TYRO — Salisbury’s girls basketball team ended its season on Monday with a 74-36 loss to Ledford in the first round of the 2A Central Carolina Conference Tournament at West Davidson High.
Ledford raced out to a 19-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 42-10 at the half. The seventh-seeded Hornets finished 6-16. Ke-Ke Chunn finished an outstanding senior season with 14 points. Jamie Seay added 11.
Second-seeded Ledford was led by Leslie Hinkle’s 21 points. The Panthers advance to play Lexington in the semifinals.
In other CCC first-round games, the Lexington boys ended North Stanly’s season 105-85 and the Lexington girls eliminated East Davidson 70-34.
North Rowan’s fourth-seeded girls play tonight against North Stanly, while Salisbury’s sixth-seeded boys face No. 3 seed High Point Central.
North Rowan’s top-seeded boys swing into action on Wednesday’s semifinals against either East Davidson or Ledford.
South Piedmont Conference boys teams begin tournament play tonight.
Top-seeded West Rowan hosts Concord against whom it scored 112 points recently.
East Rowan’s boys face a do-or-die game at Sun Valley. The Mustangs dropped both game to the Spartans this season.
In other first-round games, Harding hosts Piedmont and A.L. Brown visits Central Cabarrus.
The SPC girls teams return to action for Wednesday’s semifinals at A.L. Brown. Top seed Central Cabarrus will take on A.L. Brown, while Northwest Cabarrus faces West Rowan.
Last night, Central bounced back from its recent loss to West with a 75-32 pummeling of Concord.
Serlethea Smith led the Vikings with 19 points, while Evan Miller added 15.
Northwest stopped Piedmont 59-53, as red-hot Danielle Archey poured in 24 points and freshman Rose Florence added 13.
Morgan Hinkel had 13 for Piedmont.
