Louise Peeler Young

Louise Peeler Young, 86, Salisbury, died Saturday (Dec. 29, 2001) at Middleburg, Fla., after a period of declining health.

Born March 8, 1915, in Rowan County, Mrs. Young was a daughter of the late Claude Davis and Mary Rose Briggs Peeler. She was educated in the Rowan County schools.

A lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Ruth Sigmon Circle, and the Keenage Club, she was also a long-time Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include husband Jacob Gray Young, Middleburg, Fla.; son Harold Ray Young,Middleburg, Fla.; brother Leo Peeler, Harrisburg; sisters Elizabeth McKinney, Salisbury, and Christine Miller, Charlotte; and four grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday,SalemLutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carroll Robinson, former pastor. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the church parlor. At other times the family will be at the home of Ed Bogle.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

Willie Clyde Barber

EAST SPENCER — Willie Clyde Barber, 90, 1008 Hunt Lane, died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2001) in Cleveland at the home of a sister. He was seriously ill for several days.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Mary Martin Bratton

CONCORD — Mary Lillie Martin Bratton, 97, formerly of Concord, died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2001) at Magnolia Gardens, Spencer.

Born June 19, 1904, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Bratton was a daughter of the late Wilson Creighton and Virginia Pope Martin. She was a homemaker and a member of Kerr Street United Methodist Church.

Her husband,Eli Harrison Bratton, died in 1992.

Survivors include daughters Faye B. Troutman, Gold Hill, and Elsie Grantham, Danville,Va.; brother Charles Elmer Martin, Mooresville; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, Concord, conducted by the Rev. Billy Ervin. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 12:30-1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Pauline Crisco

KANNAPOLIS — Pauline Trexler Crisco, 90, Big Elm Nursing Center, formerly of 2700 Woodsdale St., died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Annie Furches Grant

MOCKSVILLE — Annie Lois Furches Grant, Salisbury Street, died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2001) at her home.

Born in Davie County, Mrs. Grant was a daughter of the late John David and Cornelia Judson James Furches. She retired after 30 years from Energy United.

A member of First United Methodist Church, she helped reorganize Davie County Hospital Auxiliary and served as president for many years. She was also a member of Mocksville Women’s Club and Garden Club.

Her husband, A.T. Grant Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Helen G. Jordan, Mocksville; sisters Sarah L. Parker and Vashti Sugg, both of Greensboro, and Julia James, Fredericksburg, Va.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Eaton Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ken Furches and the Rev. Charles Turner. Burial, Rose Cemetery.

Visitation: At the funeral home after the service.

Richard M. Hale

Richard Morrison Hale, 87, Salisbury, died Monday (Dec. 31, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Mary Hillman

KANNAPOLIS — Mary Elizabeth Honeycutt Morgan Hillman, 73, 2704 Alexander St., died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2001) at her home.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

 

Mae Holland

Lelia Mae Jackson Hosch Holland, 62, 623 Linn Lane, died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after two days of serious illness.

Arnold Ray Lesley

Arnold Ray Lesley, 66, 6160 Faith Road, died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 1, 1935, in Rowan County, Mr. Lesley was a son of the late Rev. Samuel John Lesley and Ruby Bogle Lesley. He attended the Rowan County schools and graduated from Stanly County schools. He attended Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Davidson County Community College.

The owner of Lesley Construction and Realty Co., he was employed as a construction consultant with Select Holmes. He was a past president of Rowan County Home Builders Association, a former member of the Building Code Committee of North Carolina, and a past director of Salisbury-Rowan Merchants Association and Chamber of Commerce.

A member of Southside Baptist Church, he was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He also worked with and coached youth sports and was former president of Rowan County Youth Football League.

Survivors include wife Peggy Black Lesley, whom he married March 11, 1953; son Timothy Ray Lesley, Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughter Dana Lesley-Draper, Chattanooga,Tenn.; foster children Brenda Story and Tancy Tomkinson, both of Salisbury, and Steven DeHart, Thomasville; brother Barry Lesley, Charlotte; and six grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Southside Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ricky Brown. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home.

Bear Isaac Miller

ROCKWELL — Cpl. Bear Isaac Miller, 22, 5506 Phaniels Church Road, died Saturday (Dec. 29, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.

Born Aug. 28, 1979, in Albemarle, Cpl. Miller was a son of Charles Miller, Albemarle, and the late Jennifer Lynn Miller. A Baptist, he was on active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed at Twenty-nine Palms, Calif.

Survivors include wife Debbie Hall Miller; son Beau Allan Miller, of the home; sisters Ashley Edens, Moncks Corner, S.C., and Jessica Lynn Miller, Cumming, Ga.; and grandfather Bruce Miller, Albemarle.

Services: Graveside, 1 p.m. Thursday, National Cemetery at Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury.

Visitation: 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove.

Rita R. Nickerson

MOCKSVILLE — Rita Louise Rivoire Nickerson, 67, Mocksville, died Saturday (Dec. 29, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after a brief illness.

Born Dec. 28, 1934, in Hartford, Conn., Mrs. Nickerson was a daughter of the late Robert and Catherine Shearer Rivoire.

She was a member and printer for First Church of Christ, Wethersfield,Conn. She was also a personnel administrator for Etna Casualty Insurance Co.

Survivors include husband,Floyd H. Nickerson; daughter Tammy Mumford, Mocksville; brother Robert Rivoire, Chicago; sisters Catherine Noble, Wethersfield, Conn., Beverly Reed, New Hampshire, Lorraine Kwoka, Florida, and Germaine Cable, Colorado; and one granddaughter.

The body will be cremated and a memorial service held at a later date at First Church of Christ, Wethersfield, Conn. The Rev. Van Hall will officiate.

Eaton Funeral Home is in charge.

Bessie B. Pease

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Bessie Bell Blackwood Pease, 89, Alexandria, Va., died Friday (Dec. 28, 2001) at Burke Healthcare Center, Burke.

Born April 7, 1912, in Cooleemee, N.C., Mrs. Pease was a daughter of the late Carl F. and Bell Blackwood. She worked in a cotton mill until she moved to Alexandria in the early 1950s.

Her husband, Melvin A. Pease, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Earlene N. Deadmon, Irmo, S.C.; sons James C. Nichols, Salisbury, N.C., Jackie L. Nichols, Woodbridge, Va., David L. Nichols, Cooleemee, N.C., and Samuel G. Nichols, Advance, N.C.; half sisters Ethel Messick, Woodleaf,N.C., Ila Mae Lineberry, Boonville, N.C., and Lois Justice, Pensacola, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be private.

Emma Howard Poplin

OAKBORO — Emma Jane Howard Poplin, 94, 1431 Swift Road, sister of Ona Baucom, Kannapolis, died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church. Burial, Oakboro Cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home on Swift Road.

 

‘Frank’ Wagoner

James Franklin “Frank” Wagoner, 75, Salisbury, died Saturday (Dec. 29, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Flossie W. Warner

LEXINGTON — Flossie Weaver Warner, 91, formerly of Tall Pines Road, died Friday (Dec. 28, 2001) at Wesleyan Arms, High Point, after a period of declining health.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Davidson Funeral Home chapel. Burial, FloralGarden Park, High Point.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
