Howard R. Atwell

CONCORD — Howard Reece Atwell, 45, 294 Belvedere Drive, died Thursday (Dec. 13, 2001) at University Hospital, Charlotte, after four months of declining health.

Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Saturday, Sharon Baptist Church.

Visitation: 6:30-8 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times, the family will be at the home on Belvedere Drive.

Memorials: Sharon Baptist Church, 2628 Shady Lane, Concord, NC 28027.

 

Donald M. Blackwell

The funeral will be Saturday for Donald M. “Ghetto” Blackwell, 45, 1002 Locke St., who died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Mitchell &Fair Funeral Service chapel, conducted by the Rev. Calvin L. Miller, pastor, East Stonewall AMEZion Church, Charlotte. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 1 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of sister Barbara Blair Blackwell, 420 Lincolnton Road.

Richard L. Burrow

LEXINGTON — RichardLee “Buddy” Burrow, 31, W. Seventh Ave., died Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2001).

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel of Light. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.

Alene B. Crotts

LEXINGTON — The funeral is today for Alene Bowers Crotts, 91, Lexington Health Care, who died Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2001) at the health care center after two years of declining health.

Services: Graveside, 3 today, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1:30-2:30 today, Davidson Funeral Home.

Stella H. Earnhardt

Stella Mae Harris Earnhardt, 78, Salisbury, died Thursday (Dec. 13, 2001) at Brightmoor Nursing Center.

Rosa M. Fetherson

CHARLOTTE —Rosa M. Fetherson, 53, 2205 Canterwood Drive, Apt. 6, a Rowan County native, died Thursday (Dec. 13, 2001) at University Hospital.

Rowan Funeral Service, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Gladys R. Howard

ALBEMARLE — Gladys Elizabeth Russell Howard, 77, 1316Long St., died Thursday (Dec. 13, 2001) at her home.

Services: 11 a.m., Saturday, Grace Baptist Church. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Long Street.

 

‘Sis’ Douglas Lyerly

The funeral will be Saturday for Dorothy “Sis” Douglas Lyerly, 75, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2001) at her home after three months of declining health.

Born Nov. 2, 1926, in Rowan County, Mrs. Lyerly, a daughter of the late Charles Perkins and Martha Anna Combs Douglas, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Laguna Sportswear.

An active member of Cleveland United Methodist Church, she was a member of Satterwhite Sunday School Class, Ladies Fellowship, United Methodist Women and served on various committees of the church.

Her husband, Earl Alexander Lyerly, died Jan. 8, 1976.

Survivors include son Timothy Earl “Tim” Lyerly, Salisbury; daughter Sara Catherine “Cathy” Lingle, Salisbury; brother Tom Douglas, Salisbury; and five grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m., Saturday, Cleveland United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Shirley Jones, interim pastor. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home.At other times, the family will be at the home.

James E. Mathis

GRANITE QUARRY — James E. Mathis, 78, Granite Quarry, died Thursday (Dec. 13, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, is in charge.

 

Chelsea R. VonCanon

The funeral will be Saturday for Chelsea Ray VonCanon, 67, Yadkin Baptist Church Road, who died Thursday (Dec. 13, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 8, 1934, in Rowan County, Mr. VonCanon was a son of the late Gordon Turner and Evelyn Patterson VonCanon. He was a graduate of Spencer High School and King’s Business College, Charlotte. Retired from North Carolina Finishing Co. after 35 years, he operated an income tax service for 40 years.

He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Spencer. A member of Spencer Masonic Lodge 543, he was the master in 1986. He was a former assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 349 at Central United Methodist Church, Spencer, and coached Gray-Y football and basketball.

Mr. VonCanon was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Chapter Dad of DeMolay and was Mason of the Year at Spencer Moose Lodge. He was also a member of Sons of Confederacy, Rowan County Coin Club, Evergreen Bridge Club and was president of Spencer Little League.

Survivors include wife Patricia Brinkley VonCanon; son Thomas Michael VonCanon, Salisbury; daughter Allison Denise VonCanon, San Bernadino, Calif.; and brother Joseph Lee VonCanon, Midland.

Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Saturday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Randy Crowell, pastor, West Corinth Baptist Church. Masonic rites by Spencer Masonic Lodge.

Visitation: None. The family will be at the home on Yadkin Baptist Church Road.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.
