Frankie Allen

HARMONY — Frankie Allen, 54, County Line Road, died Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) at Davis Medical Center.

Eaton Funeral Home, Mocksville, is in charge.

 

Helen Helms Dowless

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for Helen Helms Dowless, 89, 1404 Venus St., who died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at University Hospital, Charlotte.

Born Aug. 2, 1911, Mrs. Dowless was a daughter of the late Neil Helms and Maude Richardson Helms Newsome. She retired from Linn-Corriher Mills and was an active charter member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Francis Duncan Dowless, died in 1990.

Survivors include stepdaughters Nancy Brown, Matthews, and Judy Holloway, Scotch Plains, N.J.; five stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Jackson Park United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Skipper Watwood. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home.

Mary E. FitzGerald

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Mary Elizabeth FitzGerald, 94, The Fountains, 3800 N. Federal Hwy., died Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) in Boca Raton.

Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, N.C., is in charge.

 

Kent Goodman

The funeral will be Friday for Larry Kent Goodman, 63, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, after two months of serious illness.

Born July 9, 1937, in Rowan County, Mr.Goodman was a son of Ruby Morgan Goodman, Salisbury, and the late John Murray Goodman. He was educated in Rowan County schools.

Employed by Home Concrete, he earlier worked for Superior Oil Co. He was a member of Union Lutheran Church, where he was on the church council and served as church treasurer.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Ruth Long Goodman, whom he married July 25, 1959; daughters Pamela Brady, Harrisburg, and Sharon Jones, Atwood, Kan.; brothers Dennis Goodman, Apex, and Neal Goodman, Salisbury; sisters Donna Lanning, Hampton, Va., and Janet Overcash, Salisbury; and three grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Friday, Union Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Norris, pastor, and the Rev. David L. Jones, a son-in-law. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home.

Willie ‘Chaney’ Gray Lyttle

WOODLEAF — The funeral will be Friday for Willie Mae “Chaney” Gray Lyttle, 86, Woodleaf, who died Saturday (Jan. 27, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Oct. 4, 1914, in Rowan County, Mrs. Lyttle, a daughter of the late Jim and Eddie Bell Montgomery Gray, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She was a homemaker. A member of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, Cleveland, she served on the missionary board.

Her husband, Love Edward Lyttle, died June 21, 1996. Her son, Love Edward Little Jr., also preceded her in death.

Survivors include goddaughter Coressa Hickson Luther, of the home; brother Wade Montgomery, Baltimore, Md.; sisters Eddie Bell Rucker, Woodleaf, and Nora Smyre, Mocksville; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Friday, Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, Cleveland, conducted by Wayne Griffin. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 2 p.m. Friday at the church.

Shelby Marie Phillips

CHINA GROVE — Shelby Marie Phillips, 945 Patterson St., died Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) at her home.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Lisa Marie Robinson

CONCORD — The funeral will be Friday for Lisa Marie Robinson, 36, 855 Crisco Road, Concord, who died Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born Oct. 21, 1964, in Concord, Ms. Robinson was a daughter of Guy A. and Myrtle Crabtree Robinson. She was a 1983 graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School. A secretary at Troutman Motors, Concord, she was a member of Odell Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include sister Wanda Sue Eshelman, Surfside Beach, S.C.; and brothers John Calvin Robinson, Maiden, and Guy Andrew “Andy” Robinson Jr. and Barry Leon Robinson, both of Concord.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Odell Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Charles Stafford. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial, Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy A. Robinson, 789 Crisco Road, Concord.

Murell Anderson Stiller

The funeral will be Friday for Murell Anderson Stiller, 75, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at his home after a period of declining health.

Born March 1, 1925, in Rowan County, Mr. Stiller, a son of the late George and Lottie Hendricks Stiller, was educated in Rowan County schools. A veteran, he served two tours of duty with the U.S. Army military police during the Korean War.

He retired as superintendent from Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility of the North Carolina Department of Corrections after 30 years. He reached the rank of captain and received the Order of Longleaf Pine award from North Carolina Gov. James Holshouser.

A member of the State Employees Association of North Carolina, he was also a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church and Lowder Sunday School Class.

His wife, Rena Burris Stiller, died Sept. 3, 1998.

Survivors include daughters Patricia Masson, Chapel Hill, and April Bonnier, Roanoke, Ala.; sisters Betty Hopkins, Rockwell, Mary Starkey, Salisbury, and Joyce Stiller, Indianapolis, Ind.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Friday, National Cemetery, Military Avenue Site, conducted by the Rev. James Stokes. Military rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home.

Memorials: Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, 817 S. Main St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

 

Ruby Hill Thompson

KANNAPOLIS — Ruby Hill Thompson, 86, formerly of Lane Street, died Thursday (Feb. 1, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Gastonia.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Rita Bernstein Weisler

Rita Bernstein Weisler, 74, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) at her home.
