian Campbell, Concord; daughter Jacqueline Martin, Rock Hill, S.C.; stepson Shawn McFalls, Charlotte; stepdaughters Jennifer Stone, Mount Pleasant, and Kari Oien, North Dakota; brothers Jay Campbell, Rockwell, and Jerry Campbell, Kannapolis; sister Judy Blake, Kannapolis; and five grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Gene Woodall. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Laurelwood Court.

Innis Leona South Gay

KANNAPOLIS — Innis Leona SouthGay, 85, Kannapolis, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Concord Nursing Center, Concord.

Born Jan. 5, 1916, in Morehead, Minn., Mrs. Gay was a daughter of the late Lonie Oscar and Mary Boyd South. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Salisbury.

Her husband, Julius Brice Gay, and a son, J.B. Gay Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters Sharon Rollins, Matthews, and Donna Hervig, Concord; sister Margaret Pitts, Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Randy Powell. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Blanch Hoffner Gobble

The funeral will be Thursday for Blanch Hoffner Gobble, 72, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at her home after six months of illness.

Born Feb. 8, 1929, in Rowan County, Mrs. Gobble, a daughter of the late Challie Lee and Lena Owens Hoffner, was educated in the Rowan County Schools. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Trading Ford Joy Club and Miller Ferry Fire Department Auxiliary.

Her husband, J.W. “Bill” Gobble, died Aug. 15, 1998.

Survivors include son Joel Gobble, Richfield; daughter Peggy Brandon, Salisbury; brothers Ernest Hoffner, Gold Hill, and Curtis Hoffner, Salisbury; sisters Velna Carrick, Mary Jane Ward, Annie Lee Hall and Helen Stiller, all of Salisbury, Jessie Burrage, Arlean Morgan, Johnnie Earnhardt and Barbara Jean Brown, all of Richfield, and Edna Mahaley, Kernersville; and four grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Jeffcoat. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home.

Dorothy O. Goble

The funeral will be Thursday for Dorothy Elizabeth Overcash Goble, 67, Salisbury, who died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Mooresville, after a period of declining health.

Born Jan. 8, 1934, in Rowan County, Mrs. Goble, a daughter of the late Harvey and Elizabeth Stiller Overcash, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Her husband, Harold Carmey Goble, and a grandson, Robbie Griffin, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons Roger, Stephen and Paul Goble, all of Salisbury, and Harold Goble, Gold Hill; stepson Johnny Goble, Salisbury; daughters Patty Griffin and Trinna Keziah, both of Mooresville, Kathy Pastor, Charlotte, and Nancy Kesler, Salisbury; brothers Grady Lee Overcash, Rockwell, and David Overcash, Cleveland; sisters Alice Morgan, Salisbury, and Ann Marie Clement, Greensboro; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 1 p.m. Thursday, National Cemetery, Salisbury, Military Avenue Site, conducted by the Rev.Ken McQueen of Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Nancy Kesler.

 

Joseph H. Harrison

The funeral will be Thursday for Joseph Houston Harrison, 84, Millbridge community, who died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Hefner VAMedical Center.

Born Sept. 11, 1916, in Rowan County, Mr. Harrison was a son of the late J.S. and Sallie Carrigan Harrison. He was a graduate of Farm life School, China Grove.

A lifelong farmer, he formerly worked from the North Carolina Forestry Department. He retired from Fiber Industries, now KoSa.

He was a member of Thyatira Presbyterian Church and a charter member of Millbridge Ruritans. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in the Seabees during World WarII.

Survivors include wife Helen Corriher Harrison, whom he married March 18, 1945; sons Gary Harrison, Salisbury, and Bobby Harrison, Mount Ulla; daughter Barbara Harrison, Washington, D.C.; and one grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Thyatira Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Leighton Culler. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: At the church after the service.

Samuel Leroy Keeter

LINCOLNTON — Samuel Leroy Keeter, 62, 337 Sunny Hill Drive, Apartment 2, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at his home.

He was the brother of Jack Keeter of Salisbury.

Greene Funeral Service, Gastonia, is in charge.

 

Hezekiah K. Krider

Hezekiah K. Krider, 103, 865 Luther Barger, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born July 4, 1897, Mr. Krider was a son of the late John and Martha Krider. He was educated in the Mecklenburg County schools and owner H.K. Krider &Son Scrap Metal.

A member of New Zion Baptist Church, he was on the Dunns Mountain deacon board, in the senior choir, and a Sunday school teacher and treasurer.

His wife, Julia T. Krider, died in 1973. He was also preceded in death by sons Robert, Alfred and Arthur Krider, and a daughter, Rosa Holmes.

Survivors include son Napolean Krider, Granite Quarry; daughter Margaret Ross, Salisbury; granddaughter reared in the home Julia Krider, Salisbury; 26 other grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Betty Falke McElroy

LANDIS — Betty Falke McElroy, 69, 515 N. Zion St., died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at her home.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, is in charge.

 

Rev. Isaac C. Morris Jr.

CHINA GROVE — The Rev. Isaac C. Morris Jr., 74, 1008 Franklin St., died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Jan. 23, 1927, in Pitt County, the Rev. Morris was a son of the Rev. Isaac C. Morris of Kannapolis and the late Mittie Carawan Morris.

He graduated from Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., and was a World War IIveteran of the U.S. Army.

He was retired as an ordained minister with the Church of God, having pastored 13 churches in Kannapolis, Concord, Lexington, Burlington, Wilmington, Erwin, Fayetteville, Gastonia, Anderson, S.C., Gadsen, Ala., Dalton, Ga., and Cleveland, Tenn.

He was a member of Lane Street Church of God, Kannapolis.

In addition to his father, he is survived by wife Gladys Johnson Morris; children Lorraine Rushing, Concord, Barclay Morris, Charlotte, and Jane Dawsey, Crowder’s Mountain; and three grandchildren.

Services: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Lane Street Church of God, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Wade Easom, the Rev. Troy Rushing and the Rev. Dr. Donnie Smith. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of Lorraine Rushing, 933 Orphanage Road. Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, is in charge.

Earnest ‘Pappy’ Rabon

Earnest Richard “Pappy” Rabon, 84, 1125 Sells Road, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at his home.

Born March 27, 1916, in Rowan County, Mr. Rabon was a son of the late Arthur and Eula Rainey Rabon. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Employed by Cannon Mills for 28 years, he later worked for Fiber Industries for 14 years. He was employed part-time at Lowe’s, where he had worked for the past 5 years.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a member of Melvin Harmon’s Sunday School class.

Survivors include wife Mary Elizabeth Trexler Rabon, whom he married Nov. 27, 1937; sons D.R. Rabon, Linwood, and Bruce Rabon, Salisbury; daughters Joyce R. Arrington and Lorraine R. Trexler, both of Salisbury; brother Herman Rabon, Salisbury; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rick Cockerham and the Rev. Bobby Seagroves. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home.

Sarah Owens Riddle

ADVANCE — Sarah Marie Owens Riddle, 80, N.C. Hwy. 801 North, diedTuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at her home.

Eaton Funeral Home, Mocksville, is in charge.

 

Marvin Leroy Shore

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Marvin Leroy Shore, 63, Sacramento, a Cooleemee,N.C., native, died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at Kaiser Hospital.

Born Sept. 10, 1937, in Cooleemee, N.C., Mr. Shore, a son of the late Millie Beatrice Ellenberg and William Henry Shore, was a resident of Woodland for 29 years. He was reared in Magnolia,Ark., and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he completed his education.

He was employed by Canteen Corporation in the Bay Area for several years before going to Woodland Beverage Co. in 1972. Owner and proprietor of Marvin’s Market in Esparto during the 1980s, he was last employed by Woodland’s DeRosa Sales.

Survivors include wife of 45 years Donna Gauvain Shore; daughter Karen “Renee” Shore, Woodland; son Michael Wayne “Mickey” Shore; sisters Helen Bean, Nellie Adams, Colleen Williams, all of North Carolina, and Cynthia West, Colorado; brothers Jack and Doyle Shore, both of Arkansas; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Feb. 2 at Woodland’s United Methodist Church. The body was cremated, and the ashes are to be buried in Magnolia, Ark.

Affordable Cremation of Sacramento was in charge.
