Ruth Abernathy Bush
The funeral will be Friday for Ruth C. Abernathy Bush, 80, Salisbury Lutheran Home, who died Monday (Dec. 10, 2001) at the nursing home.
Born Jan. 30, 1921, in East Spencer, Mrs. Bush was a daughter of the late Ethel Abernathy Barnes. She was educated in the Rowan County schools and graduated from Dunbar High School, East Spencer, and nursing school.
For many years, she worked as a licensed practical nurse at Rowan Regional Medical Center. She was also a secretary at Mitchell &Fair Funeral Service for 20 years.
A member and steward of Southern City AMEZion Church, she was secretary of the board of evangelism. She was a member of the Senior Choir, Spiritual Choir, history committee, parent body, Women’s Home and Overseas Mission Society, and Adult Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Court of
Calanthe.
Her husband, Farries Bush, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons William Simmons, Knightdale, Anthony F. Bush, New York City, and Gerald F. Bush, Salisbury; sister Offa A. Butler, Fairfax, Va.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Southern City Tabernacle AMEZion Church, conducted by the Rev. Rollins Graham. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation: 1 p.m. Friday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of Magdalene Fox, 1403 Wilkesboro Road, Salisbury.

Fula Stevens Cobb
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral is today for Fula Mae Stevens Cobb, 86, Greensboro, formerly of Kannapolis, who died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at Moses Cone Health System.
Born July 12, 1915, in Johnston County, Mrs. Cobb was a daughter of the late Talbert and Nellie Mae Medlin Stevens. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include son Mack Cobb, Greensboro; brothers Max Stevens, Arizona, and Jackie Stevens, Concord; sister Shirley Grass, Kannapolis; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Jane T. Correll
The funeral will be Friday for Jane Trollinger Correll, 80, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born June 21, 1921, in Alamance County, Mrs. Correll was a daughter of the late Boyd and Elizabeth Cooper Trollinger. She was a graduate of Burlington High School and Salisbury Business College.
She was a secretary at the Capital Theater and later worked at Carolina Rubber Hose. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Her husband, Calvert Gordon Correll, died March 31, 1994.
Survivors include son Gordon Correll, Sumter, S.C.; sister Annie Boyd Coleman, Burlington; and one granddaughter.

Carlene H. Crouch
CHINA GROVE — Carlene Hudspeth Crouch, 87, 710 Bostian St., died Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2001) at her home.
Born July 7, 1914, in Iredell County, Mrs. Crouch was a daughter of the late S.G. and Mary Darr Hudspeth. Educated in the Iredell County schools, she was employed as a sewing room inspector at Cannon Mills. She was a member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church.
Her husband, Meridith Crouch, died in 1985.
Survivors include son Ernest Crouch, China Grove; daughter Joyce C. Corriher, China Grove; brothers Albert and John Hudspeth, both of Troutman; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Jeffry Scott DeShong
The funeral is today for Jeffry Scott DeShong, 48, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Dec. 4, 2001) from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Born Dec. 21, 1952, in Oak Park, Ill., Mr. DeShong was a son of James A. and Margaret B. DeShong of Fort Myers, Fla. He received a master’s degree in systems and analysis from the University of Arizona.
Employed at Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury, he worked in office operations. He was a Presbyterian and attended John Calvin Presbyterian Church.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include brother James A. DeShong III, Fort Myers, Fla.; and sister Julie C. Buehler, Gales Ferry, Conn.
Services: Memorial, 3 today, National Cemetery, Salisbury, conducted by a chaplain from Hefner VAMedical Center. The body will be cremated and burial held at Fort Myers, Fla., at a later date.

LEXINGTON — Jack Eggers, 74,Lexington, died Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2001).
Mr.Eggers retired as a truck driver from Food Lion Inc., Salisbury.

Mary C. Fisher
JEFFERSON — Mary C. Fisher, 90, Jefferson, died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at Ashe Living Center.
Mrs. Fisher was born Dec. 12, 1910, in China Grove, to the late Zeb Vance and Mary Vannoy Fisher. She was a graduate of Farm Life High School, China Grove, and attended Catawba College, Salisbury, for two years.
A retired secretary, she was employed with General Electric for 20 years. She was a lifelong member of Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church, Charlotte.
Survivors include sister Rachel Fisher Russell, Jefferson.

CHARLOTTE — The funeral will be Saturday for Elijah Hackett Jr., 59, Charlotte, who died Sunday (Dec. 9, 2001) at Mercy Hospital.
Born May 24, 1942, in Salisbury, Mr. Hackett, a son of the late Elijah Hackett and Helen Devon Hackett Craig, was educated at Dunbar High School, East Spencer.
He was a partner with Pay Less Plumbing Inc. in Charlotte and attended New Zion Baptist Church, Dunn’s Mountain, Salisbury.

The funeral will be Friday for Charles “Chuck” Prevatte, 48, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at Presbyterian
Hospital,Charlotte.
Born Dec. 14, 1952, in Robeson County, Mr. Prevatte was a son of the late Richard Durham and Agnes Currence Prevatte. He was a 1971 graduate of Lumberton High School and in 1975 graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a degree in business.
A Baptist, he was employed in the sale of manufactured housing with Masterpiece Housing in Albemarle. He was a member of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge 657, Salisbury York Rite Bodies, Rowan County Shrine Club and Charlotte Oasis Temple.
Survivors include wife Shelia Arrington Prevatte, whom he married Feb. 1, 1976; son Gregory Durham Prevatte, of the home; daughter Mollie Currence Prevatte, Wilmington; brother Richard Durham Prevatte Jr., Chocowinity; and sister Karen Prevatte McDonald, Fayetteville.

Grace Kelly Snipes
The funeral will be Saturday for Noah David Snipes and Grace Kelly Snipes, infant children of Jonathan Brent and Kelly Ann Shappell Snipes of Salisbury.
Noah David Snipes died shortly after birth on Oct. 17, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Grace Kelly Snipes was born at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, on Oct. 30, 2001. She died at the hospital on Oct. 31, 2001.
In addition to their parents, the infants are survived by a brother, Nicholas Shappell Snipes, Salisbury; maternal grandparents David and Judy Shappell, Salisbury; maternal great-grandfather John Trasatt, Myersville,Pa.; and paternal grandparents Bill and Lynda Snipes, Salisbury.
