Earnest J. Cope

MOCKSVILLE — Earnest Jacob Cope, 79, of Spillman Road, died Friday (Dec. 7, 2001) at Davis Hospital.

He was born in Davie County to the late Jacob Cicero and Lelia Myers Cope.

He was a retired salesperson from Bimco Corporation in Winston-Salem.

A member of Macedonia Moravian Church, he was also affiliated with the Yadkin Valley Baptist Church. He served in the U.S.Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Nola Seats Cope.

Survivors include son Phillip Beauchamp, Advance; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Yadkin Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Craddock officiating.

Visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight at Davie Funeral Service.

Memorials: Yadkin Valley Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1324 Yadkin Valley Road, Advance, NC 27006.

 

Gladys Goodwin

KANNAPOLIS — Gladys Rachel King Goodwin, 70, 600 Walter St., died Friday (Dec. 7, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Sarah Francis Hosch

CLEVELAND — Sarah Francis Campbell Hosch, 77, 3475 Chaneault Road, died Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 2, 1924, in Rowan County, Mrs. Hosch was a daughter of the late Claude Campbell and Fannie Elizabeth Lytle Campbell Morrison. She was a graduate of the Rowan County schools.

A retired employee of Cannon Mills, Mrs. Hosch was a member of Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board, United Presbyterian Women, Senior Choir, Trustee Board and Building Fund Committee. She was also an elder in the church.

Survivors include sons Johnny Bernard Hosch, Norfolk, Va., Roy Lee Hosch, East Point, Ga., Claude Hosch, Oxford, Giles Adair Hosch, Salisbury, and Rodney Campbell Hosch, Ricky Eugene Hosch, Billy Hosch and Robert Lee Hosch Jr., all four of Cleveland; daughters Bernadine Jones, Mattapan, Mass. and Kathleen Amos, Cleveland; sisters Elsie Mae Morrison, Nannie Morrison Bost and Rosa Morrison Chisholm, all of Baltimore, Md.; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Linda Lampkin Parker. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 2:30 Sunday at the church.

Mary Jane Knox, 101

CLEVELAND — Mary Jane Know, 101, of 105 Knox St., died Thursday (Dec. 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 13, 1900, in Rowan County, Mrs. Knox was the daughter of the late Samuel and Aggie Neal. She was a graduate of the Rowan County schools.

She was retired from R.A. Clement High School in Cleveland.

She was a member of Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church and United Presbyterian Women. She was also a mother of the church and involved with West Rowan Nutrition Site.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Knox, in 1992 and her son, William L. Knox, in 1989.

Survivors include sons George H. Knox and John M. Knox, both of Cleveland; daughters Elsie M. Knox, Eldora Rankin and Viola K. Hosch, all of Cleveland, Esther M. Hall, Salisbury, and Janie L. Turman, Durham; 28 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Joe L. Spears. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation: 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home.

Joseph McCommons

ALBEMARLE — Joseph Watson McCommons, 86, 632 N. Third St., died Friday (Dec. 7, 2001) at Stanly Manor Nursing Center.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Stanly Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Bernice T. Patterson

Funeral services will be held Sunday for Bernice Thirdgill Patterson, 73, 1123 Crestview Drive, who died Tuesday (Dec. 4, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 6, 1928, in Salisbury, Mrs. Patterson was a daughter of the late John T. and Mable Saunders Thirdgill. She was a 1945 graduate of J.C. Price High School and received a nursing degree from Good Samaritan School of Nursing in 1948.

She retired as a registered nurse from W.G. “Bill”Hefner VA Medical Center. A member of First Calvary Baptist Church, she was in Missionary Circle 4. She was also a member of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Modern Wives, Jack and Jill Inc. of America, and J.C. Price American Legion Post 107 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include husband William Ereskine Patterson Jr.; son William E. Patterson III, Salisbury; daughters Linda Patterson Pridgen, Salisbury, and Cheryl “Chirl Girl” Patterson, Charlotte.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday, First Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Leamon Brown. Burial, 11 a.m. Monday, National Cemetery, Brenner Avenue, Salisbury.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Reba H. Quarles

SPARTANBURG, S.C. —The funeral will be Sunday for Reba Alice Hargrave Quarles, 71, 16 Britton St., who died Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2001).

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Files Chapel Baptist Church, Lexington, N.C., conducted by the Rev. John Cade and the Rev. Robert Bowman. Burial,Lexington City Cemetery, Lexington, N.C.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of son Lewis Franklin Hargrave, 615 Fairview Drive, Lexington, N.C.
