Edna Sink Cook

The funeral will be Thursday for Edna Sink Cook, 94, Salisbury, who died Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks after a period of declining health.

Born April 5, 1906, in Rowan County, Mrs. Cook was a daughter of the late William P. and Nancy Simmerson Sink. She was educated in the Rowan County schools and retired fromCone Mills. She was a member of Union Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Arnold Cook, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Frances Hinkle, Salisbury; and brothers Lindsey Sink, Salisbury, and Hebert Sink, Kannapolis.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Thursday, Union Lutheran Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Norris, pastor, and the Rev. Henry Sells, Dallas, N.C.

Visitation: None.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

Ralph Gaines Crider

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Ralph Gaines Crider, 90, formerly of 301 East E. St., who died Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) at Best of Care Rest Home.

Born July 2, 1910, in Madison County, Ga., Mr. Crider was a son of the late D.P. and Ella Fowler Crider. He retired in 1975 from CannonMills Co. Plant 1 No. 1 weave room after 49 years.

An active member of First Wesleyan Church, he was a Sunday school superintendent for 34 years and a former choir director.

His wife, Mary Ina Morris Crider, died Jan. 7, 1986. A son, Billy Ray Crider, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include brother Kiolen Crider, Kannapolis; sisters Sue Mooney, Kannapolis, and Louise Owings and Nina Roberts, both of Concord; and three grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Friday, First WesleyanChurch, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Forbis Kivett, the Rev. Hoover Smith and the Rev. Scott Wheeler. Burial,Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home.

Evelyn McCall Deese

CONCORD — Evelyn McCall Deese, 52, 1835 Songwood Road, mother of Sonya Davis, Gold Hill, died Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) from complications of rheumatoid arthritis.

Services: 12 p.m. Friday, Gospel Light Freewill Baptist Church. Burial, Sunset Memory Gardens.

Visitation: 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Wilkinson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Songwood Road.

 

Carl Bain Hicks

NEW LONDON — Carl Bain Hicks, 66, 40113 Palmerville Road, died Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) at his home.

Born Aug. 8, 1934, in Stanly County, Mr. Hicks was a son of the late Harlow O. and Charlotte Greenlee Hicks. He was a veteran of the U.S.Army and retired from ALCOA after 29 years, where he was a member of the 25 Year Club. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Margaret Dennis Hicks; sons Michael and Eddie Hicks, both of New London; daughter Carla Hicks, New London; brothers Joe Hicks, Badin, H.O. Hicks Jr., Albemarle, and Jimmy Hicks, Charlotte; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Immanuel Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Otis Goins and Rev. Larry Dennis. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home, Albemarle.

Larry W. Holshouser

Larry Wayne Holshouser, 52, Salisbury, died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Judy Latham

MOCKSVILLE — Judy Latham, Latham Farm Road, died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at her home.

Eaton Funeral Home is in charge.

 

‘Gene’ McCullough

EAST SPENCER — Eugene “Gene” McCullough, 61, 252 Correll St., died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a month of serious illness.

Born Aug. 31, 1939, in Rowan County, Mr. McCullough was a son of the late W.B. and Elsie McCullough. He was a graduate of Dunbar High School and received a bachelor of science degree from Winston-Salem State University. He owned and operated Gene’s Pool Room.

He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

His wife, Vera Walker McCullough, died Sept. 9, 1983.

Survivors include son Kevin McCullough, Salisbury; daughters Pamela McCullough, Detroit, and Donna McCullough, East Spencer; brother John McCullough, East Spencer; sister Julia M. Wilson, Danville, Va.; and five grandchildren.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Gary Lynn Stewart

KANNAPOLIS — Gary Lynn Stewart, 55, 115 Dillon Drive, Hendersonville,Tenn., a former Kannapolis resident, died Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) at his home in Tennessee.

Born Dec. 13, 1945, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Steward was a son of Thema Lowe Hargett, Kannapolis, and the late Robert Lynn Stewart. He served in the U.S. Army and was employed with Feldkirsher Wire.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Bette L. Stewart; sons Robert and Brian Stewart; daughters Patricia Scaffe and Lisa White; brother David W. Hargett, Kannapolis; sister Donna Hargett Neuburger, Loveland, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Friday, West Lawn Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Willie Rash.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home.

 

Hubert E. Wagoner

Hubert Edward Wagoner, 88, Denver, Colo., formerly of Salisbury, died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) in Denver.

Richard Watson

The funeral will be Thursday for Gary Richard Watson, 59, 209 Rowan Mills Road, who died Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born May 10, 1941, in Rowan County, Mr. Watson was a son of the late J.C. and Margie Marie Gaskey Watson. He attended China Grove High School and served in the National Guard. A Methodist, he was employed with Parkdale Mills for over 17 years.

Survivors include wife Margie P. Watson, Troutman; stepson Ricky Freeman, Salisbury; stepdaughter Debra Pope,Troutman; brothers Larry, J.C. “Butch”, Terry, Joe and Ricky Watson, all of Salisbury; sisters Marlene Owen and Margie Harrington, both of Salisbury; and three step-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Thursday, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Sheeks, pastor, Immanuel Lutheran Church,Rockwell.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Larry Watson, Woodbridge Run.

Jack Williams

Jack Williams, 66, 110 Page Drive, died Tuesday Feb. 6, 2001) at his home.
