OAKBORO — The funeral is today for Colen Furr Austin, 93, 8099 N.C. Hwy. 205, mother of Shelton Austin, Albemarle, died Sunday (Dec. 16, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont.
Services: 2 today, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel, Albemarle. Burial, Mineral Springs Baptist Church cemetery.
At other times the family will be at the home on N.C. Hwy. 205.
Calvin Wylmer Boger
Calvin Wylmer Boger, 55, 89 Wendfield Circle, Newport News, Va., a native of Rowan County, died Friday (Dec. 14, 2001) at his home from an apparent heart attack.
Born Oct. 8, 1946, Mr. Boger was a son of the late James Monroe and Fleta Stout Boger. He was a 1964 graduate of J.C.Price High School and a 1970 graduate of Livingstone College.
He retired as a captain from the U.S. Air Force. He served two tours in Vietnam.
A former member of Soldiers Memorial AMEZion Church, Salisbury, and New Jersey AMEZion Church, Spencer, he was an active member of Emanuel Baptist Church, Newport News, Va.
Survivors include wife Helen Rose Boger; sons Pvt. Calvin Wylmer Jr., Japan, and Hobert Boger, Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters Fleta Boger Krebbs, Burlington, N.J., and Candi Rose Boger, of the home; brothers James M. Boger Jr., Connecticut, and Jerry S. Boger, Salisbury; and sisters M. Adelia Boger, Indiana, and LaVerne B.Goodlett, Salisbury.

Nancy Wesley Boylan
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Nancy Wesley Boylan, North Charleston, mother of Christopher Scott Boylan, Salisbury, N.C., died Saturday (Dec. 15, 2001).

‘Tommy’ Davis
BRANDON, Miss. — Thomas H. “Tommy”Davis, 82, Brandon, died Monday (Dec. 17, 2001) at his home.
Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., Mr. Davis was a resident of the Jackson area for 16 years.
He retired as a salesman from Firestone and was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Davis played high school baseball in North Carolina, winning the championship in 1937. He attended Catawba College, Salisbury,N.C., on a baseball and basketball scholarship, where he was captain of both teams in his senior year and chosen as best athlete.
He continued his baseball career with professional teams Philadelphia A’s and the Atlanta Braves. Selected to seven All-Star teams, he had a lifetime batting average of 318.
Mr. Davis played American Legion ball in Salisbury, N.C., with a batting average of 435. He played right field for the Jackson Senators from 1946-1950, and with the Meridian Millers from 1952-1954.
Survivors include wife Martha Davis; daughter Kathy Staten, Clinton; stepsons Jimmy Ratliff, Hattiesburg, and Paul Ratliff, Florence; stepdaughter Sandra Dickerson,Isola; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, Ridgeland. Burial, Parkway Memorial Cemetery.

Russell A. Fisher
KANNAPOLIS — Russell Alexander Fisher, 57, 320 Windy Rush Road, died Monday (Dec. 17, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after three years of declining health.
Born Oct. 20, 1944, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Fisher was a son of Elizabeth Bell Fisher Talbert, Kannapolis, and the late Howard Russell Fisher.
He owned and operated Menu Man Catering for many years until retiring due to ill health. Also a former manager of Wilco Food Mart, he was a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Concord.
His stepfather, Marion Young Talbert, preceded him in death.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Gail Siniard Fisher; and sister Toni Fisher Hamrick, Atlanta, Ga.
Services: Memorial, 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Concord, conducted by the Rev. Nathan King. Burial at a later date at Carolina Memorial Park.
