‘Cricket’ Bradshaw

KANNAPOLIS — Texie Mano “Cricket” Crouch Bradshaw, 74, Deal Care Inn, Mooresville, formerly of 224 Cabarrus Arms Drive, died Saturday (Dec. 22, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after several years of declining health.

Born June 5, 1927, in Alexander County, Mrs. Bradshaw was a daughter of the late Allie Elijah and Mary Ella Murphy Crouch.

Educated in the Alexander County schools, she was a homemaker and member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Burns Bradshaw, and a son, Carl Curtis Bradshaw.

Survivors include sons Michael Wayne Bradshaw, Summerville, S.C., and Randy Lynn Bradshaw, Kannapolis; sisters Willie Pauline “Bill” Stikeleather, Stony Point, and Thethile “Deat” Watts Davis, China Grove; and two grandchildren.

Services: 8 tonight, Linn- Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, conducted by the Rev. David Myers and the Rev. Coy Privette. Private graveside service, 11 a.m. Wednesday, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Rodney W. Canup

OAKBORO — Rodney Warren Canup, 50, 15564 Pecan Grove Road, died Sunday (Dec. 23, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. Burial, Red Cross Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 1-2 today at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

 

James ‘Jim’ Duke

ALBEMARLE — James Claude “Jim” Duke, 61, 642 N. Seventh St., died Saturday (Dec. 22, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

Born Oct. 3, 1940, in Albemarle, Mr. Duke was a son of the late Thelma Duke Forrest and James Claude Duke. He was a retired restaurant owner and operator.

He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church and the church choir.

Survivors include wife Nancy Ann Knopf Duke; sister Linda Francis Fitzgerald, Albemarle; stepsisters Penny Howell, Sandy Thompson and Judy McCrimmon, all of Concord; stepsons Raymond and Timothy Smith, both of Salisbury; stepdaughters Deborah Morton and Jan Snider, both of Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel conducted by the Rev. Howard Benoy and the Rev. Jessie Dennis. Burial, Norview Gardens, Norwood.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the 642 N. Seventh St. home.

 

Johnny D. Long

KANNAPOLIS — Johnny Delane Long, 55, Kannapolis, died Saturday (Dec. 22, 2001) at his home following a period of declining health.

Born June 30, 1946, in Lancaster County, S.C., Mr. Long was a son of the late John Henry and Marie Black Long.

He moved from Charlotte to Kannapolis and worked at Fieldcrest Cannon Plant 1 before illness left him disabled. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include wife Rosemary Owens Long; son Johnny D. Long Jr., Matthews; stepson Steve Kacenski, Windam, Ohio; daughters Ashely Long, Minnesota, and Amy Eller, Charlotte; stepdaughters Shelia Riffle and Kimberly Hager, both of Garrettsville, Ohio; brothers Michael and Terry Long, both of Monroe; sisters Kay Belk, Monroe, and Carolyn Kanipe, Charlotte; and eight grandchildren.

Services: Memorial service, 4 p.m. Wednesday, Clermont Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Clayton C. Palmer Jr., pastor. Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

Visitation: 3-3:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Mary Jackson Lowery

Mary Frances “Big Mama”Jackson Lowery, 75, 1520 Maxwell St., died Sunday (Dec. 23, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health several years and seriously ill several days.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Woodrow Miller

CHINA GROVE — Woodrow Miller, 89, China Grove, died Sunday (Dec. 23, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Oct. 6, 1912, in Rowan County, Mr. Miller was a son of the late John and Fannie Josey Miller.

Educated in the Rowan County Schools, he retired after 45 years in the finishing department at Cannon Mills. He was a member of Organ Lutheran Church.

His wife, Edith Ritchie Miller, died July 24, 1999.

Survivors include son Tony Miller, Gaffney, S.C.; daughter Patsy Miller, Belmont; brother Lee Miller, Salisbury; and a granddaughter.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Organ Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. John E. Pless, pastor. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.

Memorials: Organ Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, 1515 Organ Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

 

Thomas D. Moore

Thomas Donald Moore, 72, 209 Ackert Ave., died Sunday (Dec. 23, 2001) at his home.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Lamon Wilson Sales

MOCKSVILLE — Lamon Wilson Sales, 57, Mocksville, died at his home Saturday (Dec. 22, 2001) following a period of declining health.

Born in Yadkin County, Mr. Sales was a son of the late Ed and Luna Gadberry Sales.

His wife, Ruth Faye Sales, died in 1996.

Survivors include sons Lamon W. Sides Jr. and Rocky DeWalt, both of Mocksville; daughter Lisa Smoot, Mocksville; sisters Irene Marshall, Winston-Salem, Esther Gadberry, Advance, Helen Lewis, Mamie Watkins, Linda Sales and Caldonia Evans, all of Mocksville; and three grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Graham Funeral Home chapel conducted by Charlene Lewis and Elizabeth Mock.

Visitation: Noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

Corris Virgil Simmons

KANNAPOLIS — Corris Virgil Simmons, 74, 2219 Moose Road, died Saturday (Dec. 22, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville, after a serious illness of six weeks.

Born Sept. 12, 1927, in Madison County, Ga., Mr. Simmons was a son of the late Mary Smith and James Hozie Simmons.

A veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, he had lived in Kannapolis since 1934 and worked as a supervisor in the yarn and dye department of Cannon Mills Plant 1. He retired from the company after 50 years.

Mr. Simmons was a former scoutmaster at the former Bethany Lutheran Church and was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church.

Survivors include wife Beulah Pethel Simmons; son James Corris Simmons, Lexington; daughter Charlene Horne, Salisbury; brother Curtis R. Simmons, Concord; sister Lois S. Jackson, Concord; and five grandsons.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Larry Bost. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials: New Hope Lutheran Church, 1615 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083; or American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Charlotte, NC 28202.

 

Irene Eagle Webb

The funeral will be Thursday for Irene Eagle Webb, 81, Salisbury, who died Saturday (Dec. 22, 2001) at Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation of Rowan. She had been in declining health for seven months.

Born Jan. 11, 1920, in Rowan County, Mrs. Webb was a daughter of the late Grover Victor and Mary Poole Eagle.

Educated in Salisbury city schools, she graduated from Boyden High School in 1936 and worked for Cannon Mills Plant 7 for 43 years, before retiring in 1982.

Mrs. Webb was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the Women’s Sunday School Class and WELCA at the church.

Her husband, Thomas Harold Webb, died Oct. 3, 1989.

Survivors include son Thomas M. “Tom” Webb, Cooleemee; and sisters Lucille E. Baker, Salisbury, Pearl E. Campbell, Granite Quarry, and Frances E. Woodford, Stone Mountain, Ga.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Messiah Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Don R. Safrit, interim minister, and the Rev. Jerry Hollar. The body will lie in state from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Summersett Funeral Home, and 1-1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of Tom Webb, Cooleemee.
