Estelle Durham
MOCKSVILLE — Estelle Janette Seamon Durham, 77, formerly of West Maple Avenue, Mocksville, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at Scenic View Rehabilitation Nursing Home, King.
Born Nov. 7, 1923, in Davie County, she was a daughter of the late Ida Adams and Lewis Monroe Seamon. She retired from Baker Furniture Co. and previously worked for Burlington Industries for more than 25 years. She was a lifelong member of Turrentine Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husband Otis B. Durham and daughter Joyce Durham McLelland.
Survivors include brother Vestal Seamon of Armuchee, Ga., sisters Ruby Boger, Mocksville, and Nellie Murray of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Turrentine Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Joe Smith. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Mae Hargrave James
Mae Tory Hargrave James, Washington, D.C., died Jan. 29, 2001, in Washington, D.C.
A Salisbury native, she was a daughter of the late Ab and Willie Mae Hargrave.
Survivors include son Darnell James, Washington, D.C.; brothers Ray, James, George and William Hargrave, all of Salisbury; sisters Carrye Bell Hargrave, Washington, D.C., and Jeanette Hargrave, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 2. Burial was at Washington National Cemetery.

Vera Boger Lewis
The funeral will be Sunday for Vera Boger Lewis, 92, Salisbury, who died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a week of serious illness.
Born Feb. 20, 1908, in Rowan County, Mrs. Lewis was a daughter of the late Crawford and Sarah Jane Earnhardt Boger.
Educated in the Rowan County schools, she graduated from Rowan Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1928. She retired as a registered nurse and afternoon supervisor at the hospital.
A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Arthur Shipton Sunday school class and the Jane Boger-Esther Brown Circle of the church, she was also a member of the Immanuel Seniors, AAL Branch 6749 and volunteered for the American Red Cross.
Her husband, Elbert Whatley Lewis, died Aug. 13, 1983.
Survivors include daughters Sarah Lewis of Charlotte and Vera Lewis of the home.
Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Sheeks, pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

Lula C. Nicholson
SALISBURY — Lula Cody Nicholson, 63, Heiligtown Road, formerly of Greensboro, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at her home.
A Davie County native, Mrs. Nicholson was a daughter of the late Booker T. and Florence Vaneaton Cody. She retired as an executive secretary from AT&T Technologies and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Mocksville.
Survivors include daughter Venesa C. Hearst, Salisbury; son John H. Nicholson III, Harmony; sisters Rebecca C. Isaac, Mocksville, Helen Evans, Greensboro, Florence B. Cody, Yonkers, N.Y., Jenny C. Llewellyn, Hackensack, N.J., and Rena Patricia Cody, Paterson, N.J.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Marcus Sifford, 73, Faith died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Rev. Jack D. Thomas
The funeral will be Sunday for the Rev. Jack Dalton Thomas, 86, Salisbury, who died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at his home after four years of declining health and a serious illness of one month.
Born Feb. 23, 1914, in Worth, W.Va., he was a son of the late Ella Hemmings Thomas Hyatt and Luther Thomas. Educated in the Amelia, Va., schools, he later studied theology.
He served as a Baptist preacher in West Virginia, then served as pastor at Wyatt’s Grove Baptist Church, Westside Baptist Church and Providence Baptist Church. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, China Grove, and the Southern Baptist Association. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
A grandson preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife Ellie Garrett Thomas, whom he married March 15, 1937; sons Robert and Jack Thomas, both of Salisbury; daughters Shelby Sanford, Stockton, Calif., and Judy Elliott, Salisbury; brother the Rev. Elmer Thomas, Statesville; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Rowan Memorial Park.

Shula Ester Vickers
MOORESVILLE — Shula Ester Vickers, 90, 221 Shinn-ville Road, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at Brian Center Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 29, 1910, in Randolph County, Mrs. Vickers was a daughter of the late Arthur and Eva Lou Gallmore Thompson. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Grady Vickers, died Sept. 4, 1995. Two grandsons also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters Jackie Schronce, Mooresville, and Margaret James, Gilbert, S.C.; sisters Lula Edwards, Ann Loflin, Jamesina Hollingsworth and Bernice Cave, all of High Point; brother Hubert Thompson, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 2 today, Vanderburg United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Gerald David.

Hubert Wagoner
Hubert Edward Wagoner, 88, Denver, Colo. died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) in Denver after a period of declining health.
Born June 9, 1912, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Pearl D. and Edward W. Wagoner. He attended Boyden High School and Mount Pleasant Collegiate Institute.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1947 to 1962. He was a member of the U.S.Army Artillery from 1934-1936, and the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1936-1947. He was a former member of Haven Lutheran Church.
His wife, Frances Jean Bole Wagoner, whom he married Aug. 3, 1941, died in 1993.
Survivors include sons Edward A. Wagoner, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Kenneth W. Wagoner, San Diego, Calif.; brothers, Ralph D. and Walter P. Wagoner, both of Salisbury; sister Kathryn W. Terry, Salisbury; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Virgie Morgan Wyatt
BADIN — Virgie Morgan Wyatt, 83, 210 Spruce St., died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital,Albemarle.
Born Dec. 31, 1917, in Rowan County, Mrs. Wyatt was a daughter of the late James A. and Arbie Wise Morgan. Retired from the Stanly County Schools, she was a dietician at North Stanly School.
She was a member of Badin Baptist Church, where she was in the adult Bible Sunday school class and a past circle chairman and Sunday school teacher. A member of Order of the Eastern Star, Tallahassee Chapter 208, she was a past worthy matron. She was a past worthy high priestess of Concordia Shrine 14, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
Her husband, Fred C. Wyatt, preceded her in death. A grandson also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons James C. Wyatt, Charlotte, and Wesley N. Wyatt, Albemarle; brothers Hoyle Morgan,China Grove, and Wayne Morgan, Salisbury; sisters EthelSloop, Kannapolis, and Linda Garmon, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and four granddaughters.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Badin Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dan Abernathy. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Wyatt’s Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
