Ricky C. Blackwelder
CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Saturday for Ricky Cecil Blackwelder, 39, China Grove, who died Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001) at his home. He had been ill since July.
Born May 13, 1962, in Rowan County, Mr. Blackwelder was a son of the late Robert Clayton and Louise Clement Blackwelder. He was educated in the Rowan County schools. He was a Baptist and a machine operator for Miller Enterprises, Mount Ulla.
Survivors include wife Ruby Lee Clark Blackwelder, whom he married Aug. 25, 1999; son Darrell Wayne Blackwelder, of the home; daughters Elaina Marie Haverstick, Broadbrook, Conn., and Ashley Mae Turner, Salisbury; brothers Johnny Lee Blackwelder, Knoxville, Tenn., and Billy Wayne and Jody Wayne Blackwelder, both of Salisbury; and sisters Pame B. Miller, Mount Ulla, and Ann B. Shupe and Deborah B. Graham, both of Salisbury.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Community Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Chris O’Guin. The body will be cremated.
Visitation: None. The family will be at the home.

Ken— P. Doyle II
GRANITE QUARRY — Kennedy “Ken” Pinkney Doyle II, 77, Granite Quarry, died Thursday (Dec. 20, 2001) at his home.
Born Aug. 17, 1924, in Timmonsville, S.C., Mr. Doyle , a son of the late Kennedy Pinkney and Ailene Shipman Doyle, was educated in the Rowan County schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was affiliated with the CIA. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 448, where he held all offices in the post.
Mr. Doyle retired as a manager of Kenny Shoe Store and from Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance Co., where he was top salesman.
A member of Christiana Lutheran Church, he was in the Men’s Sunday School Class, was treasurer for many years and was a former treasurer of the Educational Building Fund. Past chairman of the church council, he held various council positions.
Formerly, he was a volunteer fireman with the Granite Quarry Volunteer Fire Department, an alderman and mayor pro tem. He was co-founder of Civic Park and a member of the Historical Committee in Granite Quarry.
His wife of 53 years, Grace Lyerly Doyle, died May 4, 2000. A son, Kennedy “Kippy” P. Doyle III, died in 1953.
Survivors include daughters Matilda D. Eddy, Clemmons, LaVaughn D. Beaver, Salisbury, Kate D. Beretsky, Granite Quarry, and Gwen D. Saunders, Yadkinville; brothers Eston Doyle, Salisbury, and Jerry Doyle, Umatilla, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Christiana Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl Haynes. Burial, church cemetery.

Mildred A. Medley
CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Saturday for Mildred Axsom Medley, 83, 57 Central Ave., who died Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001) at her home.
Born July 15, 1918, in Surry County, Mrs. Medley, a daughter of the late Neal and Carrie Childress Axsom, was educated in the Surry County schools. She retired after 39 years from China Grove Cotton Mill.
A member of South China Grove Methodist Church, she was chairperson of the communion committee, a member of the United Methodist Women and a former custodian of the church.
Survivors include husband Coy Day Medley; daughter Shirley M. Alexander, Granite Quarry; brothers Enos Axsom, Salisbury, and Robert Axsom, Dobson; sister Bessie Ashburn, China Grove, and Julia Barber, Elkin; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Alice Louise Steele, 51, formerly of Advance, died Tuesday (Dec. 18, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Salisbury after an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late John Q. and Alice Steele.
