Everette E. Allman
KANNAPOLIS — Everette Eugene Allman, 78, 308 Spring Garden St., died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at Five Oaks Nursing Center after a year of declining health and several days of serious illness.
Born March 8, 1922, in Rowan County, Mr. Allman was a son of the late Earl C. and Julia Wright Allman. He was a graduate of Landis High School.
A veteran, he served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon Plant 1, No. 7 spinning room.
Survivors include wife Clessie Ramey Allman; daughter Fran Allman Maner, Kannapolis; sisters Catherine A. Brotherton and Ruby A. Harrington, both of Mooresville; brothers Roy, Harold and E.W. “Jiggs” Allman, all of Kannapolis, and Richard Allman, China Grove; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev.JeffUpright and the Rev. John Mark Beam III. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park. Military rites by DAVChapter 27.
Visitation: 5-7 tonight at the funeral home.

Alma Harris Boswell
BADIN — Alma Bell Harris Boswell, 91, Badin, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Born Aug. 4, 1909, in Anson County, Mrs. Boswell was a daughter of the late Jonathan P. and Lonnie B. Boswell. She worked with Avon Products, Inc. and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Badin Baptist Church.
Her husband, Lonnie B. Boswell, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters Barbara B. Hicks, Albemarle, and Beverly McSwain, Raleigh; sister Virginia McLean, Wadesboro; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Badin Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dan Abernathy. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at 126 Pine St.
Susie Crowe Byrd
KANNAPOLIS — Susie Crowe Byrd, 90, Best of Care Rest Home, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at the nursing center.
Born Aug. 30, 1910, in Franklin County, Ga., Mrs. Byrd was a daughter of the late J.P. and Bertie Fowler Crowe. She retired from Cannon Mills Co. plant 1 sewing room after many years. She was a member of West A Street Church of God.
Her husband, G.B. “Red” Byrd, died in 1997.
Survivors include son Tony Byrd, Kannapolis; sisters Colleen Morgan, Holden Beach, and Reba Coone, Kannapolis; brother Homer Crowe, Kannapolis; and two grandchildren.
Services: 2 today, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev.Robert Howard. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 12:30-2 today at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of her son, Tony Byrd, 1853 Enochville Road.

Morgan Chaffin
MOCKSVILLE — Abner Morgan Chaffin, 63, Sheffield Road, died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Dec. 25, 1937, in Davie County, Mr. Chaffin was a son of the late Stacy H. and Inez Ijames Chaffin. He was a graduate of Mocksville High School, where he was recognized as a talented basketball player.
Retired, he had worked at Hoechst-Celanese and as a tobacco farmer. He was a member of Ijames Baptist Church.
His wife, Faye Smith Chaffin, died in 1985.
Survivors include sons Dr. Morgan Keith Chaffin, College Station, Texas, and Bryan K.Chaffin, Mocksville; daughter Kathy Chaffin, Mocksville; brothers Norman S. Chaffin, Advance, Edwin Dale Chaffin, Mocksville, Thurmond Odus Chaffin, Welaka, Fla., and Gary Ijames Chaffin, Winston-Salem; sisters Doris Chaffin Kurfees and Bonnie Chaffin Gunter, both of Harmony; and one granddaughter.

Marlon Darnell Ellis
Marlon Darnell Ellis, 33, 845 Legion Club Road, died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001).
Born July 31, 1967, in Philadelphia, Pa., Mr. Ellis was a son of Albert C. Polk and Andrea Ellis. He was educated in the Pennsylvania schools. Last employed at Food Lion warehouse, he was a member of EmmanuelAMEZion Church, Philadelphia, Pa.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include son Leon DurellSmith, Spring City, Pa.; daughter Ammarra C. Ellis, Philadelphia, Pa.; brother Anthony C. Ellis,Salisbury; stepbrothers Brent C. and Steven A. Polk, both of Salisbury; sister Kellene M. Cokley, Bryn Mawr, Pa.; and stepsisters Patti P. Washington, Salisbury, and Paoli E. Polk, both of Charlotte.

Ethel Ellis Jones
MOCKSVILLE —Ethel Ellis Jones, 87, formerly of Ralph Jones Road, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at Davie Place of Mocksville after several years of declining health.
Born Dec. 14, 1913, in Davie County, Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late Willie Lee and Stella Carter Ellis. She retired from Hanes Corporation knitwear division after 35 years.
Her husband, Ralph Jones, died June 12, 1987.
Survivors include sister Georgia Cornatzer, Advance.

Born March 5, 1919, in Davie County,Mr. Sain, a son of the late Willie Alvin and Ella Horne Sain, was educated in the Davie County schools. He was a security guard atErwin Mills, Cooleemee, and a farmer. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Mocksville.
Survivors include wife Elizabeth Powlas Sain; and sisters Clara Angell and Hazel Boger, both of Mocksville.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Saturday, Gay’s Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Don Newman.

Annie Helms Pope
KANNAPOLIS — Annie Maude Helms Pope, 86, 509 Ford St., died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born May 13, 1914, in Union County, Mrs. Pope was a daughter of the late Thomas Lexie and Mary Lou Austin Helms. She retired from Cannon Mills Co. plant 4 card room after 40 years. An active member of Calvary Baptist Church, she was affiliated with the WMU and the Sunshine Club.
Her husband, George Mikel Pope, died in 1968, and a son, G. Neil Pope, died in 1992.
Survivors include brother J.W. Helms, Kannapolis; sisters Ona Ross and Hazel Robertson, both of Kannapolis; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Calvary Baptist Church, Kannapolis, conducted by Dr. Dale Tanner. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
