Dorothy Wallace Aycoth
KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Monday for Dorothy
Wallace Aycoth, 65, 518 Locust St., who died Friday (Feb. 2, 2001) at her residence after
10 years of declining health.
Born Jan. 1, 1936, in Hartsville, S.C., Mrs. Aycoth was a
daughter of the late James Clarence and Elma Edwards Wallace. She had retired in 1990 from
Fieldcrest-Cannon, Plant 1, No. 7 spinning room. She was a member of Faith Free Will
Baptist Church.
Mrs. Aycoth was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara
Ann Winburn.
Survivors include husband Marvin Aycoth; daughter Brenda
Colver, Kannapolis; brothers C.W. and Jimmy Wallace, both of Kannapolis, and Andy Wallace,
Hartsville, S.C.; sisters Inez Dixon, Cheraw, S.C., and Michelle Wallace, Hartsville,
S.C.; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services:2 p.m. Monday, Faith Free Will Baptist Church,
conducted by the Rev. James Pauley. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitleys Funeral Home. At
other times the family will be the residence.
Elwood C. Clayton
RICHFIELD Elwood Cramon Clayton, 75, 24817 Miller
Road, died Saturday (Feb. 3, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born May 29, 1925, in Stanly County, Mr. Clayton was a son
of the late Ernest C. and Ina Hicks Clayton. He had retired as owner and operator of
Claytons Grocery. Mr. Clayton was a member of Richfield Baptist Church, the
Albemarle Lions Club and the Stanly County Chapter of the Federation of the Blind, where
he was a past president.
Survivors include wife Maxine Miller Clayton; son Richard
DickClayton, Norwood; daughter Jane C. Huneycutt, Albemarle; four
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Richfield Baptist Church,
conducted by the Rev. Eugene Carroll and the Rev. Les Schofield. Burial, Richfield
Cemetery.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle.

Johnny Lee Deason
CHINA GROVE Johnny Lee Deason, 76, N.C. Highway 152,
died Saturday (Feb. 3, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after nine
months of declining health.
Born Oct. 12, 1924, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mr.
Deason was a son of the late Drew Clifton and Lula Demby Deason. He was employed with
Florida Steel, Charlotte, for eight years and, prior to that, worked with Metric
Construction, Columbia, S.C., and Charlotte.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Pageland,
S.C. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Deason served with the 56th Medical
Battalion and earned several medals, including the Eamet Campaign Medal with four bronze
stars. He served at the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include wife Dorothy Blanche Davis Deason; and
brothers Lloyd Deason, Kannapolis, and J.W. Deason, Oak Island.
Services: 3:30 p.m. Monday, Whitleys Funeral Home,
Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Randy Crowell and Nathan Blackwelder. Entombment, West
Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, with military rites by the Rowan County Veterans Council.

Ethel Blackwelder Fisher
ROCKWELL Ethel Blackwelder Fisher, 98, Rockwell,
died Friday (Feb. 2, 2001) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.
Born Oct. 31, 1902, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Fisher was a
daughter of the late Carl Dexter and Lecta Furr Blackwelder. She was a graduate of Monte
Amoena Seminary in Mount Pleasant and the Deaconess Training Academy in Baltimore. She
also attended Lenoir Rhyne College. She was a former hospital nursing assistant and
teacher in Cabarrus and Rowan counties.
A member of St. James Lutheran Church, she taught its first
kindergarten class. A Sunday school teacher, she had served on the church council and was
a lifelong member and former president of the womens group. She was also a former
president of the Central Conference of the Womens Missionary Society and was honored
with a life membership in the Lutheran Seminary Auxiliary.
Mrs. Fisher was a former president of the Rockwell PTA and
the Young at Heart group.
Her husband, the Rev. Roy Linn Fisher, died Jan. 18, 1975,
and a daughter, Jean Fisher Poole, died Aug. 11, 1970.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Dr. Carl M. Fisher,
Charlotte; daughters Roselyn Fisher Misenheimer, Rockwell, and Dr. Marjorie Fisher
Matthews, Pilot Mountain; brother Carl D. Blackwelder Jr., Concord; sisters Ruth B.
Overman, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Lillian B. Foster, Dallas, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and
18 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, St. James Lutheran Church,
conducted by the Rev. Craig Sigmon, pastor, and the Rev. Charles McManus. Burial, church
cemetery.

Lucille Ludwig Hughes
CHINA GROVE Lucille Ludwig Hughes, 91, 913 S.
Franklin St., died Friday (Feb. 2, 2001) at the Laurels of Salisbury.
Born Aug. 2, 1909, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of
the late William and Fannie Propst Ludwig. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she
worked for a time at Cannon Mills. Also a homemaker, she was a lifetime member of Lutheran
Chapel Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis E. Hughes.
Survivors include son Johnny E. Hughes, China Grove; and
sister Novella Kimball, Salisbury.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Linn
Honeycutt Funeral Home is in charge.

CLEVELAND Bernice Turner Jones, 69, 106 S. Brevard
St., died Saturday (Feb. 3, 2001) at Davis Hospital, Statesville.

Kenneth Ray Scott
CHINA GROVE The funeral will be Monday for Kenneth
Ray Scott, 28, 114 McCleve Road, who died Friday (Feb. 2, 2001) at Wake Forest University
Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born July 31, 1972, in Rowan County, Mr. Scott was a son of
James Lewis Leonard Jr. and Novella Margaret Scott, both of China Grove. A graduate of
South Rowan High School, he worked for C.E. Campbell Construction. He was a member of Main
Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include brother Jerry Scott, China Grove; and
stepbrothers James and Ricky Leonard, both of Salisbury.

KANNAPOLIS Goldia Belvin Smith, 82, 317 Pine St.,
died Saturday (Feb. 3, 2001)at her residence.
Born Sept. 26, 1918, in Wake County, she was a daughter of
the late Rayford Albert and Mary Rose Baker Belvin. She was a member of West Point Baptist
Church. A homemaker, she also worked part-time at Cannon Mills, Plant 1, labeling
department.
Her husband, John BillWilliam Smith, died Nov.
13, 2000.
Survivors include daughter Brenda S. Stowe, Belmont; son
John S. Smith,York, S.C.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
