Winifred Reid Beaver
CHINA GROVE — Winifred Reid Beaver, 81, 1240 Roberts St., died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Feb. 17, 1919, in Rowan County, Mr. Beaver was a son of the late Mamie Rodgers and Sloan O. Beaver. He was educated in Rowan County and retired from Burlington Industies.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Young at Heart group and was a former president of the Men’s Bible Class and Methodist Men.
Survivors include wife Violet Elizabeth Winecoff Beaver; sons Glenn R. Beaver, Concord, and A.L. Chamberlain, Surfside Beach, S.C.; daughter Judy B. Kidd, Monroe; brothers Elmer “Bill” and Banks M. Beaver, both of Kannapolis; sisters Gladys Tate, China Grove, and Marie Wagner, Salisbury; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rusty Inman and the Rev. Kristen Lassiter. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home at 1240 Roberts St.

Elaine Overcash Harris
HUNTERSVILLE — Elaine Overcash Harris, 64, Huntersville, formerly of Beth Page Road, Kannapolis, died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at her home after two years of declining health.
Born Aug. 12, 1936, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Harris was a daughter of Ruby Bostian Overcash, Kannapolis, and the late Carl Seaford Overcash.
An employee of the Independent Tribune for 38 years, she was a member of BethPage Presbyterian Church.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include daughters Pamela H. Deal and Cindy Harris, both of Huntersville, and Renee Harris, Concord; son Rodney Q. Harris, Wrightsville Beach; sister Alice Tarlton, Kannapolis; brother Ted Overcash, Spartanburg, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, BethPage Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Steven Mowery and the Rev. Clarence Eden. Burial, church cemetery.

Verlie S. Haskins
KANNAPOLIS — Verlie Shepherd Haskins, 83, formerly of Broad Street, died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at Lenoir Health Care Center, Lenoir.
Born June 26, 1917, in AsheCounty, Mrs. Haskins was a daughter of the late Margaret Roil Shepherd. She was retired from Cannon Mills Co. and was a member of Mount Zion First Freewill Baptist Church.
Her husband, Cecil Haskins, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters Ella Mae Lewis, Lenoir, and Myrtle Forbes, Charlotte; son Robert Eastridge, Kelso, Wash.; brothers, Gilbert, Grant, Buster and Herbie Miller; sisters Retha Privette, Mae Parsons, Pansy Jones and Ruth Madden; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Charlie M. Holman Jr.
MOCKSVILLE — Charlie Mack Holman Jr., 56, Mocksville, died Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) in the Winston-Salem Hospice Home following a short illness.
Born in Forsyth County, Mr. Holman is survived by sons Kevin Conrad and Eric Joel Holman, both of Salisbury; and sister Annie Holman, Mocksville.
Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Graham Funeral Home chapel, conducted by Bishop James Ijames. Burial, Rose Cemetery.

Ethel Rickard
LEXINGTON — Ethel Beck Rickard, 83, Boone’s Cave Road, Churchland community, died Saturday, (Feb. 10, 2001) at Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Home, Clemmons, after five years of declining health.
Born July 12, 1917, in Davidson County, Mrs. Rickard was a daughter of the late William Henry and Bessie Belle Walser Beck. She retired from Dacotah Cotton Mills and was a member of Pine Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ottis Graham Rickard, a son, Ira Rickard, and a daughter, Mary Belle Rickard.
Survivors include husband Lloyd D. McElrath; son Carlton Rickard, Churchland; stepson Robbie McElrath, Salisbury; daughters Faye Eller, Churchland, and Libby Rogers, Denton; stepdaughters Francis Morgan, Salisbury, and Betty Jean Whitaker, Mocksville; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; 14 stepgrandchildren; 29 step-great-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Snider Cemetery, Churchland, conducted by John Draper.

John Thomas Rimmer
John Thomas Rimmer, 55, Salisbury, died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at his home.
Born May 7, 1945 in Covington, Ky., Mr. Rimmer was a son of the Rev. J. Paul and Eva Bess Rimmer, Cherryville. He graduated from East Rowan High School in 1963, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1968 and Southern Seminary in 1972.
He was a former pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, East Spencer, and had been a school bus driver for nine years. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a former member of the East Rowan Saddle Club.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Reeda Hampton Rimmer, Rockwell; son Justin T. Rimmer, Salisbury; brother Jerry Franklin Rimmer, Raleigh; and sister Jane Cadwallader, Conover.
Services: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Sheeks and the Rev. Dr. Bills Mimms of Newton. Burial, church cemetery.

Mary Wellman Rhyne
STATESVILLE — Mary Elizabeth Wellman Rhyne, 88, 825 Meadow Road, died Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) at Davis Medical Center.
Born Nov. 2, 1912, in Davie County, Mrs. Rhyne was a daughter of the late William Franklin and Celia Elizabeth Smith Wellman. She was retired as a librarian at Northview School. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Statesville, and the Order of the Eastern Star, which she had served in the past as a state officer.
Her husband, G. Truett Rhyne, whom she married July 14, 1934, died Nov. 8, 1989.
Survivors include two nieces.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tony McDade and the Rev. Scott Hagaman. Graveside, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Salisbury.
